Beautiful 2001 540i with LOTS OF EXRAS!!! This is a beautiful example of a 2001 BMW 540i. My wife and I bought this for an around town cruiser for my wife and once the snow hit, she was afraid to drive something that wasnt AWD. We dont have room to keep it, otherwise it would stay... Exterior- The paint and body is in very good condition for a 13 year old car. The front has a few rock chips, but nothing excessive. The car has been clay bar cleaned and buffed to perfection, so the whole car is perfect smooth to the touch. It is a very straight body car, no damage. The windshield isnt cracked and all the other glass is perfect. The headlights have LED rings, and have HID bulbs. SUPER bright at night! The fog lights are SUPER bright and from an X5(I believe), The wheels on this car were powder coated(by previous owner) a very dark root beer brown. So dark, its almost like a metallic black. They are in perfect condition, no curb rash, no bends. The rear tires still have some life left(~5k miles) and the fronts are ready to be replaced. Interior- Overall, I rated the interior very good and that can be seen in person(and pics)! The leather on the seats, doors, armrest, and steering wheel have no cracks or tears. The power seats work great in all directions. The radio works and sounds great, has an original in dash 6 CD changer. It also has an iPod/iPhone(old style connector) connector for connection to your music. The display has a slight dark spot on the left side, but all numbers and letters are completely visible.

BMW mulled ten, eight, and six-cylinder engines for i8 before going hybrid

Wed, 09 Oct 2013

There's little doubt that the 2015 BMW i8 is one of the most radical and groundbreaking performance cars this industry has seen in a long time. From its unique carbon-intensive construction to its 1.5-liter, three-cylinder and electric motor plug-in powertrain to its concept-car appearance, the flagbearer for BMW's new i venture challenges the very notion of what it takes to be a supercar.
Yet apparently the i8 almost didn't do that at all. Yes, it probably still would've had innovative assembly techniques, serious performance and come-hither bodywork, but according to a new report in the Telegraaf, it was very nearly a much more conventional beast, drawing its power from a V10 engine. According to the report, that line of development never got much beyond the drawing board, but BMW engineers then shifted their focus to both V8 and six-cylinder motivation, going so far as to build prototype cars. The higher cylinder-count engines were eventually dropped altogether after BMW decided to turn the i8 into a hybrid, with the six-cylinder reportedly nixed due to heat management and weight issues. In the end, of course, BMW went with the PHEV powertrain that offers a total system output of 362 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque - plenty of thrust for this lightweight, all-wheel drive coupe while still enabling an incredible 94 miles to the gallon on the EU cycle. Regardless of how it turned out, it's still fascinating to think that BMW didn't have a much firmer conceptual idea of what it was after when it started the i8's development.
Here at Autoblog, we're genuinely thrilled about this new generation of greener hybrid super- and hypercars, a movement spearheaded by the i8, Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1. But even so, our inner-gearheads can't help but wonder what might have been had BMW pursued a more conventional i8, either in place of, or in addition to, the car they did build. What do you think? BMW recalls 2016 7 Series because airbags might not deploy

Thu, Apr 14 2016

The Basics: BMW will recall 6,110 units of the 2016 7 Series, including versions of the 740 and 750 models with production dates from July 1, 2015, to December 11, 2015. The Problem: The luxury sedans have an airbag control module that could randomly reset because of an electrical short. If a driver has an accident while the system is resetting, then the airbags might not deploy. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: Dealers will replace the air bag control module. If You Own One: The recall will begin on May 16. Related Video: RECALL Subject : Air Bags may not Deploy due to Residue on Module Report Receipt Date: MAR 25, 2016 NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V173000 Component(s): AIR BAGS Potential Number of Units Affected: 6,110 All Products Associated with this Recall Vehicle Make Model Model Year(s) BMW 740LI 2016 BMW 750LI 2016 BMW 750LXI 2016 Details Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC SUMMARY: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2016 740Li, 750Li, and 750Lxi vehicles manufactured July 1, 2015, to December 11, 2015. The affected vehicles have an air bag control module that may randomly reset due to an electrical short circuit as a result of residual metallic particles from the manufacturing process. CONSEQUENCE: In the event of a crash while the air bag module is resetting, the air bags may not deploy, increasing the risk of occupant injury. REMEDY: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air bag control module, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 16, 2016. Zombie cars: A dozen discontinued vehicles people still buy new

Thu, Jan 6 2022

Car models come and go, but as revealed by monthly sales data, once a car is discontinued, it doesn't just disappear instantly. And in the case of some models, vanishing into obscurity can be a slow, tedious process. That's the case with the 12 cars we have here. All of them have been discontinued, but car companies keep racking up "new" sales with them. There are actually more discontinued cars that are still registering new sales than what we decided to include here. We kept this list to the oldest or otherwise most interesting vehicles still being sold as new, including a supercar. We'll run the list in alphabetical order, starting with *drumroll* ... BMW 6 Series: 55 total sales BMW quietly removed the 6 Series from the U.S. market during the 2019 model year. It had been available in three configurations, a hardtop coupe, a convertible and a sleek four-door coupe-like shape.   BMW i8: 18 total sales We've always had a soft spot for the BMW i8, despite the fact that it never quite fit into a particular category. It was sporty, but nowhere near as fast as similarly-priced competitors. It looked very high-tech and boasted a unique carbon fiber chassis design and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but wasn't really designed for maximum efficiency or maximum performance. Still, the in-betweener was very cool to look at and drive, and 18 buyers took one home over the course of 2021.   Chevy Impala: 750 total sales The Impala represented classic American tastes at a time when American tastes were shifting away from soft-riding sedans with big interior room and trunk space and into higher-riding crossovers. A total of 750 sales were inked last year.   Chrysler 200: 15 total sales The Chrysler 200 was actually a pretty nice sedan, with good looks and decent driving dynamics let down by a lack of roominess, particularly in the back seat. Of course, as we said regarding the Chevy Impala, the number of Americans in the market for sedans is rapidly winding down, and other automakers are following Chrysler's footsteps in canceling their slow-selling four-doors. Even if Chrysler never really found its footing in the ultra-competitive midsize sedan segment, apparently dealerships have a few leftover 2017 200s floating around. And for some reason, 15 buyers decided to sign the dotted line to take one of these aging sedans home last year.
