1991 Bmw M5 E34 on 2040-cars
Morriston, Florida, United States
Looking for an inexpensive way to get into an E34 M5? Here's your chance. It's not show-perfect, but it presents well overall. It's a blast to drive, and you could go for years without seeing another on the road. I've owned 2 of these, and those are the only 2 I have ever seen in person.
I've only owned this car for a few months - and planned to keep it for a long time, as evidenced by the amount of preventative maintenance detailed below. However, I am trying to purchase a business and need to free up some cash fairly quickly. This car was to be a long-term project for me, so I still haven't gotten around to some of the less-important items. I focused on mechanical reliability / durability items first, and so the ancillary systems and cosmetics were lower on the priority list. So, the details: S38 inline-6 cylinder engine in excellent running condition. Does not burn or leak any significant amount of oil (this means, there's no drips or visible leaking on the driveway, undercarriage is dry). As with any 20+ year old engine, I can't guarantee there's not some tiny area of seepage, but I've not seen anything of significance. I've noticed up to a 1/2 quart added between oil changes on average. Gearbox is tight and smooth - no grinding, no pop-outs, synchros work perfectly. IN the last 3 months, the following has been done: Valve adjustment Refinished camshaft cover and plenum with black wrinkle-finish, and new M-emblem. New seals, o-rings, and gaskets for entire induction system Vacuum system gone through, all vacuum lines/hoses replaced, new vacuum caps at each throttle body. Throttle bodies disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, and synchronized. New throttle cable and cruise control cable. New accelerator pedal bushings and spring. Updated camshaft chain tensioner (S50B32 version) Fresh lube in gearbox (ATF) and differential (castrol syntrax). New Bosch (OE BMW) plugs, cap, rotor (wires were less than a year old). Every hose in the cooling system has been replaced (not just the big ones, also the dozen or so related to heater plumbing, overflow, degas, etc. Most are OE BMW). New Behr (OE BMW) fan clutch (viscous fan) New Behr (OE BMW) thermostat and o-rings New Saleri water pump New Bosch (OE BMW) fuel pump New Bosch (OE BMW) ignition coil New Hella (OE BMW) auxiliary water pump New Bosch (OE BMW) heater valves Rebuilt Alternator UUC Evo3 short shifter and DSSR New leather knob with backlit ///M stripe pattern refinished leather seats with SEM Classic Coat (front seats have cracking but this refinishing made them presentable again). Will eventually need new leather. refinished door panels, used 3M Di-Noc ebony woodgrain vinyl over original wood grain (could be removed easily if desired). New thrust arms (Meyle HD) New Sigla (OEM) windshield and trims Window tint with lifetime warranty - Formula one tint, 30%. Fresh brake fluid / system bled Brake caliper slides cleaned Wiper arms refinished Wiper cowl cover refinished Inner door skins and drains cleaned and treated with rust-preventing grease. New hood lift struts New Bosch O2 sensor New air filter New interior cabin air filter New HIR headlamp bulbs Recently replaced guibo and fuel injectors, MAF sensor rebuilt. Door panels replaced with improved 1995 style, with gathered-leather inserts, and full leather wrapped/stitched door handles. Car has Racing Dynamics sway bars, SLS delete (Dinan stage 1 kit, I think). Dinan chip Throwing star wheels with good tires all around. Wheels have some scuffs/rash but are straight. Tires have at least 50% tread remaining. Brake pads have at least 60% remaining. Sunroof and all windows/locks work properly. Power seats, including heating, work properly. Problem areas: Headliner is worn, it's not sagging but eventually needs to be re-done Seat condition described above - cracks in leather, general wear all around. Rear parcel shelf needs re-covering. It's covered in black cloth instead of the original gray. A/C was working up until about a week ago. I believe there's a leak in the evaporator core, or the expansion valve, or an o-ring between them. The compressor was working great when the refrigerant leaked out via the evaporator housing. Paint is overall very presentable, but I think it was a medium-quality job, not show quality by any means. A few chips and things here and there but still shines well. NO RUST. Undercarriage is clean. Car has been in the Southeast US its entire life. Pioneer head unit with USB and ipod connection, illumination to match the BMW orange. JBL front component speakers. On Aug-20-14 at 08:10:44 PDT, seller added the following information: Update: I took a look at the Air Conditioning system today. There IS still refrigerant (R134) in there, My gauges read about 90psi, so perhaps my suspicion about the leak is wrong. I think the system will still need inspection, but at least at this point it's not a catastrophic failure from what I can tell. |

BMW doubles i8 production to meet demand
Sat, Mar 28 2015They're not exactly Ford F-150 pickup truck numbers, but global sales of the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid are spurring the German automaker to step up the supercar's pace of production. As rumored, Bimmer, which has been pretty happy with sales of its i3 electric vehicle, is going to double the production pace of the i8. BMW's Germany factory will now put out about 20 i8 vehicles a day, Automotive News Europe says. That should cut down the wait time for the model, which started sales in both Europe last June and in the US two months later. Right now, buyers have to wait about four months to get their i8 plug-in vehicles, Automotive News Europe says, citing German outlet Automobil Produktion. Given that the cars retail for $135,000, we suspect these are people who probably aren't accustomed to wait for much. In January, BMW said that it sold almost 18,000 i3 and i8 plug-in vehicles last year globally, with about a third of those going to the US. Specifically, BMW moved 555 units of the i8 last year (and the vehicle was really only available for about five months) and another 198 through February. Through February, Bimmer also moved 1,759 units of the i3. Editors' Picks June 2023: BMW 3 Series and more luxury sport sedans
Fri, Jul 7 2023This month sees a number of luxury sport sedans gain Editors' Pick status thanks to updated or recently-all-new models coming out. The BMW 3 Series is a longtime favorite, and so is the Alfa Romeo Giulia at this point. Just like the electric version of the G80, though, the gasoline version is also an Editors' Pick this month. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get an EditorsÂ’ Pick designation. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in May that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2023 BMW 3 Series 2023 BMW 3 Series View 15 Photos Quick take: The 3 Series may not be the standard anymore, but it's still a superb luxury sport sedan with powerful engines, great handling, impressive tech and tons of space. Score: 7.5 What it competes with: Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Cadillac CT4, Acura TLX, Lexus IS, Infiniti Q50, Genesis G70, Volvo S60 Pros: Enjoyable and powerful engines; fun handling; lots of space in rear seat and cargo area; attractive design inside and out Cons: Infotainment is frustrating to use sometimes; value isn't the best From the editors: Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "The 3 Series ticks all the boxes that a top-shelf luxury sport sedan should. It's attractive but not gaudy. The driving dynamics leave me grinning at the end of a fun road, but don't beat me up on the highway. Any and all modern tech is present and accounted for. And while the price is high, it's not so bad for what you get. I'm an especially big fan of the M340i with its inline-six, but the four-cylinder in the 330i is an excellent option if you don't want to spend as much." In-depth analysis: 2023 BMW 3 Series gets fresh styling and infotainment  2023 Genesis G80 2022 Genesis G80 Sport Prestige View 61 Photos Quick take: The G80 has looks to kill, and it backs that design up with a functional and also-gorgeous interior. There's a lot of value to be had with this nice-to-drive luxury sedan.
2014 BMW X5 doesn't upset the formula
Wed, 29 May 2013BMW has unveiled the 2014 X5, and fans of the company's CUV will find plenty familiar in the machine. The biggest change to the recipe comes in the form of the X5 sDrive35i, which is the first rear-wheel drive version of the high-riding five-door to date. Buyers will, of course, continue to be able to opt for all-wheel drive, and both models will get their thrust from a 3.0-liter, turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine. That powerplant makes 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW says the combination is good enough to get the SUV to 60 miles per hour in around 6.2 seconds.
Those who require more thrust can step up to the more potent X5 xDrive50i with its twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine. Drivers get to enjoy an extra 45 hp over the previous model, with final output up to 445 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic of its own, the engine can hustle the big X5 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.
The 2014 BMW xDrive35d continues to offer diesel power, though output has dropped 10 horsepower to 255 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. Even so, BMW says the X5 diesel will be just as quick or quicker than the 2013 model. You can check out the full press release below for more information.
