2000 Bmw E39 M5 Dinan Ac Schnitzer Alpina, Low Miles, No Reserve!!! on 2040-cars
Elizabeth, New Jersey, United States
Up for auction is one of the best driver's cars, and perhaps the best handling 4-door sedan ever made - the E39 BMW M5. Its combination of brute power, luxurious accommodations, and precise handling made it a favorite among car enthusiasts the world over. Its 400+ horsepower engine, mated to a responsive Getrag 6-speed manual make it supercar fast for economy car money.
Here's a detailed description of this particular car. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. You can reach me at (908)247-1055. Engine/Drivetrain The 5.0L V8 engine in this car is simply amazing. It revs insanely fast, and sounds amazing. The intakes are stock, with OEM air filters in good shape. The car does not leak any oil or any other fluid. The cooling system was serviced 2 months ago with new OEM thermostat and coolant flush, as well as O2 sensors. Receipt for all services from independent shop in included. The engine burns no oil, and although has a slight traditional VANOS rattle at idle, there are no leaks in the VANOS system. The car has a Dinan Stage 1 ECU installed. This increases the rev limiter to 7300 rpm, and removes the factory 155 mpg speed limiter. The receipt for the Dinan ECU is included. The "//M" badge on the top of the engine is a bit faded, and the windshield washer cap for the reservoir is missing. The Transmission is a very responsive Getrag 6-speed manual. There are no crunches or grinds in any gear, and engagement is smooth. The driveline is completely smooth and has no vibration while driving at all. The bushings and linkages all feel very tight and in great condition. The car has a factory-installed limited-slip differential that functions beautifully and helps the car handle in quick starts and high-speed bends. Exhaust The Exhaust is stock manifolds into a Dinan catback with polished stainless steel tips, which was over $1800 new, (receipt included). The car sounds absolutely amazing and very exotic. It's whisper quiet while cruising, but very loud when you open the throttle. A great addition to the drivability of the car, and with the addition of the ECU, it produces well in excess of the stock 400 horsepower. If you'd like to know what it sounds like click below for a YouTube video of a similar setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywcrYM1llko Exterior The car's Titanium Silver Metallic exterior is in generally good condition, but it does have a few issues. Previously, the car was backed into while parked and incurred damage to the driver's side front and rear doors, along with the rocker panel. The parts were replaced with OEM replacements and painted and blended with the rest of the car. A receipt from the bodyshop, along with warranty for the work is included. The moldings on the driver's side of the car are from the non-M 5-series, but color-matched to the rest of the trim. There is a small dent on the driver's side rear passenger's door, which can likely be popped out. Doors have no alignment issues. The mirrors were painted flat black to match the exterior trim. The front kidney grilles are aftermarket, and have a few fitment issues, and the hood appears to have some body filler behind the grilles, but it isn't noticeable. There are small cracks and paint chips on the front bumper on the passenger's side, and some scratches on the rear bumper. The rear spoiler is a Genuine Alpina. However, when it was installed, it appears to have some slight damage to the passenger's side bottom, where a metal screw is exposed and there's a small gap in the bodywork. The rear lower valence has been painted in a scratch-proof black bedliner material. The paint can be polished to a very deep shine and no body panels have any alignment issues. The car has no rust on the exterior of the car. Interior The interior is in amazing condition. The seats and door panels are 2-tone Sport trim, with silver Ostrich print trim. There are no rips in the seats, but the driver's seat has a little bit of wear. It can likely be massaged out with a good conditioner to be made 100 percent. It looks great as-is. The car's original trim was brushed aluminum, wrapped in 3M 1080 Brushed Titanium Vinyl. It looks awesome with the color combination and ties the car together. The shifter boot is in good condition, but has a small tear at the top, which isn't noticeable from the driver's side. The carpets are a deep black and are in great shape. The cup holders are in working shape and aren't cracked or broken. In addition, a TEC foldable aluminum cup holder ($95) is installed in the storage compartment behind the ashtray. The trunk panels are in good shape, however the foldable top panel has some fabric missing from the top right corner and you can see the wood underneath. In addition, there's a sticker on the right side of the trunk that was unable to remove. No air pump is included, and most of the BMW tools are intact. The car has a power rear sunshade and rear manual window shades, all in great shape and make the car feel much more luxurious. All original owner's manuals are included. Audio/Electronics The car's audio system is the BMW Premium Audio with DSP and Navigation. An upgraded 16:9 Widescreen Navigation display unit is installed from a 2001 BMW X5. It has zero dead pixels and works amazingly. I will include a cassette to AUX adapter. The car's audio system works flawlessly and the subwoofers and tweeters work well to make a strong sound stage. No Navigation CD is included. All electronics on the car work flawlessly. The car's gauge cluster has the common issue of bleeding LCD screen, but a new LCD strip in included for the next owner to install. The headlights on the car are upgraded OEM Self-leveling BMW HID/halo units with 4300K HID Philips bulbs. The car has been upgraded with factory daytime running lights and LED Halos. The fog light bulbs are new. One key is included, but the keyless entry functions on the key do not work. The car locks and unlocks with the driver's door lock, as well as summer open/close functions. Suspension The car has factory suspension, and everything is in great shape. The car has had a recent alignment, and the printout for the measurements and specs will be included in the sale. Climate Control/AC The dual-zone climate control works flawlessly and has no leaks or issues with either heat or air conditioning. The LCD has no bleeding and works like new. Wheels/Tires The Wheels are 19" AC Schnitzer Type IV staggered units. They were originally black and coated in Plastidip Real Aluminum. This is entirely reversible, but I felt it ties the look of the car together. The wheels have some curb rash on them, and the front right wheel has a gouge in the lip. All wheels and tires have been balanced and don't vibrate at any speed. The tires are a matched set of Continental ContiSport Contact 235/40/19 front, and 265/35/19 rear, with more than 50% tread depth. They are very sticky and hold the road quite well without losing grip on high-G turns. Brakes The rotors on this car are slotted rotors front and rear, with lots of life left on the front and rear pads. However, the emergency brake shoes are worn and render the emergency brake useless. They would need to be changed to use the emergency brake properly. The car still stays in place if it is left in gear. Drivability This car will make you fall in love with German cars. It has neck-snapping acceleration from a stop, and sounds as exotic as any Ferrari, while having room for 5 with luggage. It's the perfect daily driver or weekend mountain carver. It truly is the Ultimate Driving machine. Vehicle History The car was garaged for the last few years and driven very sparingly. The car has 84,105 miles. Did BMW really win the luxury car sales race?
Sun, Feb 14 2016As anyone who follows our monthly By The Numbers series already knows, the luxury car sales race in the United States was close all of last year as BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz seesawed up and down for sales supremacy. At the end of the year, it was BMW on top of the standings with 346,023 total sales. Or was it? According to data released by Polk, comparing the actual number of vehicles registered between the three top luxury players in the US paints a slightly different picture. Polk's data suggests that only 335,259 BMWs were registered in 2015, compared to 340,392 Lexus models. Why the disparity? It's all a matter of timing. Actual end consumers buy new cars, in almost all cases, from a franchised dealer. BMW delivered 346,023 vehicles in 2015, but only 335,259 of them were registered by their new owners. Presumably, those 11,000 BMWs did (or will) end up registered in the driveways of consumers, but they hadn't before January 1, 2016. Lexus General Manager Jeff Bracken wrote in an email to Automotive News, "Luxury sales leadership as measured by vehicle registrations is important to Lexus as it represents actual consumers engaging directly with our dealers." Of course, it goes without saying that we'll be paying keen attention to the 2016 luxury car sales race as it unfolds. If it's anything like it was in 2015, it'll come down to the wire, and even then may not be entirely clear. 2015 BMW X4 xDrive28i
Tue, Jan 6 2015When BMW unveiled the X6 back in 2008, critical reviews were mixed, to say the least. By all accounts, the heavyweight crossover actually drove quite well, but the idea of a BMW X5 that traded a lot of functionality for polarizing looks and a higher price tag seemed like a tough sell. Then it went on sale and quickly proved to be a cash cow. Today, the German brand has moved over a quarter million of the things worldwide. Unsurprisingly, this success has moved BMW to double down on its so-called Sport Activity Coupe by adding a smaller variant. The all-new X4, while not a bad steer in and of itself, makes even less sense than its big brother, particularly when viewed alongside BMW's other offerings. Like the X6 and X5, the X4 borrows heavily from another of the brand's utility vehicles, in this case, the less-costly X3. Also like the X6, this new crossover-coupe's styling is sure to cause a schism among critics and consumers alike. You can probably guess where the majority of the Autoblog camp falls. To be totally frank, the exterior of the X4 is simply ghastly to this writer, particularly in this tester's eye-catching paint. Admittedly – and much like the X6 – there's not much objectionable from the A-pillar forward, where the X4 has a lot in common with the X3. It's only once moving towards the rear that things well and truly go wrong. There's just so much visual mass, and it's been made worse by the way BMW designers wussed out. Bear with me. Compare the profile of the X6 with the X4, and pay particular attention to the roofline on the bigger vehicle. The angle of the roofline is noticeably more dramatic on the X6, which comes at the expense of second-row headroom (an oft-criticized area for the big boy). For the X4, designers tried to have their cake and eat it too, maintaining second-row headroom but with a coupe-like profile. The result is an X4 that is bulbous and uncouth from the B-pillar back, more hunchbacked Gran Turismo than svelte Gran Coupe. BMW might have been better served if its exterior work had followed the stylings of the cabin, which is more or less a clone of what's on offer in the X3. Material quality is still great, with soft-touch plastics and available cool-to-the-touch brushed aluminum throughout. I really dug the Ivory White Nevada leather and contrast red stitching on this test vehicle, as it provided an eye-pleasing departure from the sea of blacks, grays and tans so typical of the luxury crossover market.
Automakers want to stop the EPA's fuel economy rules change, and why that's a shortsighted move
Tue, Dec 6 2016With a Trump Administration looming, the EPA moved quickly after the election to propose finalizing future fuel economy rules last week. The auto industry doesn't like that (surprise), and has started making moves to stop the EPA. Ford CEO Mark Fields said he wanted to lobby Trump to lower the standards, and now the Auto Alliance, a manufacturer group, is saying it will join the fight against cleaner cars. The Alliance represents 12 automakers: BMW, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, GM, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Toyota, VW, and Volvo. Gloria Bergquist, a spokesperson for the Alliance, told Automotive News that the "EPA's sudden and controversial move to propose auto regulations eight months early - even after Congress warned agencies about taking such steps while political appointees were packing their bags - calls out for congressional action to pause this rulemaking until a thoughtful policy review can occur." The EPA was going to consider public comments through April 2017, but then said it would move the deadline to the end of December. That means that it can finalize the rules before President Obama leaves office. The director of public affairs for the Consumer Federation of America, Jack Gillis, said on a conference call with reporters last week when the EPA originally announced its decision that it is unlikely that President Trump will be able to roll back these changes. Gillis also said on the same call that any attempt by the automakers to prevent these changes would be history repeating itself. "These are the same companies that fought airbags, and now promoting the fact that every car has multiple airbags," he said. "These are the same companies that fought the crash-test program, and now are promoting the crash-test ratings published by the government. So, it's clear that they're misperceiving the needs of the American consumer." There are more reasons the Allliance's pushback is flawed. Carol Lee Rawn, the transportation program director for Ceres, said on that call that the automotive industry is a global one, and many automakers are moving to global platforms to help them meet strict fuel economy rules around the world.
