'02 with 140k, Black on black with wood trim.

Interior: 9.5/10
Barely any wear, no rips or cracks, super comfortable leather, has the extended leather option in great condition.

Exterior: 7.5/10
Great looking black paint from 10 feet away, but closer inspection shows a few small rock chips on the hood. Still looks better than 140k miles! The tint is perfect, and the 19" wheels seem to fit the car very nicely. 275mm rubber all the way around.

The Good:
Mechanically very solid, quiet on startup, no SES lights or anything to be concerned about. I had some when I bought the car, but they all were fixed by simply going back to stock intakes from the Dinan intakes I previous had. Clutch grabs like new. Steering and suspension is responsive, comfortable, no rattles, squeaks, or vibrations. Starts up in the freezing cold as quickly and smoothly as when it's 80 degrees outside. Just completely trouble-free beast. I love it!

Needs:
I personally would like the front bumper replaced - the previous owner installed a crack into the lower passenger side, and there are plenty of rock chips.
Currently needs trunk lid replaced or repaired due to a rust spot.
A fellow forum member made sure the computer was working, I'm just not getting video displayed, so I need to clean off some contacts and trouble shoot. The Nav DVD player doesn't spool, so perhaps a good excuse to upgrade to the Mk IV!

Photos and video are here: Photos and Videos Folder

Also have a full set of factory wheels with Blizzaks already mounted, which have at least two winters left on them if not abused. The wheels will need refinishing if you're going for factory perfect, but they're straight! Will include for +$800.  These are not included in the buy it now price!  Get in touch with me to discuss their inclusion in the deal.

If you're reading this, you already know what the car is, so I don't need to try to talk you into buying it. These are rare, and getting more rare. Many car magazines to this day considering this the greatest sports sedan of all time. This car lapped the Top Gear test track 2 seconds faster than a Lamborghini Murceilago. This is the real deal. Email me with serious inquiries only! Low ball offers will be ignored, reasonable offers will be considered.

Thanks for looking, and I can't wait to meet the enthusiast who will be the next owner of this M5!

2015 BMW Alpina B6 Gran Coupe challenges the M6 in New York

Wed, 16 Apr 2014

Despite being a well-respected outfit for decades, Alpina remains something of a mystery to many stateside BMW fans. In Europe, Alpina has established itself as a first-rate source for breathed-upon high-performance Bimmers, and it's looking to continue picking up traction on our shores. The US has received a handful of Alpina models through BMW factory channels, namely the 7-Series-based B7, and now we're getting another fast four-door with the debut of the BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe at today's 2014 New York Auto Show.
The B6 Gran Coupe stands as an interesting sibling to the factory's M6 Grand Coupe. Both are propelled by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, but the tunes are quite different. The Alpina produces 540 horsepower and 540 pound-feet of torque, which is 20 hp less than the M6, but with 40 lb-ft more torque. An eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive mean that the B6 is about half a second quicker to 60 miles per hour than BMW's own creation. Plus, the B6 has an unrestricted top speed of 198 mph, making it one seriously rapid 6 Series Gran Coupe.
The sport sedan also wears other Alpina goodies like 20-inch versions of the brand's 21-spoke wheels and exclusive color options. The B6 Gran Coupe goes for $118,225 (including destination), and will be available through BMW dealers immediately after the auto show ends. More info about the B6 is in the release below.

Thermal imagery of BMW M4 DTM pit stop is red hot

Wed, 28 May 2014

A pit stop is a pit stop, right? The race car pulls in, the crew changes the tires, pumps in some fuel, maybe swaps out a busted body panel or squeegees the windshield, and off it goes for another heat. Only pit stops have become the focus of news lately for a number of reasons, whether it's because of mishaps (like the ones that prompted F1 to ban mid-race refueling), new time records (due largely to said ban) or interesting new ways to film the fast-paced action.
A few weeks ago we brought you footage of an IndyCar pit stop filmed from multiple angles courtesy of Google Glass. Now BMW has released a brief clip of one of its M4 DTM racers coming in for fresh rubber, all filmed by infrared camera. Its the kind of technology BMW uses to help optimize its German touring cars for competition, and now the Bavarian outfit has released some footage for fans to enjoy.
The resulting thermal imagery gives you an idea of how hot the car runs (and where the heat is emanating from), how warm they get the fresh rubber before they get it onto the car, and what kind of temperatures the pit crew is subjected to. Look closely enough in the 25-second video below and you'll even see the heat sputtering out of the exhaust pipes as the M4 downshifts into its pit box. (Just don't try adjusting your speakers, the clip is without audio.)

BMW CS reinterpretation proves retro can be sexy [w/video]

Fri, 28 Mar 2014

Designer David Obendorfer doesn't work for BMW, but perhaps the German automaker should give him a call. His CS Vintage Concept shows a singular ability to understand the brand's classic style and reinterpret it for today. He isn't some amateur, either. Obendorfer has an industrial design degree and has been penning the interiors and exteriors of yachts from the Officina Italiana Design for five years, which counts luxury shipbuilders like Riva and Sanlorenzo among its clients. His website shows a real passion and knack for modernizing '60s and '70s European cars, too.
Obendorfer prefers to reimagine classic automotive styles. "Retro cars are not copies of their predecessors or renovated specimens, rather they are carefully studied reconsiderations, strongly rooted in contemporary style," he tells Autoblog. For the CS Vintage Concept, he worked to update the looks of the seminal BMW 2000CS and its E9 chassis while placing them on a modern platform. Obendorfer's inspiration comes from his belief that the later CS models' design is partially responsible for defining BMW styling, with its shark-nose front and four round headlights.
The CS Vintage Concept's shape starts with a jutting hood and a quartet of LED headlights, but the whole design really comes together in profile. The Hofmeister Kink at the rear pillar with the BMW Roundel is a nice nod to the originals, yet the proportions still find the perfect fusion of classic and modern. The interior is minimalist, with a vast expanse of wood for the dashboard at first glance, but the latter opens to expose the car's infotainment system.
