1991 Bmw M5 Base Sedan 4-door 3.6l on 2040-cars
Easton, Connecticut, United States
This is a 1991 BMW E34 M5 that needs some work but does run and drive. What's most important is that the motor is in great shape and had a top end only a year and half ago. I have pictures of the internals.
154k miles, odometer just stopped working. These are low miles. I have owned the car for the last three years and absolutely love it. I have spent lots of money maintaining it but it just needs more attention than I can give it right now. The interior is in decent shape besides the fact that the headliner is not in, and needs to be re-fabriced. The seats are in good shape, no tears. The dash is in good shape. The carpets are in good shape, but one of the rear door leather panels had swelled and popped off. The two front doors need doors jams replaced, because of this the driver's window will not go down. the two back door jams are fine, and all of the other windows work fine. The sunroof works great. The heat works very well. The AC works but the serpentine belt or pulley is seizing up which causes the power steering to go in an out if vehicle is parked and trying to turn. when moving the steering works fine. For this reason, I do not use the AC. The radio, onboard computer, and all other electrical components work well except for the speedometer (needs sensor). Needs an LKM (Light control module) this is a common thing to wear out on E34's its simply a board that plugs into relay box or you can re-solder the contacts. This causes low beams to shut off sometimes but high beam always works. Suspension: needs front end work/steering work. Just recently developed a steering wobble that is set off by bump. Has some steering play. Needs lower control arms, all 4 struts and springs (makes loud bang when hitting bumps). It will drive around town fine but really should not be taken on the highway. Body: NO major dents. I have replacement hood for one dent in hood. Normal rock chips on front. The clear coat is pealing in one part of the car with pictures below. With a nice buff and wax the original paint shines well for how old it is. only rust is some surface rust on passenger front door that can be sanded- pictures below. Clean title. Transmission: has a third gear grind, needs a new synchro. It will shift into 3rd fine if the rpm's are not super high and if not slammed into gear. It changes other gears fine. regulary changed the fluid- currently has Dex III ATF per BMW specs. Reverse will ever so often pop out if engaging cold but never pop out while moving. It will go in just fine if you try again...not a big deal Motor: mint condition, regularly serviced - oil changes with mobil 1 synthetic 15:50. No oil leaks on this at all, or any fluid for that matter. Valve clearances done. Gaskets replaced. spark plugs regularly. This is the most important aspect of these cars; this is what gives these cars great collector and monetary value and this one is good to go. I had the headgasket done last fall. I have pictures of the internal parts of the motor when this procedure was done! Including valves ground and tested. It has lots of pull and power and life left. Does not leak or burn oil. Modifications: Billy boat tri-flow exhaust, Turner Motorsports Chip, bilstein struts, eibach springs (no more self-leveling), gripforce F1 clutch (only 10k miles on), tinted windows, Weighted M- shifter knob short shift kit, head light out for air intake, euro-plate, headlight skins. Other: Needs new speedometer sensor...this is probably why odometer stopped working. Needs all 4 brake pads and rotors. Needs 1 gas tank strap, it is rigged fine for the last few years. rubber intake boot is taped because has a few cracks in it. Serpentine belt should be replaced. New Parts include Transmission Mounts Flex Disc Front/Rear Sway Bar Bushings the clutch: installed two summers ago upper control arms: 2 years ago headgasket was done last fall, the head was machined, and the valves were all ground, lapped, and water tested. oil filter housing gaskets rear main seal swear bar bushings tires: two summers ago (Michelin MXX4 pilots) 80% remaining Water pump: last fall Radiator: done by previous owner alternator: last fall high quality battery: 3 weeks ago (179.00) I have listed everything wrong with the car very thoroughly. This car has always been serviced by a reputable german mechanic of which i have most receipts for. It has been driven daily, not sat for long periods, and never abused. The longest it has sat was for the last few months and it was started and driven periodically. It does start, run, and drive as it is but should have certain things done (mainly the brakes and front end) before being used as a daily driver again. You are welcome to come test drive it. I have regularly driven it from here to VT and MA and it is fantastic on the highway, and will be once the suspension is refreshed. It has been reliable - never left me stranded. In parts alone its worth a great deal to enthusiasts. My car was also featured on germanautonews.com (i will find the link for the article) Email for more pictures as well. If you are mechanically inlined you can drive and restore this at the same time. Low Reserve. |

Project CARS vs reality at Laguna Seca shows amazing potential
Mon, 28 Apr 2014Project CARS is aiming to be the next great racing sim. Offering a mix of modern and classic cars on famous tracks, developer Slightly Mad Studios is trying to inject a fresh energy into the genre, and at the moment its game looks ready to take on Forza and Gran Turismo.
The game is still about six months from release, and the graphics already look practically photorealistic. The video below shows side-by-side laps of Laguna Seca in a BMW - real life on the left and the game on the right. It's absolutely astounding. Other than some changes to the sponsorship around the track, they are almost identical.
Of course anyone with quality seat time in a racing sim knows that graphics are just one factor. How the game feels is even more important, and without getting hands on, it's impossible to judge yet. However, consider our interest piqued. Project CARS is scheduled to launch in November on the Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, Nintendo WiiU, Windows PC and Steam OS. Scroll down to check out the video.
BMW working with Dainese to put airbags in motorcycle suits [w/video]
Fri, 19 Jul 2013Addressing the safety concerns of its customers, BMW Motorrad is co-developing a rider suit with Dainese to feature something that's much more common in automobiles: airbags.
Starting with Dainese's D-air Protect System, which is made up of inflatable protectors that deploy in 15 milliseconds, the two companies will integrate the technology into a BMW Motorrad brand, one-piece racing suit, the DoubleR RaceAir. Later a different, street-oriented airbag system that can be retrofitted to bikes will be offered to Beemer riders.
The DoubleR RaceAir is expected to be presented at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan in November, after all required crash testing has been completed.
