E30 M3 Hennarot, Euro S50b32, Recaro, Wilwood, Excellent Condition on 2040-cars
Arlington, Virginia, United States
1988 Hennarot E30 M3 with an E36 M3 S50B32 Euro motor. 191,0xx miles on the chassis, approx 79k miles on the motor/transmission. I purchased this car in the spring of 2013 from a gentleman in CA who had done most of the mechanical work on the car, and really made it into the wonderful driving car that it currently is. From my understanding the car was largely stock when he bought it several years before my ownership, from that point he focused on maintenance that the car needed. I have a binder containing most of the documentation from the previous owner. The motor swap is obviously the biggest change over stock. I’ve been told by two separate and independent shops, that the swap was very well done. The engine is very strong, and runs extremely well, I had a compression/leak down done on the car before my purchase and all cylinders checked out perfectly. In fact, the company that sold him the motor wrote ‘superb engine’ on the valve cover while they were testing it. I'd estimate that engine has been in the car for about 6000 miles. When I took delivery of the car I drove it home 1300 miles, it was a great drive, and the car didn’t miss a beat. I never had any intention of selling this car this quickly, but I’ve purchased two other BMW’s from the late 80’s that are projects, and simply don’t have room for my M3 any longer. Exterior Modifications: - OEM Evo2 front splitter with replica Evo3 splitter - Evo3 rear spoiler and carbon fiber flap - BMW Motorsport door handles - Euro smilies Drivetrain/Engine Modifications: - Genuine carbon fiber airbox with OETuning tune - AKG S50/S52 E30 motor mounts (less than 2000 miles old) - Z3 steering rack - E28 M5 coding plug (so the stock RPM gauge is accurate) - Sparco strut bar - E36 Euro M3 radiator - ZF 5sp transmission (less than 2500 miles old) - Autosolution SSK - Treehouse control arm bushing - E36 M3 Eisenmann muffler with catless custom exhaust - Massive Rally BBK (6 pistons front, 4 pistons rear) - Ground Control S/A coilovers - Ground Control camber plates - Ground Control rear shock mounts - Ground Control 650#/400# springs (less than 1000 miles old) - E28 3.25 LSD differential (rebuilt by Diffs Online about 2500 miles ago) - 17” OZ Superleggera wheels (no curb rash) - Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 215/40/17 (less than 5000 miles old) Recent Maintenance (oil changed every 3000 miles): - Brake fluid flush (less than 7000 miles old) - New spark plugs (less than 5000 miles old) - E36 '96+ offset front control arm (less than 4000 miles old) - New front wheel bearings (less than 4000 miles old) - Various belts and gaskets replaced (less than 4000 miles old) - New battery (less than 4000 miles old) - New fuel tank and fuel pump (less than 2000 miles old) - New thermostat (less than 500 miles old) - New sway bar end links (less than 500 miles old) Interior Modifications: - NRG quick release hub - thin version - Momo Champion steering wheel - Recaro SR3 seats (new less than 1000 miles old) - VDO cluster gauges (oil temp, oil pressure, water temp) - BMP instrument console (for the VDO gauges) - Custom ///M floor mats (less than 500 miles old) - Alpine head unit (note: there are no cracks in the dash) - ZHP weighted shift knob Considerations: - Dot-r front left fender.....parking lot mishap with a previous owner - The rear bumper was painted at one time - There is a small amount of rust repaired below the windshield on the driver side (see photo) - The driver side E-brake shoe assembly is missing (e-brake still works fine) - No a/c, heater core (note: the lines are still intact) - Corners of the bumpers stick out slightly (common) - The spare tire well is riveted shut - I personally like the patina on the front bumper, others may think it needs a repaint. - The exhaust is slightly crooked, and if desired could be rehung There isn’t much to nit pick on this car, you can get in and drive it across the country, or to work everyday. It has major and expensive upgrades that arguably make it a better car. Better in the sense that it has a power train that is more reliable than the S14, it creates more power, brakes harder, and turns faster. As you can see from the pictures the paint is in fantastic condition for a 25+ year old car. If you have never seen hennarot in person, it’s a gorgeous color, and also quite rare, I believe only about 300 M3’s were produced in this color. I am happy to answer any questions serious buyers have, I’ve tried to be as thorough and forthright with the condition as possible. I do have the car listed locally and reserve the right to end the auction early. |

Recharge Wrap-up: Renault's electric motors, BMW i3 is AM free
Wed, Jul 1 2015Why isn't AM radio offered in the BMW i3? Some drivers – particularly those interested in local traffic reports – have noticed its absence. BMW says that the electromagnetic interference from the electric drivetrain caused poor performance, and that while reception wasn't always terrible, it wasn't up to their standards. Rather than have customers complain to their dealers, who would be unable to do anything for them, BMW has disabled AM reception in the i3. Some customers have hacked their cars in order to enable the AM radio, despite possible warranty issues, and have found the reception to be acceptable. Read more at Green Car Reports. Saab's current parent company, National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), broke ground for production and R&D facilities in Tianjin, China. The facilities are part of joint ventures with the city of Tianjin and State Research Information Technology (SRIT). In addition to investments of over $190 million from SRIT and Teamsun, NEVS has received $1.6 billion in credit from the Bank of China to develop its business there. The new Tianjin factory will have a capacity of 200,000 new energy vehicles per year. The facility in Trollhattan, Sweden will provide manufacturing planning, training, and product supply for the Tianjin plant. Read more at Green Car Congress, and in the press release from NEVS. Renault is building the new R240 electric motor for the Zoe at its Cleon plant. The plant and its employees, which specialize in the Energy dCi diesel engine, have adapted to produce high volumes of the electric motor as well, including a 6,000 hours of training for the staff and millions of dollars in investments. "We aim to become the leading powertrain plant for the Alliance," says Cleon plant director Mendi Ammad. The plant is capable of producing 50,000 units of the R240 motor per year, with that number expected to double in the future. Read more about the plant and the production process the press release below. NEW ELECTRIC MOTOR STRENGTHENS POWERTRAIN EXPERTISE AT CLEON ZOE's new electric motor, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, is a 100% Renault motor manufactured at the French site of Cleon, already specialized in highly technical powertrain production. Until now, the flagship of the Cleon plant was the Energy dCi (130, 140, 160) internal-combustion engine. The diesel unit with advanced technological content has made a name for itself at Groupe Renault, the Alliance and with our partners.
BMW-Toyota partnership to spawn hybrid supercar
Wed, 06 Nov 2013BMW and Toyota inked a partnership some time ago to develop green technology, and while we were excited by the idea of a reborn Supra with BMW's carbon fiber reinforced plastic slashing the curb weight or an ultra-efficient, hybridized 1 Series, the joint efforts have been rather limited. That's set to change, though, according to a report from Australia.
Motoring reports that the partners have come to terms on a sports car. And not just any sports car, but a lightweight, hybridized model, with a six-figure price tag. Lending a bit of street cred to that idea is the site's claim that Toyota is currently carrying out durability testing on the BMW i8. According to the site, the new model will slot into the spot left by the Lexus LFA, although based on the language used, it's unclear if this is the Tokyo-bound vehicle we mentioned several months ago.
Details on this potential car are limited, although Motoring claims it will use a Toyota hybrid system mated up to a BMW gas engine - likely the 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 found in the M5 and M6. That sounds pretty amazing to us, but we'd still advise taking this with a grain of salt. What would you like to see out of a joint-venture supercar from Toyota and BMW? Let us know in Comments, and have your say on the prospects of a hybridized, twin-turbocharged V8.
Formula E gets wireless-charging BMW i8 safety car [w/video]
Tue, 26 Aug 2014Racing series typically select a safety car appropriate to the kinds of racecars for which they'll be setting the pace. So you might find a Mercedes SLS pacing a Formula One grand prix, for example, and you're more likely to find a BMW M4 on duty at a DTM race and a Chevy Camaro or SS on an oval speedway for a NASCAR or Indy race. It would only stand to reason, then, that the FIA Formula E Championship kicking off next month in Beijing would press a plug-in into service as its safety car. But the organizers didn't go for your run-of-the-mill Nissan Leaf or Toyota Prius.
No, the safety car for Formula E will be a BMW i8 specially modified for the occasion. As you can see from the video below, the hybrid sports car packs a full roll cage, racing buckets with harnesses, special communications systems and on-board fire extinguishers. But that's not all.
In partnership with technological partner Qualcomm, the Formula E support fleet - including two examples each of the i8 and i3 - will feature inductive charging. So while one is out on the track, or at least sitting at the end of the pit lane waiting to be deployed - the other will be charging wirelessly. The vehicles are still pending FIA approval, and only one has been outfitted with the Qualcomm Halo wireless charging system (with the others to be retrofitted later), but they were all on hand for the recent practice race at Donnington Park.
