The 2001 - 2002 BMW M roadster reads like a BMW greatest hits list. The S54 motor from the E46 M3. Semi-trailing arm rear suspension from the E30. Sport steering wheel from the E39 M5. Gearbox and brakes from the E36 M3. Add in a 3.15 limited slip differential and the updated DSC from the E46. Deep dark shadowline refinished M roadster wheels, a lowered stance, and an M-specific body to complete the look. With 315 hp, and over 300 lbs less than the 2001 M3, this car likes to run. Check the period reviews to see what I mean. This car is by far the most fun vehicle I have ever owned, It has never let me down in a single occasion, going to work, cross country drives, you name it. It is (almost) as content to idle down the road as it is to hustle down a back road. Everything, the controls, are tight and responsive. It makes any drive fun, even a long one. Twice, after an 800 mile drive I felt great and stepped out with a smile on my face, turning back to look at the car as it ticked cool. The silver with the red interior is a very special combination. I love the car and have really enjoyed it. Its takes premium, obviously, but has always returned better than expected fuel economy. The reason I am selling is that I find myself driving more and I hate to put so many miles on such a special car. I have all the maintenance receipts from my work and the previous owner's work. The car has been recently gone over by Harrison Motorsports in GA. They specialize in BMWs, lookup the shop. I have always kept the car clean, washed, and waxed. Included in the sale is the soft-top cover for when the top is down and a custom car cover. The car has: ***Reinforced subframe Fresh front brakes Recent oil change Tires probably have ~80% left Upgraded speakers New rear window New alternator Cosmetic refresh Areas of attention: There are a few scratches and chips throughout the car. I have tried to touch these up on the hood as pictured The car will need rear brakes in 10,000 miles or so These cars are known for cracking rear subframes. This car had this issue and I repaired it at a cost over $4,000...with Randy Forbes' kit. The repair was professionally done by Harrison Motorsports. The car is much stiffer after the repair and this cracking will never be an issue again. The potential issue is S54 motor rod bearings. These usually fail at low mileage. The motor in this car is outside the motor recall dates. I have always taken great car of the car to warm the car up properly (oil and coolant up to temp) every time I take it out. Basically, this car is ready for you to drive it like you stole it! That's honestly it! I am a Mechanical Engineer by training and own five bicycles currently and I have had a few motorbikes in the past. I have been a perfectionist about everything mechanical I own and this car is no exceptions. The car (his name is Sterling by the way) has been my baby and I get teased over the amount I obsess over it I don't have to sell it by any means and it will upset me to do so, but I guess it is time for me to be a bit more practical... My email is sheppatterson@gmail.com and my phone is 615 516 3568 if you wish to contact me directly. And, for any Jalopnik fans: Why you need an M Roadster |

12 best hybrid SUVs for 2022
Tue, Jun 15 2021If you're searching for the best hybrid SUV, the truth is there actually aren't that many choices. While there's an endless sea of those powered solely by gasoline, those that add batteries and superior fuel economy to the mix are few and far between. The very good news, however, is that the choices you have are actually excellent. The top-selling and top-rated Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are not only available as hybrids, for instance, but are actually at their most appealing as hybrids. Luxury hybrid SUVs are a different story. While Lexus offers each of its crossover SUVs as a conventional hybrid, those of other brands are by and large plug-in hybrids that provide a relatively brief amount of all-electric propulsion, superior fuel economy and higher prices that are somewhat countered by EV tax rebates. We include both conventional hybrids and plug-in hybrids in the below list of best hybrid SUVs. All are listed alphabetically within each category. Best small hybrid SUVs  |  Best midsize hybrid SUVs Best luxury hybrid SUVs  |  Best luxury plug-in hybrid SUVs Best small hybrid SUVs Honda CR-V Hybrid Why it stands out: Best-in-class back seat space; hybrid's distinctive EV-like power delivery; middle lower LATCH anchorCould be better: Antiquated and glitchy tech interface; a bit dull Hybrid fuel economy: 38 mpg combined (AWD only) Read our 2022 Honda CR-V Review Consider the CR-V the baseline for any compact SUV search. Objectively speaking, it's tough to beat due to its massive cargo capacity, voluminous back seat, well-balanced driving dynamics, competitive pricing and features, strong safety ratings and well-regarded reliability. In terms of its hybridness, we like that Honda's distinctive hybrid system sees most of its propulsion handled by the electric motor (the engine rarely powers the wheels directly), resulting in a more EV-like, torque-rich power delivery and a less obtrusive gas engine. For the vast majority of compact SUV buyers, and especially families, the CR-V Hybrid checks every box.  Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Why it stands out: Beautiful interior; excellent infotainment and safety technology; traditional automatic transmissionCould be better: No spare tire; styling a tad outrageous Hybrid fuel economy: 37-38 mpg combined (AWD only) Plug-in hybrid electric range: 33 miles Plug-in hybrid fuel economy: 80 MPGe Read our 2022 Hyundai Tucson Review The Tucson is the new kid in town and it's made quite an entrance.
2023 CES Editors' Picks
Mon, Jan 9 2023Over the past few years, it has become more and more clear that the Consumer Electronics Show is a car show. And this year that reality is more clear than ever. Not only did established automakers show off seriously important vehicles, but a traditional electronics company brought a car that gives an idea of its intents (with the help of establishment car company). With so many car reveals, we had to rank our favorites. Our picks for this show are entirely electric. Or at least, they are on paper, since many are concepts. Considering the name of the show, it would be a little strange if they weren't. In fact, not only are many of our favorites concepts, they all are save for one. See how they shook out below. VW ID7 camo View 28 Photos 5. Volkswagen ID.7 "The ID.7 definitely got lost in the crowd at CES. That it was camouflaged definitely didn't help, even if that camo was electroluminescent (BMW trumped it big time with its color-changing Dee). Nevertheless, this is a close-to-production hatchback-ed sedan, not unlike today's Arteon, with an extra-long wheelbase courtesy its EV architecture. It should be a solid answer to the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6, and even if people obviously prefer SUVs now, VW says there is still a market for sedans. I know I'd probably prefer one." –Senior Editor, West Coast and Reviews, James Riswick Peugeot Inception concept View 12 Photos 4. Peugeot Inception "It's not often that show debuts surprise us. While Peugeot teased the Inception ahead of CES, its unveiling seemed almost incidental. But just look at this thing; it's like an electric French Mustang with someplace important to be. I don't buy into the stupid 'It's not a wheel!' thing that Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson described as providing a video-game-like drive experience, but that bit of silliness aside, this is a really promising design study. Give us more of these and fewer tall boxes, please." –Associate Editor Byron Hurd Afeela prototype from Sony Honda Mobility View 11 Photos 3. Afeela by Sony Honda “Ever since Sony showed off an impressively put-together concept car at CES a few years ago, IÂ’ve been anticipating the companyÂ’s next move. Apparently, that next move is “Afeela.” No, I donÂ’t love the name. The specs from SonyÂ’s original concept car give me hope that this prototype sportback (itÂ’s a hatchback!) will be fun to drive, though.
Mazda CX-5 named Japan's Car of The Year, Subaru BR-Z wins "Special Award"
Mon, 03 Dec 2012The Mazda CX-5 stamped its Kodo design and SkyActiv technology authority all over the Japan Car of the Year awards, taking the top prize ahead of the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT 86. It is Mazda's second victory in the last ten years, the 2005 MX-5 claiming the same trophy, and the fourth time the Hiroshima company has won.
The award is decided by 60 local "automotive experts and journalists," and open to any passenger car released in Japan from November 1, 2011 to October 31, 2012 that has sold more than 500 units. Each judge gets 25 votes, his or her top vote getting 10 points, the rest of the points being spread among the judge's choice for the next best four cars.
The second-place getters were the Toyobaru twins with 318 votes, the surprise being they didn't beat or get any closer to the crossover. The Subaru BRZ did claw some mojo back, earning the Special Award given to cars that have made "an exceptional impact." The BMW 3 Series was third overall and won the Import Car of the Year award with plenty of room between it and the second place Range Rover Evoque.
