This auction is for an extremely rare 5 speed manual limited slip differential 1980 BMW 528i project car. This car does need some work before putting it back on the road, so it should be towed away, not driven any long distances. First off this is a great low mileage project car that does not need that much to make it awesome. I purchased it about two years ago and I have done a lot of repairs to it, to get it roadworthy again. The car does currently run and starts right up but I believe one of the valves is slightly bent producing a clicking noise in the engine. I do have the original title for the car that has been written out to me in the buyers section, but I never titled the car because in Georgia cars more than 25 years old don't require titles. The original title and a Bill of Sale will be provided to new owner.

There is very little rust on this car, there were a few spots, but I welded in new steel in those areas to seal everything up. I installed new brembo front brake rotors, new pads, and a new caliper as well. The transmission shift well, and the car actually handles pretty good. The tires all have good tread but they are getting old and starting to crack a bit.

The interior is in good shape, but much of the seat stuffing foam has deteriorated as is common on these cars. There is only one small crack on the dash and most of the real wood trim looks good. The car does only have 63,000 miles on it. The sunroof works and some of the windows, but because the car has sat for so long some of the switches are not functional, This will need to be gone through to check connections, etc. to get everything working 100%, but should be minor problems as no wires are cut or anything like that.

The body overall looks great, though there are some small dents and chips here and then, and on the trunk lid someone ruined the clear coat be putting brake fluid on it. Otherwise the paint shines great and is relatively clear. This would not be a show car but it is good driver quality paint.

The major problem with the car is with the engine, I had been re-doing most of the engine area, starting with a rebuilt head. Unfortunately my machine shop failed to notice what I assume is a slightly bent valve. And now once we put it all back together the engine has a clicking noise in one cylinder. The engine otherwise runs good and does not overheat. Here is a list of upgraded parts in the engine bay.

1. Rebuilt head with modified rocker arms, stronger than factory....unfortunately one slightly bent valve will need to be replaced.

2. Silicone hoses

3. 2002tii intake runners for increased power

4. Sandblasted valve cover and intake repainted silver

5. New Spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs

6. New belts

7. New exhaust studs

I am sure there are a lot of other things I am forgetting...

Again this will make a great project for someone, and I have spent much more than I am trying to sell it for. I just don't have time to keep going on this one. I had intened to make it into an M535i replica, maybe the next guy or gal...

I will include many spare parts with the car as well, and I have some rare performance parts that I will sell separately, like a Kamei front spoiler, an exhaust header, and 15 inch BMW deep dish alloy wheels. Let me know if you have any interest in those as well.

Lastly, this is not a perfect car but it is far from a parts car as well, with a little work this could be a reliable driver or an awesome performance sedan...Thanks for bidding!

There is no battery with this car, if you do not have one with you I can put one of mine in to load it up, but it is not included with this sale, if shipping I can install a new one for you at your cost for the new battery.

BMW X4 M probably not in the cards

Thu, 26 Sep 2013

BMW is preparing to exploit its latest market niche - those that find themselves unable to choose between the 3 Series, 4 Series and X3 - with the X4. If you're looking for an M product, though, you'll remain limited to the 3 and 4 Series. BMW's Bernhard Ederer, at the Australian launch of the X5, told Car Advice he wouldn't "bet on it," when asked about a hotter X4.
Oddly, Ederer's reasoning, according to the Aussies, is out of concern for the X6 M, whose sales the X4 M would apparently cannibalize. That's like saying the M3 doesn't make sense because it will cannibalize M5 sales - the logic just doesn't really hold up. "The question is what customers are we talking to? And are we talking to someone that is willing and able to afford [an X6 M]?" Ederer told Car Advice.
Car Advice seems to feel the same way, claiming the X3-based X4 will share its powertrains with its donor platform, and will eventually spawn an M variant, albeit a few years down the line.

Mini might build a sedan because it's running out of shapes

Wed, Apr 13 2016

Rumors suggest we could soon see a Mini with a trunk to haul your junk. Autocar cites unnamed insiders who claim the sedan is part of the brand's plan for upmarket growth. There's even a possibility the new model could use the Riley moniker in reference to the Elf (pictured above) from the 1960s, which was a Mini with a tiny trunk. The Mini sedan would use BMW's front-wheel-drive platform that underpins the X1 and Clubman and might share the wheelbase and frontend styling with the Clubman as well, according to Autocar. Mini's execs think the four-door would perform especially well in North America and China, where there's less demand for hatchbacks. Ralph Mahler, vice president of Mini's product management, hinted at the possibility of the four-door to Autocar. "For example, in Asia and the US, the sedan segment is very big. This is very interesting to us, of course," he said. Mahler admits that many people don't know about the Mini-based vehicles with trunks from the '60s, like the Riley Elf, so it would be hard to market the new model on that heritage. This could be the perfect time to add a Mini sedan to the lineup, and it might not be a completely new idea for the brand under its BMW stewardship; a rumor from 2012 shows that Mini's bosses considered a four-door at least once before. The company launched new versions of its Hardtop, Convertible, and Clubman, and even added four-door and all-wheel-drive versions of the Hardtop to further blur the lines between that car, the Clubman, and the Countryman. The next-generation Countryman crossover should debut later this year, and the brand reportedly cancelled the Superleggera Vision roadster and Rocketman compact, as Mini has chosen to go big with its new models and its lineup breadth. There are only so many versions of a hatchback a company can make, and the short-lived Mini Coupe wasn't exactly a huge success. If Mini is going to try a new body style, a sedan actually makes some sense, even if we'll probably prefer the look and practicality of the hatches. Related Video:

Six 'shut up and take my money' cars

Tue, 11 Nov 2014

Any time you see this iconic moment in pop culture - Shut up and take my money! - posted in response to a new car reveal, rumor for an upcoming model or even lip-service to a vehicle that should exist, you can bet there's some intrinsic good in the idea. Though depending on the person offering up the cash, that good could take the form of extraordinary form, functionality, weight savings, power, handling, etc. You get the idea.
In fact, when I first proposed this list, I reached out to the Autoblog staff to help me brainstorm. Here are some of the ideas they offered up that I ultimately didn't use: Jaguar XE Coupe, Pagani Huayra Roadster, Mercedes-Benz S-Class "parade car" (cabriolet), Morgan 3-Wheeler with Ducati V-twin, Ford Transit Connectamino (pickup), Mercedes CLA63 AMG, Ford Fusion 5.0, BMW i8 Spyder, Lexus RC-F Shooting Brake, Volvo XC90 Polestar. Oh, and things we collectively wanted to stick Dodge's Hellcat in were almost as numerous as models that Fiat Chrysler Automotive currently makes (though none quite so compelling as the Grand Cherokee you see above.)
Ultimately though, while I used a couple of ideas from my colleagues, the list of cars I'd shell out for unquestionably is very personal. Though it isn't complete, what follows is a selection of cars whose very existence would prompt me - or the trust-fund-baby versions of me - to utter without hesitation: "Shut up and take my money."
