THE OVERVIEW
Offered for an appreciating new owner is this cool classic 1984 BMW 633CSi E24 "SHARK" with rare 5 speed!
Finished in Delphin grey metallic over black leather, this 99.99% rust-free E24-chassis shark was purchased new here in San Francisco thirty years ago! It spent most of its lifetime here in the bay area in addition to South Carolina. It is being sold with a clean South Carolina title. The non-working six-digit odometer shows just over 225,000 miles. The actual true mileage cannot be 100% verified. This classic 6er
sports an good running 182 horsepower 3.2 liter inline six cylinder engine mated to a RAREand much desireable 5 speed manual transmission with stopping power provided by four-wheel disc brakes. Other noteworthy features of this Bimmer include rare period-correct 16" BBS alloy wheels with fair rubber, older cassette stereo with removeable faceplate, electric windows and sunroof, cruise control and electric leather seating! This 633CSi is a great find for the Bimmerphile or classic car collector for SIGNIFICANTLY less than the cost of the sales tax alone on a new, quickly-depreciating BMW 6 series!

THE BODY AND TRIM
The exterior of this car is in good, nearly perfectly rust-free condition overall. The "delphin" metallic [re]paint still has a nice shine with a few miscellaneous scratches, nicks and blemishes. The bumpers show some typical fading and the wheels would benefit from a deep polish/cleaning or refinish. The tires are fair to poor. I would rate this car a nice "ten-footer" overall.

THE INTERIOR
As I hope is articulated in the many photos here, the interior of this car is in fair to good original condition overall with some heat cracking on the dash, period-correct stereo with removeable face, working electric sunroof and windows, OBC[inop currently], nice leather rear seat, decent headliner and door panels, worn carpeting, tattered driver seat and decent passenger seat with some leather splitting, great heater. Other defects include missing hvac buttons, A/C NOT blowing cold, some electric seat functions inop as is horn. Blinkers and lights all work.

THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
This classic BMW starts, runs and drives fairly well with respectable acceleration from the decent-running 3.2 liter six cylinder engine, smooth shifting/grind-free transmission [shifter bushing have much free play], excellent straight braking with good pedal feel, controlled ride and handling with rattle or clunk-free suspension, quiet exhaust and confident handling with very nice steering feel. Overall this 633CSi still delivers a fairly satisfying driving experience!

Forget about greenlighting it, BMW is already testing the M2

Thu, 08 May 2014

One week ago, we reported, with some skepticism, that BMW had greenlit a car we've been waiting for since the 1 Series M Coupe was discontinued - the M2. Now, we have the first images of that new hotshot underoing testing in Germany.
What's our reasoning here? After all, this just looks like an M235i. Well, that camo is disguising swollen fenders designed to conceal wider tires. Now, these aren't production changes, and it's very likely that the eventual M2's fenders will look quite a bit different. According to our spy, the front fenders have been borrowed from the M235i Racing, while the rears are from an unknown source.
Our spies are also quick to point out a few other high-performance items on this mule. The cross-drilled brakes and blue M calipers are one such item, although we aren't sure how much they differ from the optional stoppers on the production M235i. The black wheels are borrowed from the M3 and M4, and are shod in what look like a sticky set of Michelin tires.

As BMW i3 US launch nears, more details discovered

Thu, May 1 2014

Think of the BMW i3's gas-powered range-extender as akin to driving around with a middle linebacker in the back seat. Except that football player will have a hard time pushing the car 60 miles or so once the battery runs out. Thankfully, he won't prevent you from getting a nifty tax credit either, according to BMWBlog, which isn't affiliated with the company. The i3's front storage compartment is not watertight. Here in the US, where the i3 will be available in short order, BMW will offer an optional i3 plug-in vehicle with a range extender that will have a 1.9-gallon capacity gas tank. That sounds a good deal smaller than the 2.4-gallon tank used in Europe, but the two are actually the same, the US tank is simply limited to the smaller size, Dave Buchko, from BMW's product and technology communications department, told AutoblogGreen. The complete range extender system – including the tank, the engine, and all related hardware – adds about 265 pounds to the 2,634-pound curb weight of the i3 EV and the extra weight in turn adds about a second to the EV's 0-to-60 time of seven seconds flat. Adding the range-extender won't make the US government take any longer to dole out a $7,500 tax credit for the i3, though. We also learned that the i3's front storage compartment is not watertight since it is only meant to hold the mobility kit and the 110-volt charging cord. BMW recently increased its production of the i3 at its German factory from around 70 units a day to about 100 due to better-than-expected demand. Check out our First Drive impressions of the model here.

Senior VP Hildegard Wortmann says BMW's electric journey is just beginning

Fri, Mar 14 2014

Anyone who questions BMW's effort or sincerity on electrified vehicles should have a chat with Hildegard Wortmann, the German automaker's senior vice president over product management for automobiles and aftersales. I was fortunate to do just that at the Detroit North American International Auto Show earlier this year. ABG: Where might BMW go with electrified vehicles beyond your i3 urban EV and i8 high-performance hybrid sports car? "That [regulatory] train has left the station" - Hildegard Wortmann HW: I think a big advantage is that we now have two bookends: BMW i [green] and BMW M [high performance]. We can use those bookends to foster the BMW brand in total. Are electrified vehicles the answer to CAFE and European regulations? Is that the future? We don't know, but that [regulatory] train has left the station. To achieve all of these regulations worldwide, there is no way to do it without electrification. That is why the activities of BMW i are not just to launch new products. They are our build-up in competence for learning and gaining experience in electrification. We will use those learnings for the total BMW brand. Technology-wise, we now have a really good understanding of what to do, what not to do, how to work with this and how to get a lot of learnings from the infrastructure and everything that goes with it. And depending on how quickly the market takes off, we can scale it and use it across the range. We will use the competence we will have in vehicle electrification for more than just BMW i. There will be other derivatives and electrification of other products. ABG: Do you see BMW offering pure EVs with larger batteries for greater range? HW: That's a big feature of the Tesla. The question is to find the best balance [of range vs. battery size, weight and cost]. On the i3, we tried to have the right balance between how much range customers need for daily driving and how much battery we put in there. The market will show us. We have over a million kilometers driven by consumers in the Mini E and ActiveE and a fairly good understanding that those people are not driving that much. Putting a really big battery with all that weight into a car that is meant for urban mobility does not make sense. ABG: What about extended-range EVs beyond the i3's optional small range extender engine? "This whole EV movement is in its very early stages." HW: This whole EV movement is in its very early stages.
