1988 Bmw M5 Base Sedan 4-door 3.5l on 2040-cars
San Francisco, California, United States
1988 BMW M5 Mileage: 160K VIN #: WBSDC930XJ2791256 History: AutoCheck Vehicle History Report available upon request Seller Comments: This is a very original and complete E28
M5 that has spent the majority of its life in Northern California. It was
resurrected from storage around 2011 and has only limited service records available.
According to record, the M5 was sold new in NY and passed through the Midwest
before finally making it to California in 1997, which may explain why the car
has some rust found at three of the four jacking points and at the rear lower
rear valence. (Pictures available upon request)
In my opinion, the rust isn’t extensive and a competent and experienced
auto body technician should find the repair not extraordinary. That being
said, most of the paint is factory original and all VIN tags are present on all
panels with the exception of the hood and driver’s front fender, where the hood
has original VIN tag, but has been refinished and the fender appears to have
been refinished and replaced. Overall, I would consider this a solid M5 that is
a good candidate for restoration for those in the know. Vehicle Condition Drivetrain: Motor is stock with no modifications, starts
reliably with smooth idle, runs strong and does not burn or leak oil.
Transmission shifts well in all gears, hot or cold but has typical leak at gear
selector shaft seal or at rear output seal (exact location TBD) and has minor
vibration during idle at/near rear transmission mount. New O2 sensor installed
and M5 recently passed CA smog. Recent engine oil and transmission oil change
with Mobile 1 15w-50 and Redline MTL respectively. New motor mounts. (by
previous owner 04/13) Suspension: (by previous owner 04/13) New upper and lower control arms, tie
rods and sway bar links. New rear subframe mounts and rear pitman
links. Recent front Bilstein Sport struts
(front) and rear suspension SLS delete. (prior to previous owner) Brakes: (by previous owner 04/13) Front and rear calipers rebuilt New front and rear rotors New brake pads and wear sensors New SS brake lines Exterior: (by previous owner 04/13) Windshield and lock strip New trunk and taillight gaskets and
sunroof gaskets New antenna mast Wheels powder coated with new Kuhmo
Ecsta 225/50ZR15 tires Interior: (by previous owner 04/13) New/used dashboard New shift knob and shifter boot New/used factory OEM radio (code needed) New seatbelt latches New AC compressor and receiver/drier (however,
AC does not blow cold) The Seller has made every effort to describe vehicle accurately to the best of his knowledge. Buyer's must take into consideration that the vehicle is 26 years old and may have defects other than what the Seller has disclosed. Therefore, interested Buyers are encouraged to conduct a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) at their own cost before bidding. The sale of this vehicle is 'As is' and 'Final'.

Recharge Wrap-up: first Chevy Volt hits 200K miles, DriveNow launches in London with BMW i3 on deck
Mon, Dec 8 2014The first Chevrolet Volt has driven over 200,000 miles. According to the owner, Erick Belmer, the car, which he purchased on March 28, 2012, is "holding up flawlessly" with "no noticeable battery capacity loss." Belmer has a commute of about 220 miles per day, rotates his tires every 10,000 miles, and gets an oil change every 38,000 miles. Belmer still loves driving his "dream car" every day, and says it is "wonderfully engineered." Read more at Inside EVs. DriveNow has launched in London, and will include the BMW i3 as part of its carsharing fleet. Daimler shut down its Car2go operations there just six months ago. Currently, DriveNow members have access to the BMW 1 Series and Mini Countryman, but come spring of 2015, DriveNow, which is a joint venture between BMW and Sixt SE, will add 30 all-electric i3 EVs to its London service. DriveNow's rates for London are set at 39 pence per minute, with an hourly maximum cost of GBP20 (about 61 US cents and $31, respectively). The service currently operates in the boroughs of Islington, Haringey and Hackney, with hopes of expanded service in the near future. Read more at Hybrid Cars or at Reuters. FIA's Formula E electric racing championship series received the Autosport award for Pioneering and Innovation. The award ceremony was a black-tie event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag accepted the award. "Many people in motorsport, when we started Formula E, didn't think we would make the first race," says Agag. "To announce we were doing a championship with cars that didn't then exist was a real challenge. But after that first race in Beijing, everything worked." Read more at Formula E's website. The Nissan Leaf has driven over a billion collective kilometers. That's more than 621.3 million miles. Nissan said in August that it expected to reach that mark by January, and it has done just that. To celebrate, Nissan Europe has created a video to thank its 147,000 Leaf drivers to bring the car to that substantial milestone in less than four years. Check out the video below. BMW M4 to debut in Detroit, lose manual transmission
Wed, 21 Aug 2013BMW took the wraps off its M4 Concept at Pebble Beach last weekend, and many speculated that the highly anticipated production version of the sleek new two-door sports coupe would debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this year. But a well-placed source tell Autoblog that the E92 M3's successor won't arrive in Southern California this November. Instead, the German automaker will wait until the Detroit Auto Show in January for its first official reveal.
An all-new 3.0-liter inline-six with twin turbochargers is expected under the hood, and it should provide about the same horsepower as the current 4.0-liter V8 (rated at 414 horsepower), but with much more torque that arrives lower on the tachometer. The lightweight engine is said to have an impressively high redline, which is unusual for a turbocharged engine.
Unfortunately, Save the Manuals members aren't going to like this next bit of news. After four generations of three-pedal M3 models, our source says the upcoming F82 M4 will arrive with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) as standard equipment - with no manual option - just like the latest iteration of the track-ready Porsche GT3 (few have complained about the automaker's PDK after driving the latest sports car from Stuttgart). In exchange for some moans, groans and gripes from enthusiasts, BMW's DCT mounted aft of the M4's inline-six will provide quicker acceleration and improved fuel economy.
Xcar checks if BMW's i8 offers moves as electrifying as its looks
Sat, 02 Aug 2014If you were to plot the general opinion about hybrids since their introduction among auto enthusiasts, the resulting graph would likely be shaped somewhat like a "V." In the beginning interest was high, simply due the novelty of these new powertrains, then the line would gradually fall as the models got the stereotype of being boring commuters. Today, though, things might be back on the upswing. Vehicles like the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and BMW i8 are showing that a hybrid doesn't have to be synonymous for dull. In its latest video, Xcar Films aims to find out if BMW's electrified sports coupe actually earns the brand's old moniker as the ultimate driving machine.
While the focus here is on what the i8 is like behind the wheel, one of the main highlights for the viewer is the interesting ways that Xcar shoots the BMW. It's not necessarily a beautiful vehicle, but seeing it in motion reveals all sorts of little intricacies that still photos don't pick up. For example, our eye catches the flying buttresses and little crevices scooped out of the corners when we get a look at the rear. It's just a fun car to look at.
With its 1.5-liter, turbocharged, three-cylinder engine and electric motor, the i8 positions itself as the future of automotive performance. But its intriguing looks and cutting-edge use of carbon fiber would be wasted if the coupe didn't drive well. We won't spoil the final verdict, though, you'll have to watch the video above.
