1991 BMW M5 always a CA car. Dinan conversion was done at Dinan with approx 33k on the clock. Please I know selling a budget BMW especially a special model brings out the bargain hunters and I understand everyone wanting a deal. What I ask is you do some shopping and have a clear understanding of what these cars sell for and what their issues are. People see someone buying a car on the internet for $8k showing pics from 15' away with no regard to how it actually functions and WAM! we have the 100 replies that this is a screaming deal and all others should be priced accordingly.

Dinan stroker engine, suspension and brakes.

I am a long time car collector who bought this car when I moved to CA to have some fun. It is the most fun you will have at this price point bar none. It has top surface SOCAL fade and clear coat peeling (looks better in pics then it is). Otherwise it is a clean straight car. From 10ft it is fine. Interior is just about flawless for it's age except drivers door panel minor trim separation. Radio alarm went off and will not reset. I have factory code card and I can't get it to stop. Everything else works. Remember this is a sub $15k car that is 25 years old so be realistic. If you have a clean ashtray obsession ask as otherwise I do not think to look at these things. I get in, warm it up and drive it smiling ear to ear.

You can buy the $8k stock car and realize it's performance shortcomings and dump $5k into just getting the maintenance work done. You can buy the dolled up $20k car that has minor scratches here and there hidden by over buffed panels and clever photography. Of course the $25k low mile car look like a good buy until you realize it needs just as much work as the cheap one.

What I am offering is a nicely sorted M5 with an asking price that just about covers the maintenance performed in the last 10k miles. This car is used EVERY day and does everything it is supposed to no shakes, stumbles, etc. It is a muscle car that you can drive the kids to school in with the A/C on. PPI's are fine as long as the mechanic respects the car and my wishes and understand it isn't a new car.

CA buyers I have to obtain a front license plate as it was never given to me when I bought the car and being new to CA didn't realize it was missing. SMOG??? It has always been a CA car and has always passed as is. That said it is a modified car that appears to have all the smog stuff on the car including pump (yes pump is noisy for first couple min common issue and works fine) and stock exhaust. Dinan muffler was removed as per F Fahey. I would rather sell out of state where someone can put in 93 octane and swap out the cats. I hate SMOG and do not want to get involved with it. That said it is currently smogged and registered.

Can you drive it home??? YES! If it breaks down I will pay up to $800 towards towing or repair with proof. It will make it no problem. I will also throw in a $300 car cover and radar detector with Buy It Now.

I am not interested in hearing about your cars or having the forum self proclaimed master debate me on my car. I am honest seller (look at my rating) who simply wants nice easy transaction. I will gladly assist serious buyers in anyway I can. This is not a stock M5 it is a race car with 4drs. There are faster cars but this thing is more fun then you could imagine making all the noises and tickling the senses that would require another $100k investment to replicate.

CAR MUST BE PAID FOR AND PICKED UP BY 4/1/2014.

Meet the inventor of the BMW 3 Series wagon

Sat, 11 May 2013

It's hard to imagine, but once upon a time, there were only two BMW 3 Series variants: the coupe and sedan. Back before gran coupes, convertibles and yes, even touring models were available, buyers could only get their 3 Series fix if it came with two or four doors and a fixed roof. Back in the mid '80s, BMW engineer Max Reisbock was having some trouble fitting his whole family into his four door. Rather than suck it up and buy a van, he picked up a wrecked 3 Series and got to cutting in a buddy's garage. Months later, he had the very first 3 Series Touring ever built.
At first, he kept the the car to himself, using it to haul friends and family around, but he eventually showed it off to his friends at work. When the BMW executives found out about his project, they called him up to take a closer look. After putting an eyeball on the car, they took it, copied his design, made a few tweaks and quickly rolled out the first production 3 Series Touring. How's that for validation? Check out the video below for Reisbock's story.

BMW ponders increase in i3 production capacity on early demand

Wed, 16 Oct 2013

The 2014 BMW i3 is not slated to hit US showrooms until the second quarter of next year, but the response BMW has received for the all-electric hatchback has been positive enough that the automaker is already considering boosting production capacity. Bloomberg Businessweek reports that more than 8,000 customers have reserved an i3 so far, which is high, especially considering that BMW only planned to sell 10,000 i3s total in 2014.
Talking to BMW CFO Friedrich Eichiner, the report says that if the demand holds for the i3, BMW would increase capacity accordingly. The i3 goes on sale next month in Germany before a global roll out in the US, China and Japan, and with a starting price of $41,350, it is priced slightly higher than current small plug-in vehicles offered in the US like the Chevy Volt, Ford Focus Electric and Toyota Prius Plug-in, though features more use of advanced, lightweight materials.

Is BMW the only real competition to Tesla Motors?

Sat, Mar 1 2014

Tesla Motors chief Elon Musk probably isn't losing a ton of sleep over the new plug-in efforts by the makers of the "Ultimate Driving Machine," but maybe he should. That's what the Motley Fool is saying, presenting the case that the California company's real competition will come from BMW. What about the plug-in efforts of General Motors or Ford? Musk can hit the snooze, Motley Fool says. Unlike automakers that are "jamming battery packs into the existing vehicle design," BMW has built its i3 battery-electric and i8 plug-in hybrid supercar from the ground up. Like Tesla, BMW puts its battery packs into the floor of its vehicles. Most importantly, the i3 - and especially the i8 - are real performers. While the i8 is about 40-percent more expensive than the Tesla, it matches the Model S's 0-60 mile per hour acceleration times and handily beats its top speed figures. Tesla sold about 6,900 vehicles during the last three months of 2013 and BMW had more than 10,000 i3 orders on the books by late November and the first year's allotment of i8s is already sold out. The German automaker has what the Fool calls an "outside chance" of selling more plug-in vehicles than Tesla by next year, but Tesla is gearing up its gigafactory to get ready to sell a half-million EVs in 2020, so the race is most certainly on. You can read more over on the Fool.
