I am the second owner.  I purchased this M5 from a dealer in January of 2012.  I will negotiate, but keep in mind I don't need to sell it, and therefore I will not entertain low-ball and/or insane offers.

The E60 M5 spanned from 2006 to 2010, so the car looks 'newer' than it is because the body and interior didn't change until 2011.

If you haven't driven an M, you need to!  What an experience.  My previous car was a 2008 M6 Coupe (I sold it on Ebay in 2011).  It was fast, but this car is next-level fast.  Read below...

Other than a scratch on the rear bumper and a small dent in the right rear door (truck kicked-up a rock on the highway this winter)--this car is in awesome shape.
Both the exterior and interior are clean.  It was $96k new, and as far as I know it has every option/amenity.  Highlights include: SMG7 clutchless-manual, satellite radio & wired auxiliary input, heads-up display, rear shades, front ventilated and active 18-way multi-function driver/pass seats, rear heated / split folding seats, Madeira walnut trim, suede headliners, rear sunshades, and-on-and-on-and-on...

Not only is it a BMW, it's an "M".  Not only is it an "M", it's a Dinan-upgraded "M", making it a beast.

Here are the fully-warrantied Dinan upgrades I had installed in 2012: Black-tipped Free-Flow Exhaust ($3000), High-Flow Cold Air Intakes ($2300), Stage 3 Performance Engine Software (redline to 8400rpm, power band enhancement, governor removed, etc... $1100), Dinan brake and accelerator pedals ($350), and installation of a Carbon Fiber Strut Tower Brace ($600).  These components added 35HP and 25lbs of torque, making it come-in around 535HP and 425 pounds of torque.

I replaced the tires last summer ($2000); they have ~5,000 miles of wear.  The car received its 50,000 mile service last month ($460).

I did my research-- without the Dinan upgrades this car sells at dealerships for around $32,000.  Do the math, see if it works for you, then come and see the car.  If you're serious, we'll go for a drive!

Someone's willing to pay $16,000 for a hollow, non-working BMW i8

Tue, Aug 26 2014

There is an unusual BMW i8 for sale on eBay right now. Unlike your average – and by that we mean "working" – i8, this one pretty much just sits there, looking pretty. See, the i8 in question is just a promotional body shell. It's fullsize and being sold (we think) by a legit BMW dealer (Laurel BMW of Westmont), so it's got strong ties to the real thing, but there's nothing inside. In fact, you can't open the doors or windows and the wheels don't move, unless you count the tiny rolling castors that are a part of the prop. There is no fancy plug-in hybrid powertrain – no powertrain of any sort, in fact – and it was "professionally crafted just for BMW dealers." The headlights do turn on, though, so that's something. What's most impressive, though, is that there are 50 bids for this non-working BMW. In fact, the bidding has climbed up to $16,000. For a car that can't fulfill its mission as a car, that's pretty impressive. Oh, and those bids have not yet hit the reserve price, so the dealer is obviously hoping it can get more money for this hollow BMW. The official base MSRP for a working i8 is $135,700. The first i8 delivered in the US, a special edition for Pebble Beach, just sold for $825,000.

Next BMW M3 sedan to be plug-in hybrid?

Mon, Aug 17 2015

BMW has a lot in mind for the next-generation 3 Series and 4 Series cars, and we're hearing about it now even though they're not expected for another three or four years. The sedan is expected to be lighter, wider, with a longer wheelbase and a lower center of gravity. Rumored tech updates include the water injection system debuted in production on the BMW 1 Series, and the 4 Series convertible might go back to a fabric top. Now The Detroit Bureau reports BMW insiders have revealed that the next M3 will get a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. We've heard about plug-in variants in the mix for the G20 3 Series using a small displacement four-cylinder, but not on the M3 and possibly M4. The goal is familiar, according to the "several senior company officials:" to improve the performance while reducing the emissions footprint. Apparently, the power unit being worked on uses a "similar engine" to the 425-horsepower, 3.0-liter inline six employed at the moment, with power sent to the rear wheels. Electric assistance would come from a KERS-like unit that would also - and only - send power to the rear wheels. Torque is said to go up at least 73 pound-feet from the 406 lb-ft available currently, and all-electric range might be as much as 20 miles. Plenty of carbon fiber will help offset the weight of the lithium-ion batteries. Despite company obfuscations, we know BMW is working on a hybrid powertrain for a vehicle rumored to be called either i5 or i7, and would use one or two electric motors to drive the front wheels while the traditional ICE drives the rear wheels. This potential M3 and M4 powertrain would be an offshoot of that engineering. Automobile speculates there will be electric turbochargers and a horsepower number around 500. Related Video:

BMW readying competition pack for M5, M6

Thu, 25 Apr 2013

According to Car and Driver, citing a report in BMW Blog, BMW will be offering performance upgrades - likely called the Competition package - for its M5 and M6 models (including the convertible and Gran Coupe versions of the M6). Both cars will continue to be offered with the normal 560-horsepower, 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engines, but this new performance pack is expected to add an additional 15 hp to the mix.
No need to worry, however - the upgrades won't simply be limited to a small boost in power. These M5 and M6 models will reportedly get new wheels, black exhaust tips, a more direct steering ratio and reworked suspension geometry which will provide better overall handling. Top speed is said to remain governed at 190 miles per hour, but that these extra improvements will shave one-tenth of a second off the cars' 0-60 times.
No pricing information has been revealed as of this writing, though we imagine it'll likely come at a substantial cost over the current starting prices of the M5 and M6 ($90,200 and $108,350, respectively).
