This BMW is a BEAST! A 1989 535is Dinan turbo with tons of service history, modifications, and recent service and upgrades. You want to drive around in a classic, sporty, reliable BMW, but blow everyone off the road at will? This is the car! It’s truly in mint cosmetic and mechanical condition. A California car since new, it’s been dyno-tuned to approximately 315 crank horsepower. It FLIES under boost. It has tons of tasteful modifications and upgrades, among them electronic boost control, Hamann 18” wheels, a $5K high-level stereo system, Remus exhaust, carbon/Kevlar clutch with lightweight flywheel, authentic BMW M-sport steering wheel, and much much more. This 535is Dinan turbocharged car has been fully inspected and whatever needed to be fixed is fixed; synthetic oil change, Guibo, tune-up, alignment, and more. It needs nothing but a new owner, and looks/drives like an M5 and E55 killer should.

-- Here is your next BMW Sports Sedan on steroids! --

Please let me stop you now if you are looking for a cheap old 535is. This is not that car. This car has thousands, and thousands, and thousands, and THOUSANDS of dollars in upgrades, maintenance, repairs, and modifications. At the same time, it looks fantastic inside and out, and drives like a race car. You really can have it all! Compare this car to ebay item# 151030540732, a 1991 with 4 owners and only 65K miles, but an asking price of over $23,000!!! My car is a killer deal.

Here's the deal:

-- It's a 1989 BMW 535is Dinan Turbo. It is red over black leather and grey carpets. It has 99,xxx miles, looks like a million bucks, and drives like a million bucks too. Just incredible condition for a 1989 car. –

-- Exterior 9 out of 10 (I'm finicky) - Fantastic overall condition paint, body, glass, and trim. No dings, no dents, a few small surface scratches/chips, all of which will be touched-up prior to delivery. This BMW looks amazing, with a deep shine to the glossy red paint that's like looking into a mirror. This car looks great even under fluorescent light in a garage! --

-- Never any accidents, and wears all the original body panels and bumpers. This is a 2-owner car since new, and always in California until 2009! No winters, no snow, no salt (I don't drive it in winter and just took it back out of my garage for the spring). Even the lower side-body moldings are in great shape. Chrome, rubber, glass, trim is all very nice. No oxidation, fade, wear, rust, etc. --

-- Look at the body panels.....they are perfectly straight. --

-- The 18” Falken tires on 18” Hamann polished alloys have about 75% tread remaining. But they are older and should be replaced. At the BIN price, I will install brand new BF Goodrich 245/40/18 performance tires all around. The 18” Hamann wheels are expensive, and true with no bends. There is some clearcoat peel to the wheels, which I will also take care of at the BIN price. The car drives straight as an arrow at any speed you choose. And I mean ANY speed. --

-- Interior 9.9 out of 10 - The black leather interior overall including all seating and door leather, seat padding, dash, console, and carpets are in amazing original condition. No dash cracks, carpet rips, very little wear of any kind on the leather (driver’s bolster shows nearly zero wear). Everything looks and feels new; you can’t even tell anyone has been in the car. No smoking ever. It even SMELLS new inside; the only aroma is that of expensive leather, and nothing else! --

-- The door panels and trim are also in great shape, like the rest of the car. --

-- Even the trunk is perfect. The spare is new and untouched, and the jack and tools are in place. --

-- This car is loaded including leather, power seats/windows/locks, sunroof, and more. Awesome interior modifications include an authentic BMW M-sport steering wheel, M-sport gearshift and e-brake leather stitching, and a high-end Viper alarm system with remote lock/unlock. --

-- This 535is Dinan Turbo also has a killer $5000 stereo system with Kenwood top-of-the-line head unit, dual Kenwood high-power amps, dual 10” subwoofers in a custom enclosure, heavy gauge cable throughout the car, and all speakers upgraded. It sounds fantastic. Please note the amps are mounted permanently, I just lowered them for the photo. -–

-- Electrical 10 out of 10 - All lights, switches, radio, windows, wipers, seat motors/memory, and power mirrors work perfectly. Headrest motors, vacuum lock system, etc. all operating properly. The HVAC system is fast to respond, and perfect with hot heat and ice-cold A/C. --

-- Before you send me an email, please note that I know the high-beams have been removed! This was done for better airflow (mostly to the Dinan intercooler). They are easily replaced, the wiring connectors are still there. If the winning bidder would like, I will replace them. The low-beam headlights are running a 50-watt HID kit (a real one with ballasts, not the dumb purple bulbs). --

-- Mechanically 10 out of 10 - Engine starts, idles, runs, and revs to redline in every gear smooth and strong. The carbon-kevlar clutch is light and smooth (although it grabs and holds for power transfer). The transmission is smooth, all synchros are working fine, and upshuifts/downshifts and crisp. The lightweight flywheel gives revs instantly, and unwinds just as quickly. The car runs at high speed with no vibrations or noises. There are no leaks. This BMW needs to be warmed up for a few minutes before being driven due to the larger injectors, otherwise it will run rich and stumble to catch an idle. It never bothers me and does not take very long, and to be honest a car like this SHOULD be warmed up before being driven anyway. --

-- Engine is SO strong under boost and VERY eager to run, it will rocket you past slower traffic even at lower RPMs. Brakes are solid with upgraded pads and rotors, and pedal feel is firm. Suspension is tight like new, even with the lowering springs and firmer shocks installed. Steering nicely weighted with no play in the box. This car drives and handles like new. --

-- The engine has the full Dinan CARB-approved turbocharger kit with intercooler. It uses a blow-off valve to dump boost when you lift off the throttle. It has a Remus exhaust, and a custom bank of gauges in the center console to monitor all critical engine parameters. The boost can be controlled manually using the Greddy electronic controller hidden in the glovebox. --

-- This BMW 535is Dinan turbo has an absolutely astounding service history, all documented since new. ALL the dealer service. ALL the upgrades and modifications. Even the owner’s manuals for the stereo, the boost controller, and more. All the accessories. It’s all here, five inches thick! The car had a full engine rebuild around 2006 which is when the Dinan kit was installed. So no worries about how long the motor will last. It’s all fresh and runs like a champ. And with only 99K miles, this 535is is not even broken in yet! Full inspection already complete. It needed some odds and ends; guibo, alignment, A/C charge (no leaks), dyno tuning, tune-up, oil change, etc. All you have to do is drive. --

-- At the BIN price, I will provide the following: a new set of 245/40/18 performance tires sitting on the Hamann 18” alloys which I will refinish to like-new condition. A full $200 detailing including engine bay, carpet shampoo, leather conditioning, orbital polishing, etc. I'll also include BMW OEM carpeted floor mats, and BMW touch-up paint. I’ll reinstall the high-beam headlights. And finally, I’ll apply ToughGuard paint protectant. This stuff is simply amazing for durability, as it will last up to five YEARS. Dealers charge up to $695 for this stuff! That’s over $2000 in value included at the BIN price! Wow! --

-- Nits: A few thin scratches/chips that will be touched-up, the missing high-beams, a couple of cluster warning lights due to the headlights and aftermarket gauges. And to run properly, the car must warm up for a few minutes or it will run rich due to the bigger fuel injectors. THAT'S IT. NOTHING ELSE. And if I did not mention those, it's unlikely anyone would even notice...I just want to be up front and honest. That’s an amazingly short list for a 1989 car! --

-- I have good feedback, and sold many Audis, Acuras, and Benzes that the new owners are thrilled with. They and others have offered to act as references to verify that I am honest in my descriptions of the cars I sell, and you are welcome to contact them. --

THIS IS A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME CAR, AND IT'S AN UNBELIEVABLE DEAL!!

The best cars we drove this year

Tue, Dec 30 2014

Six hundred and fifty. That's roughly how many cars pass through the hands of Autoblog editors every year, from the vehicles we test here at home, to the cars we drive on new product launches, testing roundups, long-term cars, and so on. Of course, our individual numbers vary due to several reasons, but at the end of the day, our team's repertoire of automotive experience is indeed vast. But let's be honest, some cars certainly stand out more than others. So as the year's about to turn, and as we're readying brand-new daily cat calendars for our cubicles, our editors are all taking time to reflect on the machinery that made this year so special, with one simple, open-ended question as the guide – a question that we're asked quite frequently, from friends, family, colleagues, and more. "What's the best car you drove this year?" Lamborghini Huracan When I review the list of everything I drove in 2014, picking an absolute favorite becomes almost impossible. I mean, how does one delineate between the joy offered by cars as different as the Alfa Romeo 4C, Volkswagen Golf R, Mercedes-AMG GT S and even the humble-yet-wonderful Chevy Colorado? Okay fine, I'll just pick the Lamborghini. I drove the Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 on a racetrack, in the mountains, and along southern coast of Spain. It felt like the king of the car jungle in all of those places, sucking the eyeballs of observers nearly out of their heads as it drove by, and almost melting my brain with its cocktail of speed and grip and intense communication. It feels a little easy to say that the one new supercar I drove this year was also my favorite, but the fact is that the Huracan is one of the finest cars I've driven during my career, let alone 2014. Judge me if you must. – Seyth Miersma Senior Editor Rolls-Royce Wraith There are a couple of ways to look at the question, "What's the best car you drove this year?" In terms of what was so good I'd go out and buy one tomorrow, that'd be my all-time sweetheart, the Volkswagen GTI. Or if I'm just talking about sheer cool-factor, maybe something like the Galpin GTR1, BMW i8, or Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG. But instead, I'm going to write about the sheer opulence of being the best of the best. The hand-crafted, holier-than-thou, shut-your-mouth-when-I'm-talking-to-you supremacy. I'm picking the Rolls-Royce Wraith. I drove the Wraith for a week in April, and was really, really impressed. This car does everything, perfectly.

2013 BMW R1200GS and HP4 duel at Circuito de Almeria

Wed, 05 Jun 2013

The 2013 BMW HP4 is the track-ready version of the manufacturer's already mighty S1000RR, which puts the bike at the very tip top of the two-wheeled BMW food chain. The R1200GS, meanwhile, is intended to be a somewhat more utilitarian machine. Capable of conveying both rider and gear over vast distances and uncertain terrain, the big-boy GS is the Swiss army knife to the HP4's rapier. Or at least that's what we've always been led to believe. BMW recently rolled out some footage during a press launch that showed the R1200GS is actually no slouch when it comes time to sling around a road course.
The company threw both bikes on Spain's Circuito de Almeria for a little sparring match, and miraculously, the HP4 didn't just up and walk away from the R1200GS. From from it. Instead, the two stay tightly matched through most of the course before something surprising happens. We won't spoil the ending for you. Is it possible the rider on the HP4 still had some in reserve? Sure, but from the sound and look of things, neither bike was giving an inch. Check out all the video action below for yourself.

BMW considering North American engine plant?

Fri, 13 Dec 2013

BMW may be set to expand its US operations with a new engine plant, Bloomberg reports. The Bavarian automaker already has its Spartanburg, SC factory which builds the company's X3, X5 and X6 crossovers. According to the story, Mexico is also under consideration for the BMW engine factory, with the report claiming a final decision will be made in 2014.
"Establishing local motor manufacturing abroad is more complex than assembling cars, but it's a logical step for them to eventually start making engines in markets where they're expanding vehicle production," Juergen Pieper, an analyst for Bankhaus Metzler tells Bloomberg. Building engines in the US or Mexico would save BMW from having to ship engines for some of its most popular models across the Atlantic.
BMW, for its part, hasn't said anything concrete. Spokesman Mathias Schmidt is quoted in the story saying, "As part of our long-term growth strategy, we're frequently looking at different countries for possible locations of future production facilities. No decisions have been made yet, though, for an additional plant."
