For sale is my 1991 M5 restoration project. I no longer have much time to continue with fixing this thing up, so it's time for someone else to take the reins.

Chassis miles: 220,000

Engine and transmission mileage is unknown since they were both replaced at some point during the cars life-cycle. The engine has been overhauled in the last 500 miles though and the transmission does not exhibit any issues.

In the last 1000 miles, the car has had the following done:

cylinder head rebuilt
new head gasket, top and bottom end gasket kits (all gaskets in the engine were replaced)
new exhaust hangars
new fuel filter
new spark plugs, cap, rotor, wires
new hood struts
new heated washer nozzles
new timing chain tensioner S50B30EU spec
new timing chain tensioner rails and guide rails
new rubber intake manifold mounts (vacuum canister mounts)
new silicon vacuum hose kit
new vacuum check valve on brake booster lines
SLS Delete using 535i power-steering pump and rear struts.
new trans mounts
new engine mounts
new brake rotors
new brake pads
new brake pad wear sensors
new positive terminal cap
new battery
custom seat mounts for the recaro seats
new door striker (driver's front)
new window regulator (driver's rear)
new outside temp sensor
new fuel filter

new intake manifold emblem (included, but not yet installed)

Also included will be several spare parts for the car.

The car does need a few things:

front control arms
front struts
new windshield
body and paint
shifter bushings
Tires
fog lights
radio head-unit
trim pieces

THIS IS A PROJECT CAR. I do drive it often, but to make it a daily driver it will need the aforementioned items replaced. With some new tires and maybe a radio, I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere in the country tomorrow.

Car comes with a ton of extra spare parts as well.

Vehicle is sold as is. Buyer is responsible for inspecting or arranging for an inspection before placing bid.

BMW Vision Future Luxury Concept is bold and beautiful in Beijing

Sun, 20 Apr 2014

BMW officially unveiled the Vision Future Luxury Concept today (or is it tomorrow?) at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, giving the world's media an in-the-flesh look at not only a future design theme for the brand, but a rumored flagship model.
This is a looker in person, thanks to its Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe-inspired design, and it's not too difficult to imagine it in production car form, with smaller wheels, larger mirrors and the other minor transformations that take place from drawing board, to auto show and, finally, to assembly line. In general, it seems like there are more than a few parts of this vehicle that are ready for production.
We didn't talk about it in our initial post, but it bears mentioning that this particular concept is wearing an eDrive badge on its backside, indicating that under the Vision Future Luxury's long hood is some form of plug-in-hybrid propulsion. It's anyone's guess as to what engine, battery and motor combinations BMW is playing with, although it does seem questionable whether BMW would launch a PHEV flagship to do battle with a top-rung variant of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (which will likely use V12 power).

BMW against Merkel's female board member quota in Germany

Fri, Nov 28 2014

There may soon be more women in power positions in the world of German business under a proposed law from Chancellor Angela Merkel's coalition government. If passed, the law would force large, publicly traded corporations to have female members make up at least 30 percent of their supervisory boards (which are responsible in part for business strategy) by 2016. In addition, all companies would have to increase the female proportion on their management boards, which conduct regular business. The law seems likely to pass next month. "We've decided to do this and it will happen," said Merkel in a speech about the new rule, according to Bloomberg. Women currently have just six percent of management board seats in the country. Big businesses in the country aren't on board with proposed law, including automakers. "BMW as a company doesn't believe in quotas," said spokesperson Jochen Frey to Bloomberg. "While we hold that opinion, we want and strive for diversity in our workforce in terms of gender, ethnicity and age." Currently, 25 percent of Bimmer's supervisory board is female, a bit higher than the national average in Germany of 22 percent. German car companies are hardly alone when it comes to having a paucity of women in positions of power. Honda only added its first female member to the automaker's board of directors earlier this year, and Toyota and Nissan showed similarly low numbers. A 2013 list from Fortune ranked many of the most powerful women in the auto industry as coming from North America.

Rinspeed previews Budii concept ahead of Geneva show

Mon, Dec 8 2014

Every year Frank Rinderknecht and his team at Rinspeed come to the Geneva Motor Show with another fantastical concept car, and next year's will be no exception. Though the show may still be several months away, the Swiss outfit is already giving us a glimpse of what to expect. Rinspeed's latest project is called the Budii, and it aims to "redefine the relationship between man and machine." As you might have guessed, that means driverless technology. Specific details at this point are limited, but the design calls for an electric vehicle with an adaptable cabin featuring drive-by-wire steering wheel. That wheel can swing out of the way to the center of the dashboard or to either side, should driver or passenger (as blurred as those rigid concepts become in this case) wish to take control. Beyond that we don't know much at this point, but the image above seems to indicate it'll be based on the BMW i3. Meanwhile the long list of partners and suppliers suggest it'll feature a design by Mansory, a Harman infotainment system and a Carl F. Bucherer analog clock embedded in the dynamic dashboard. 2015 Geneva Motor Show Rinspeed exhibits "Budii" at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show: "We need to redefine the relationship between man and machine" As far as Swiss automotive visionary Frank M. Rinderknecht is concerned, the breakneck speed of technical developments forces us to redefine our relationship with the automobile. The farsighted Swiss says: "Until now, what we have primarily associated with auto mobility was freedom and individuality. And - consciously or unconsciously - we are prepared to pay a high price in many regards for these privileges. We need only look at the accident statistics." Autonomous driving undoubtedly offers the opportunity to drastically diminish some of the drawbacks of private transport. For example, the number of traffic accidents could drop worldwide. But although it will be less prone to err than humans, even the best technology will not be perfect. "That is something we will have to accept," believes the boss of Rinspeed, the Swiss automotive powerhouse of ideas.
