2000 Bmw M5 Dinan Upgrades / Rare / Carbon Black / Fast Fast Fast!!! /// on 2040-cars
Fayetteville, Arkansas, United States
Often called the best BMW ever made. An April 2000 Carbon Black BMW M5. If you don’t know about this car, Motor Trend called it “the greatest super-sedan of all time.” Edmunds described it as having “all the best a car can offer,” and said “there isn’t a four-door car on earth that can touch it.” I have owned it for about two years and have treated as if I would keep it forever. I’m selling it because I want to buy a truck to fish and kayak with. (I couldn’t ever bring myself to put a roof rack on the top of this beast.) I have replaced everything that needed it, and many things that didn’t. Please see below for a detailed list, but I put in a brand new clutch, rotors, brakes, front upper control arms, front bumper, and Z3M short shifter, and I repainted the front hood . My Buy-It-Now price takes this and the Dinan upgrades into account. You could buy one for 15,000, but then you’ll likely have to put in a clutch, brakes, and all the other things that the previous owner put off. With this, you won’t have to do a thing. The clutch feels amazing and the brakes are spectacular. Famous for being the ultimate "wolf in sheep's clothing,” a 1999-2001 M5 is a highly sought after car. It is extremely fast, but still very drivable and comfortable. This V-8 will go for more than 200,000 miles, I have no doubt. I wouldn’t have spent the money on the brakes, rotors, hood, bumper, etc if I were not completely confident in the engine. Here are a few things that I did in October. All the following have less than 2000 miles on them: • New OEM clutch from Bavarian Auto • Refinished flywheel • New Front upper control arms from Bavarian Auto • New OEM rotors from Bavarian Auto • New Padgen Red Brake pads from Bavarian Auto • Brand-new OEM front bumper installed a few months ago at Northwest Arkansas BMW. Wanted to freshen it up. • New Tires: German Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires--at least 90% wear remaining. These are widely accepted as some of the best tires available for this car. They feel amazing. • Side, front, and curtain airbag restraint system (extremely safe) I just installed a Z3M short shifter. This shortened the shift pulls a lot and reduced free play a lot in the shifter. It was just installed, so it is a bit tight still but will wear in a bit with time. However, if you don’t like the short shifter, it is very easy to take back to stock. Don’t spend 35,000 on a new so-called “sports” car. This will absolutely outperform them for a fraction of the price. It will out-accelerate, out-brake, and out-corner almost any car you come across. This is truly a super car hiding in 5-series body. And unless you know what you’re looking at, you would never guess what is lurking under its beautiful hood. Please listen to my video to hear how tight and powerful the engine is in my video. It runs like a dream. No Vanos noise. No timing chain chatter. It will still pull very hard all the way in 5th gear, yet I always get 25 miles to the gallon on the highway. Not bad for a massive 400+ horsepower car. I bought this car about two years ago and have enjoyed it immensely. It spent most of its life in California, and it has no signs of rust. I never drive it in the rain, and it is always garaged. It has a clean title. There is some wear on the leather, which I’ve tried to document. I could have re-dyed it, but in my opinion that is a little dishonest. If I were keeping it, the wear would not bother me. When I’m in the car, I’m sitting on it. :) The rear bumper is fading a bit. Again, it didn’t bother me enough to have it painted. There is also some road rash on the wheels. Again, nothing major and this didn’t bother me enough to buy new wheels. However, you can find the original wheels for about $900. I want to be very honest and forthcoming about any imperfections. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Please let me know if you have any questions, and happy bidding!
Also, here are some specifications: • Dinan S2 Software, Dinan Exhaust, 155-mph speed limiter removed by Dinan • 400+ horsepower, 5.0-liter all-aluminum DOHC V-8 395 pound-feet of torque, 11.0:1 compression ratio, 7000-rpm redline, six-speed manual gearbox, and 18-inch wheels • 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds, quarter mile in 13.2 seconds at 107.4 mph • Top speed approximately 180 mph; no limiter • "Sport" button that, when activated, livens up the rate of throttle tip-in for seriously quick response • eight separate throttle butterflies that are controlled electronically upgraded cooling system • semi-dry-sump, g-sensitive lubrication system • free-flowing DINAN-upgraded dual exhaust system • six-speed gearbox (matched with 3.15:1 rear axle gearing) • unique front fascia with black cross-hatched grille work, round fog lamps, and headlight washer nozzles • Park Distance Control beeping warning system • M5-specific ultra-supportive bucket seats • a programmable interior ventilation system to cool the cabin when you're away • computerized navigation system—works perfectly • Amazing M-Audio sound system—AM/FM/cassette radio, 6-disc changer, factory-installed dual subwoofers (This is the best factory sound system I have ever heard, including a brand new Infinity and brand new upgraded Jeep system I’ve heard. It is spectacular.) • onboard tire-pressure monitoring • Dynamic Stability (traction) Control • 16-way heated power seats • Sunroof with tilt function • Angel eyes/Halo headlights • Fold-down rear seats and huge 11.1 cubic foot trunk • RARE black and caramel interior • Alcantara suede headliner in perfect condition (These sell for $1000+ used!) • Tilting passenger side-view mirror for parking assist • Auto-dimming mirrors • Factory-disabled rear airbags (if you have a child seat or young child in the back). Can be turned on. |

2016 BMW 7 Series spied for the first time ever
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Ladies and gentlemen, Bimmerphiles and automotive voyeurs of all stripes: here is your next-generation BMW 7 Series. Captured in photographs for the first time ever while doing a spot of cold-weather testing in Sweden, this newly slim 7er will most likely debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015 and launch in the 2016 model year.
Sources indicate that BMW is targeting a much lighter curb weight for the 7 Series, and will use learnings gained with the i3 and i8 development to add carbon fiber-reinforced plastics in the construction. In return we'd expect the new model - which uses the internal model designation "G11" - to offer improvements in handling, acceleration and fuel economy. As with the current 7 Series lineup, expect the engine range to include turbocharged inline-six engines, one or more V8s and a V12 option.
It's fair to say that, with the car's debut still years down the road, that BMW will work to launch with an impressive suite of in-car technology, too. A completely new version of iDrive shouldn't be ruled out. These shots mark the beginning of a long journey to 2015, and we expect to have loads more information to share in the coming months and years, so stay tuned.
2014 Dinan S1 BMW M5
Thu, 04 Sep 2014The last time the Dinan name graced the pages of Autoblog, Michael Harley was waxing poetic about the S3-R BMW 1M Coupe, a car that still stands in his ranks as one of the best cars he's ever driven. And that wasn't just because it was, you know, amazing. It's because as far as tuners go, Dinan produces some seriously well-executed products. Harley said of the 1M, for example, "It was so fully formed and well-rounded that it felt like BMW itself had made it."
Eager to sample some of these wholly wonderful wares, I cleared a few hours in my Monterey Car Week schedule and booked a date with the S1 M5 you see here - the (current) daily driver of Mr. Steve Dinan, himself. But unlike the S3-R 1M the company tuned previously, the donor car in question here is vastly different and, if I'm honest, not as good. See, I adore the stock 1M in a way words cannot express, but the standard-issue M5... good as it is, there are indeed a few flaws.
But after driving the Dinan S1 M5 around the Monterey Peninsula, I can confirm two things. First, Harley's conclusion that Dinan builds products that feel 100 percent BMW-spec is absolutely true. And second, Steve and the gang haven't just created a tuned M5, they've built a better one.
BMW working with Dainese to put airbags in motorcycle suits [w/video]
Fri, 19 Jul 2013Addressing the safety concerns of its customers, BMW Motorrad is co-developing a rider suit with Dainese to feature something that's much more common in automobiles: airbags.
Starting with Dainese's D-air Protect System, which is made up of inflatable protectors that deploy in 15 milliseconds, the two companies will integrate the technology into a BMW Motorrad brand, one-piece racing suit, the DoubleR RaceAir. Later a different, street-oriented airbag system that can be retrofitted to bikes will be offered to Beemer riders.
The DoubleR RaceAir is expected to be presented at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan in November, after all required crash testing has been completed.
