1981 Bmw 528i Sedan E12 At Clean California Car Well Maintained Needs Nothing on 2040-cars

I am offering this very rare 1981 BMW 528i automobile for sale. 1981 was the last year for BMWs based on the E12 chassis, otherwise known as the "First Fives". This series was the first generation of this long-lived category of executive sedans. The 1979-1981 models resolved the problems of the earlier Bavaria 2800 and 3.0 models- which had problems with over-heating and a lack of power due to BMW's difficulty in meeting US emissions standards. The 1979-1981 models featured Bosch Jet-tronic fuel injection and met tough emissions standards using just a catalytic converter. I purchased this car from the estate of the original owner in Oakland, California a few years ago. The car has been garaged most of its 33 years, as evidenced by the crack-free dash, which is extremely unusual for a car of this vintage. Since I purchased it, I have repaired or restored nearly everything on the car which was not operable or usable as is. Here is a detailed summary of the condition of the car, and what repairs or improvements have been made to it by myself or under my direction: Body:The car is finished in Henna Red, with a simulated tan leather interior. The paint is excellent, except for a few areas I will note. The paint on the hood has eggshell checks, and a 12" circle of blistering. The trunk has a few minor surface scratches which disappear temporarily when waxed. The driver's door shows sign of minor bodywork many years ago. There is a tiny (less than 1/2") bubble on the passenger side windshield pillar. The bumper on the front drivers side corner has been pushed back very slightly under the rubber cover. All glass is excellent except for a scuff on the drivers side of the windshield caused by a failing wiper blade, and a short scuff on the passengers side window caused by a damaged window mechanism, now repaired. The paint under the hood and the engine compartment have been cleaned and are completely original. Interior: Excellent condition overall-original upholstery clean and tight with no cracks or splits. Both front bottom cushions have been professionally re-padded making for very comfortable seating. The headliner, dash, carpeting, and door panels are all excellent, except for the drivers door; which has scratches on the bottom of the door panel, and slight deterioration of a small part of the simulated wood trim. An Alpine FM/AM/CD player has been installed, with all 4 original speakers sounding great. The sunroof opens smoothly and quietly, and seals tight as a drum. Mechanical: The M30 straight six engine runs strong, smooth, and quietly. The engine runs cool as a cucumber, with no coolant loss whatsoever The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and positively, with clean fluid. The power steering pump has been replaced, and the car drives tight and true. All 4 power windows operate as new, as do the power door locks. The AC blows cold with a freshly rebuilt compressor, and the AC condenser fan was replaced. The brakes have been thoroughly gone through, and stop on a dime. The exhaust system was completely replaced with a BOSAL brand original type system, and it purrs like a BMW should. The tires are near new Michelin Primacy 195 70R 14s. The hubcaps have all been restored with new genuine BMW emblems. This car is completely reliable, and runs extremely well, considering it is 33 years old. There is a slow current drain on the battery, so a disconnect switch has been installed to prevent slow discharge. The odometer works sporadically, which is a nearly universal problem with older BMWs. Replacing 3 small gears at a parts and labor cost of under $200 will solve the odometer problem for another 25 years. I feel confident that this car could be driven cross country without any problems. The car is located in the hills of Berkeley, California, directly east of San Francisco. I have painstakingly attended to nearly every flaw on this low mileage pampered, and totally original car. From my years of driving it in the Bay Area, I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere in the United States. I am offering it for sale due to limited storage space, and having one too many automobiles. I have described it as honestly and completely as I can, but obviously, it is sold as is. I have priced it at what I think is fair considering its rarity and condition. You may contact me by phone at 510-524-4028, if you would like more details or to discuss transaction specifics. |

2014 BMW 5 Series starts at $50,425* and gets a new diesel, 5 Series GT starts at $60,925* [w/video]
Sun, 19 May 2013BMW itself says it is making "Precise modifications to the design" of the facelifted, sixth-generation 5 Series, and this is the result. The 2014 5 Series will come in four flavors - sedan, Touring, Gran Turismo and ActiveHybrid 5 - the biggest news probably the addition of a diesel engine for the US market.
When they go on sale in August, the 528i sedan will start at $50,425, a $1,700 increase over the 2013 model, and if you want xDrive that adds $2,300 to the price across the model range. The 535d employs a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six-cylinder diesel with 255 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque and starts at $56,025. BMW portends "substantial fuel efficiency gains over its gasoline-fueled counterpart," but the exact numbers won't come until closer to the on-sale date. The $64,825, top-dog 550i holds pat with 4.4-liter, twin turbo V8, with output upped to 445 hp and 480 lb-ft - an increase of 45 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque. The outputs haven't changed on the twin-turbo four-cylinder in the 528 nor the 3.0-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine in the 535, and *all prices include the $925 destination charge. The engines are also fitted with a coasting mode that uncouples the powertrain when rolling downhill.
Outside there are new "contour lines" for the grille and air intakes, slimmer taillights and elements that accentuate the car's width - as if that were necessary. Xenon adaptive headlights will be standard along with side indicator lights on the rearview mirrors, the options list adds LED headlights, the Luxury Line and Modern Line packages. The former package adds chrome trim to certain exterior elements, the latter adds matte chrome trim.
Bimmerfest puts BMW's heritage on display and in motion
Wed, Jun 8 2016The typical Memorial Day weekend is celebrated with family and friends and plenty of food, but for thousands of BMW fans it was spent at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA, for the 17th annual Bimmerfest. The event expanded significantly in the last few years with a move to the massive racetrack complex outside Los Angeles in 2016, and a second day was added this year. The celebration of the Roundel is the largest of its kind, boasting 4,000 cars and 10,000 people in attendance. There's something for just about every type of owner. For those wanting serious time behind the wheel, the oval and road course were open to hot laps, and there was the Bimmer Challenge race from Speed Ventures. An autocross course was set up in an adjacent parking lot. Those wanting to compete in less dynamic fashion had a Battle of the Bimmers car show, and the Heritage Corral and Centennial Corral put the century-long history of the brand on display. Perhaps our favorite part of the event was the BMW Fan Zone display, which showcased a few of the company's most iconic contemporary racecars. A V8-powered 2001 BMW M3 GTR and a McLaren F1 GTR sporting a BMW-developed V12 provided some fond memories of their historic on-track endeavors. If you missed Bimmerfest 2016 then you can check out our massive photo gallery above, and for those of you on the East Coast there will be a Bimmerfest East at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ, from July 30-31. Here's why you don't want the 2016 BMW M4 Clubsport
Thu, Apr 7 2016BMW Spain recently announced a special-edition M4 Competition Sport. It's billed as a more comfortable version of the M4 GTS (including rear seats) and, with only 60 copies available, will be more rare than that hardcore M4. But hold on a second because the CS is not exactly the unicorn it appears to be. And the closest thing to a CS in the United States might be better. Here's why. The M4 Competition Sport comes with more power, 20-inch wheels, and adaptive M chassis. The twin-turbo six has been turned up to 444 horsepower, which is shy of the crazy 493-hp water-injection version from the GTS. In fact, it's the same power you get with the $5,500 Competition Package that BMW USA announced back in January. And our Competition Package also comes with the wheels and M chassis setup. View 38 Photos We concede one area where the M4 CS does earn our envy. The giant carbon wing on the back and various other carbon-fiber elements do look pretty great, although tacking them on likely does not reduce the vehicle's weight. They're also all available from the vast M Performance catalog, so you could buy an M4 and tack on whichever ones you like best. Lucky Spanish customers also get carbon-ceramic brakes, but we can order those as a standalone option for $8,150. And the M4 CS only comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Here in the States you can order all those goodies with a manual. Each of the 60 M4 Competition Sport coupes will sell for 132,900 euros in Spain, which works out to about a 45 percent markup compared to a standard-issue M4 coupe. So no, we don't get the numbered plaque on the center console or the neat seats. But we do get all the rest of it, with a manual, and at a much lower price than the Spanish M4 CS. And you can get the same stuff in the four-door M3. U-S-A! U-S-A! Related Video: Related Gallery 2016 BMW M4 GTS View 65 Photos BMW Coupe Performance bmw m4 bmw m4 gts
