2003 BMW 530i

"No Reserve 3 Day Auction"

Up for auction is my 2003 BMW 530i. This is a great car.  I have owned several other 5 series BMWs (525, 533, 535, 528 & the 540), and this one is one of the nicest, fun to drive and reliable, that I have owned.  This is the last year for the E39.

The car has always been garaged.  It has the rare titanium gray metallic paint exterior complimented by a beautiful black leather interior.  The paint looks great as does the interior.  The car handles like its on rails.  It is an absolute pleasure to drive.

This car has the cold weather package - heated seats and steering wheel (my wife's favorite) - it has lots of features - but here are some things I thought I would highlight....
  • Excellent Sound System - CD Player
  • Moon Roof
  • Steptronic Automatic Transmission - you can also use it as a manual (fun to drive)
  • Upgraded Xenon Lights - "Angel Eyes"- See pics - they look great!
  • New front and rear brakes/rotors (installed about 8,000 miles ago)
  • Oil Changes - Always Synthetic - Mobil One
  • No leaks!
  • Pixels - there are a few light pixels on the dash that are out - this has occurred in every 5 series from '97 -'03 that I have ever seen.  It's very common for these cars.  Most are still visible and well lit, but I just wanted to mention it that there are some that are out.
  • Has current PA Inspection
  • Bought rear tires and they have approx 10,000 miles on them, the front have approx 50% tread life remaining.
I have taken a lot of pictures of the car.  Ebay will only let me upload 24 for this auction, but if you are interested, I can email more to you.  The pictures will tell the story for this car.  It looks and it runs great.  I would drive this car across country with no hesitation.

I am only selling her because I need more room for my growing family.  Whoever buys this car is going to love it.

I am a long time ebayer and I know how hard it can be to buy a car online.  What I can tell you is that I am above board about everything.  I've been in that position where I bought a car, the seller was not honest, and then I ended up with a car I may not have bought, had I known the truth.  I would and will not do that to anyone.

With that said, please realize that this is a nice car, but it is an (11) year old car.  Please expect some scratches/nics that are normal for a car of this vintage.

I recommend you come, see and drive the car.  If you have any questions, I can be reached on my cell @ 484-868-1817.

I am in the Philadelphia, Pa area and would be more than willing to meet the buyer at the Philadelphia Airport, hand them the keys and drive her home.

Thanks for looking at the auction and if you decide to bid - bid with confidence.

Recharge Wrap-up: BMW plans for retired batteries; automakers support dual-standard chargers

Sun, Feb 1 2015

Toyota will test hybrids with silicon-carbide (SiC) power semiconductors. In Japan, Toyota has put the SiC power semiconductors into the power control units of a Camry Hybrid prototype and a fuel cell bus for a year-long test. Research suggests the SiC units will decrease electrical losses while managing power supply, thus improving overall powertrain efficiency. Current power semiconductors account for about 20 percent of electrical losses, and success with these tests could mean more efficient hybrids on the roads in the future. Read more at Hybrid Cars. Automakers from CCS and CHAdeMO camps are supporting dual-standard charging station networks. https://www.autoblog.com/bmw/, Volkswagen (CCS camp) and ChargePoint announced plans to build "express charging corridors" by installing about 100 DC fast chargers, many of which will support both types of charging. Kansas City Power & Light is partnering with Nissan (CHAdeMO camp) and ChargePoint to install DC chargers that "will charge any model of electric vehicle on the market." This leads the folks at Green Car Reports to look into whether this ends the looming standard war between automakers in the US. Read more at Green Car Reports. BMW, Bosch and utility company Vattenfall are making plans for a second life for retired BMW i3 batteries. The Second Life Batteries Alliance project will recycle the old lithium ion battery packs - which can still hold a charge - in off-grid storage and grid-stabilization applications, beginning with a grid storage system in Hamburg, Germany. Bosch has created a battery management algorithm to extend the life of the batteries and make sure they don't cause harm to Vattenfall's facilities. Read more at Transport Evolved.

2015 BMW S 1000 RR looks to retain sportbike supremacy

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

The BMW S 1000 RR is already a pretty potent member of the superbike ranks, but BMW is revealing a host of upgrades for this two-wheeled lightning bolt at the Intermot 2014 motorcycle show that should make it even faster.
The biggest additions to the latest 1000 RR are its new cylinder head, lighter valves and different intake cam to tweak even more power from the bike's 1.0-liter, four-cylinder engine, and BMW now rates it at a claimed 196 horsepower (or 199 horses if you go with the European measurement, converted from 146 kilowatts), a boost over the first-gen's 193 ponies, and 83 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed gearbox. Those adjustments would probably be enough to make the cycle a tick faster alone, but the Bavarian engineers also cut 8.82 pounds (4 kg) to bring the motorcycle's weight with a full tank of fuel to a feather-light 450 pounds. Much of that diet comes from the redesigned exhaust that cuts about 6.6 pounds off the scales.
Cradling that tweaked engine is a redesigned, lighter frame with fully adjustable springs. The bike also comes standard with Race ABS, stability control, seven-step variable traction control and three riding modes. In terms of styling, all of these changes are communicated through an updated fairing with repositioned, though still asymmetric, headlights.

BMW V8-powered Ford Model A is the definition of Hot Rod

Thu, 20 Jun 2013

Today, hotrodding has a pretty staid definition. Take one classic American car, add one classic American V8, sprinkle with tire smoke and you pretty much have every hot rod to roll out of a shop in the last 40 years. Mike Borroughs knows it wasn't always this way. Once upon a time, getting your bucket to go faster meant grabbing whatever parts were lazing about the yard, bolting them together with a bit of ingenuity and laughing your way down the quarter mile. It's in that spirit that Burroughs built his 1928 Ford Model A.
Rather than turn to the tired flathead or the common Chevrolet small block, Burroughs plucked a 4.0-liter V8 from a 1995 BMW 7 Series. With 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, the engine has no trouble shuffling the old A around town. He had to build a custom chassis to get everything to cooperate, but the result is a 1,500-pound heathen that looks built to harass dry lake beds. You can check it out in the video below. Be warned, the soundtrack by Hanni el Khatib may not be safe for work - awesomeness of this caliber rarely is.
