If you're reading this ad, you're clearly a person of sophisticated tastes. You enjoy the finer things in life. You deserve the best. But you would prefer that it doesn't cost a lot of money.
And that's where I come in. More specifically, that's where the vehicle I'm peddling here on eBay comes in.
We're talking about an automotive legend. We're talking about a 1994 BMW 540i.
A quick bit of history, the '94 BMW 5 series is known internally as an E34 platform, and is known as one of the most reliable cars BMW ever built. The 540i was powered by a 4.0L V8, producing 286hp and 300 ft lbs of torque. This was mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission (or a super-rare 6 speed manual), and was good for a 0-60 sprint in 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 129mph (computer limited).
Anyway, back to this particular 540i. The car is a lovely hunter green over tan leather, has power windows and locks, cruise control, power telescoping steering wheel, power moonroof, cold A/C, and a 6 disc CD changer in the trunk. The body is very solid, no dents. The interior is damn close to being excellent, even the driver's side seat shows very little wear. The rear seat is practically new.
The car has Michelin Pilot tires on it with very good tread on them, the wheels are in excellent condition. The car also carries a RI inspection current through March of 2014, which is always nice. Hell, I could technically even say the car has low mileage, since it's only been driven 11k miles a year and 15k is 'average', but frankly I'd sound like an idiot calling a car with 211k miles 'low mileage'.
The engine runs excellently, smooth and very powerful. Transmission shifts into all gears. The car drives like a BMW...the suspension is taut, the steering is responsive and nicely weighted, the brakes are smooth, and the car tracks nice and straight.
Now there are a few small flaws. That hunter green paint I talked about earlier? It's a little faded in some places. That tan leather interior we fondly discussed? There's a rip on the seam of the driver's side arm rest. Some of the stitching came apart on the steering wheel, there's a little bit of rust on the hood, and another little spot ahead of the right rear wheel well. And that's really about it.
I'm not asking much for this fine German automobile. My reserve is well under $1800, so bid it up and get it out of my driveway.
Let me know if you have any questions, or want pictures of a particular part of the car.
You're welcome.

BMW recalling 1 Series ActiveE over bad drivetrain housing
Wed, 30 Jan 2013There are always growing pains when automakers introduce new technologies. BMW is learning this with the electric powetrain used on the 2011 BMW ActiveE. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about half of the all-electric 1 Series coupes currently in the hands of the public are being recalled for a potential problem that could leave the cars stranded.
With 700 ActiveE models running around the US, 360 of these cars have insufficient sealing between the electric motor and transmission, which could lead to premature wear to the connection between the two, which in turn could result in a loss of propulsion. BMW started notifying affected owners by phone earlier this month.
While no automaker wants a recall on its hands, it's much better for BMW to learn such a lesson now on the low-production, lease-only ActiveE ahead of the car's successor, the BMW i3, which is expected to be a much higher-volume EV. Scroll down for the official recall notification.

Autoblog Minute: UAW and FCA avoid strike, Clarkson teases new show
Fri, Oct 9 2015FCA avoids a worker strike, a former Top Gear host teases us with a picture from Amazon's new car show, and Toyota predicts autonomous cars by 2020. Autoblog senior editor Greg Migliore reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute Weekly Recap. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] FCA avoids a worker strike, a former Top Gear host teases us with a picture from Amazon's new car show, and Toyota predicts autonomous cars by 2020. I'm senior editor Greg Migliore and this is your Autoblog Minute Weekly Recap. A UAW strike of FCA was avoided thanks to a zero-hour tentative agreement reached this week. Worker concerns that were renegotiated in the new [00:00:30] deal include adjustments to the two-tier wage scale, health care costs, and production outsourcing. Now check-in with Autoblog as we update our reports on this evolving story. Shooting began on Amazon Prime's new automotive show starring the former Top Gear crew. That's Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. Now Clarkson threw out a tweet from day one of filming on location at Algarve Motor Park in Portugal. The picture features the show's [00:01:00] three stars and crew posing with the holy trinity of hyper cars. That's a McLaren P1, a Ferrari LaFerrari, and a Porsche 918 Spyder. This Prime show is being called Gear Knobs though the name is unofficial. Now if a tweet is any indication of what we can expect, who cares what it's called this is gonna be awesome. (Eds Note: Clarkson tweeted Friday that the show will not be called Gear Knobs.) Toyota predicts drivers could be obsolete on highways as early as 2020, with technology dubbed the Toyota Highway Teammate or THT. Toyota is using a modified [00:01:30] Lexus GS to show what this is capable of. THT is already able to create a driverless freeway car that's capable of changing lanes, making passes and taking curves. Plus, it can keep safe distances from other vehicles. Toyota is currently testing this on Tokyo's Shuto Expressway. Those are the highlights from the week that was. Be sure to check out my full recap this Saturday. And I'll have some added insight on the BMW M4 GTS. For Autoblog, I'm Greg Migliore. [00:02:00] Show Logo Autoblog Minute is a short-form video news series reporting on all things automotive.
