2005 Bmw 645ci Base Coupe 2-door 4.4l on 2040-cars
Denver, Colorado, United States
AOL wrote an excellent review (below) on this model that describes the vehicle perfectly - please read the entire review to know this car. The BMW 6 Series delivers stellar performance, brilliant
handling, and that arrow-like stability that marks this marque. The 6 Series is a true grand touring car,
unique in the BMW line-up, and qualify as an ultimate driving machine, yet can
be driven all day in perfect comfort. They
offer greater luxury and comfort than the Z4 sports car, yet with higher
performance, more agile handling, and sportier styling than the 5 Series sports
sedans. Options on this model include: heated front seats ($500); head-up display
($1,000); the Sport Package ($2,800) adding active steering, 19-inch sport
wheels with run-flat tires, and sport seats; and a Premium Sound Package
($1,800) includes Logic7 audio with six-disc CD changer. Leather upholstery, a choice of rich interior trim, and a
long list of luxury features are standard, including a sports suspension,
18-inch wheels, xenon adaptive headlamps, and park-assist. It comes standard with adaptive headlamps that
aim toward the inside of a corner as the steering wheel is turned. This helps
throw light around bend when cornering, reducing shadows and improving
visibility for the driver. The iDrive system features a big knob mounted on the center
console that controls navigation, the audio system, climate controls, and other
secondary functions. Various functions
can be selected by sliding the big knob left or right, forward or aft, then
turning it like a knob to work through menus displayed on a monitor on the
center stack, and pressing down on the knob to select options. The head-up display projects speed,
navigational information, cruise control status and other data onto the
windshield. The trunk is relatively large and can hold two sets of golf
clubs. The BMW badge on the rear serves as the latch for the trunk. The trunk
lid pops open fully when the button on the remote key fob is pressed. BMW's 4.4-liter V8 delivers 325 horsepower and 330
pound-feet of torque. The 3,781-pound
coupe with the six-speed manual gearbox transmission can accelerate from 0 to
60 mph in 5.5 seconds, according to BMW. The manual gearbox is smooth and precise, easy
to shift, with easy clutch pedal effort; it's lighter than the six-speed used
in the BMW M3. In short, the six-speed
manual is an excellent choice. The
32-valve V8 benefits from Valvetronic variable valve timing and variable lift;
breathing is controlled entirely by the valves. (Technically, there is no
throttle, so the pedal on the right is more accurately called an accelerator.) It's a fascinating engine for engineers and
car buffs with technological marvels such as its Double VANOS steplessly
variable intake- and exhaust-valve timing. But the bottom line is that there's lots of
power throughout the rev range, so the 645Ci responds quickly and precisely in
any situation. It's also an efficient
engine, so energy is not wasted but is instead channeled into fuel-efficient
power. The engine sounds great, emitting
a guttural roar under hard acceleration through its nicely tuned exhaust
system. The 6 Series cars ride lower than the 5 Series. A 645Ci is
absolutely joyful on a winding road. Handling is precise, with a superb
self-centering feel to the steering. It
goes around high-speed turns like it's on rails. It can be driven very hard into tight corners.
The suspension is tuned to minimize
undesirable behavior when braking hard, accelerating hard, or lifting off the
gas while cornering. Active Roll
Stabilization dramatically reduces body roll in cornering. As the car turns corners, the anti-roll bars
are twisted by little hydraulic motors, so the 645Ci leans very little, even in
hard cornering. In addition to
increasing driver confidence, the system improves handling over bumps,
increases cornering capability, and improves steering response. |

Creative minds build lightweight Lambos and Bugattis with cardboard and pedals
Fri, May 1 2020As manufacturers continue their quests to reduce the weight of their vehicles, they switch out heavy steel for lighter materials such as aluminum, carbon fiber, titanium, and sometimes even magnesium. But they've been ignoring a cheap alternative that is widely available: cardboard. Leave it to two visionaries from Vietnam to crack the code and build supercars and superbikes out of the versatile paper product. Vietnamese YouTube channel NHET TV, via CarScoops, might only have a year under its belt, but in that short amount of time, it has amassed more than 350,000 subscribers. What initially started out as a random collection of harmless pranks, trolls, and makeshift time-killers has blossomed into an entertaining channel of ultra-low-budget car and motorcycle builds. The first video posted is a paper plane competition, but the second video shows the first appearance of a vehicle, a Ducati Panigale made out of cardboard and a bicycle. This isn't like Paper Mario with a two-dimensional silhouette, it's a close-enough three-dimensional replica. That project was admittedly pretty rough, but the work has only improved as the channel has matured. Throughout the past year, NHET TV has stuck with high-performance transportation for inspiration. They've built projects that mimic a Lamborghini Sian, a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, a Ferrari LaFerrari FXX K, a Bugatti Chiron, a BMW S 1000 RR, and a Yamaha YZF-R6, among others. Some of the builds, such as the Bugatti, go beyond the typical cardboard-body-on-bicycle-frame. As seen in the video below, the NHET TV built a tubular frame for the car using spare bike parts that they welded together. The Bug even has a custom steering column and steering wheel, though the high-quality model continues to use bike chains and pedals for power. The SVJ might be the most advanced vehicle, as it has a real engine for power and has custom reverse gearing. These guys are creating fun out of the limited resources they do have, and that's what right now is all about. Enjoy the videos below and watch more on the full NHET TV channel.
Autoblog Minute: Nokia to sell Here mapping for $3.1B
Wed, Aug 5 2015In a three company partnership the German automakers BMW, Audi and Daimler are set to take ownership of Nokia's Here mapping technology. Autoblog's Eddie Sabatini reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] In a battle for Nokia's highly coveted mapping technology the auto industry claims victory over Silicon Valley. I'm Eddie Sabatini and this is your Autoblog Minute. In a three company partnership the German automakers BMW, Audi and Daimler are set to take ownership of Nokia's Here mapping technology. The Wall Street Journal writes that the automakers had concerns that the technology might fall under the [00:00:30]control of companies like Google, Uber, or Apple. The purchase, worth a reported 3.1 billion dollars, is still subject to antitrust evaluation before it's finalized; but this early news is already a big win for the German three. Ownership of Nokia's Here tech means that automakers won't lose control of the information systems that go into their cars. The deal, if approved, is expected to close in first quarter of 2016. For Autoblog, I'm Eddie Sabatini. [00:01:00] Autoblog Minute Logo Autoblog Minute is a short-form video news series reporting on all things automotive. Jay Leno puts focus on some retro-inspired BMW bikes
Mon, 28 Jul 2014Jay Leno puts eight wheels on display this week for Jay Leno's Garage from a quartet of retro-inspired BMW motorcycles. They are the creations of husband and wife team Larry and Carol Romestant, who build each one in their home garage.
Larry is a former aerospace engineer who loves BMW bikes, especially the K models. Now, he's combining his passion with a real talent for fabrication to build his own cycles with his wife. With Larry and Carol the only ones working on these projects, it takes them six to nine months to build each one. In addition to the old-school looks, the motorcycles are supposed to be a bit more user friendly than stock. For example, one of them ditches the standard five-speed gearbox in favor of a six-speed unit to be a little more comfy when cruising at high speeds.
Since there isn't enough time to take all four of them for a ride, Jay picks his favorite to test out on the open road. Scroll down to see which one he chooses.
