Cadillac ATS-V and Mercedes-AMG C63 S pitted Head to Head

Our favorite (and only) Autoblog-alum-turned-Motor Trend staffer is back with another Head to Head video, this time pitting the Cadillac ATS-V with the Mercedes-AMG C63 S. This performance machine shootout is ostensibly a way to figure out which of these new super sedans will earn the right to go toe-to-toe with the undisputed champion of its segment, the BMW M3. In reality, it's just a really good excuse to put three of the hottest sedans on the market on video at the same time... and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. Jonny Lieberman spends time in each of the two new challengers on the road, picking apart their powertrains, chassis and driving dynamics on the kinds of twisty roads drivers of these cars will relish. Then, he hands the keys off to Randy Pobst, who sort of acts as an unmasked version of a certain tame racing driver, except that he talks and has a personality. 0-60 and quarter-mile times are equated, braking performance is measured and scores are tallied before the two sport sedans end up at Willow Springs raceway. Interestingly enough, the car that proves (just slightly) faster at the race track isn't the car that wins the comparison. Curious? We're not going to spoil it for you. Check out the video, above. BMW teases 2 Series Coupe ahead of October 25 debut

Although it was finally just confirmed that the last of the BMW 1 Series coupes and convertibles went out of production months ago, we won't have to wait very long to see this model's replacement, the all-new 2 Series. BMW released a teaser video for its new coupe today and also announced that the 2 Series will officially debut on October 25.
We may still have to wait until the Detroit Auto Show to see it up close and in person, even though both the Los Angeles Auto Show and Tokyo Motor Show are nearly upon us. Either way, it's not clear when the 2 Series will roll into dealerships. Considering we've already seen the coupe sitting out mostly undisguised for a photo shoot, there really isn't much to see in terms of styling of the car in this sun-drenched, dirt-slinging teaser. BMW does say that this is the first trailer ahead of the 2 Series' unveiling, so there are likely to be more to follow the video seen below.

BMW revisits its 8 Series

So why would BMW choose July 2 to release a retrospective on the 8 Series? Could it have something to do with the recent unveiling of the Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe concept, another sleek, B-pillarless V12 two-door, at this year's Villa d'Este? We have no idea, but the timing is likely coincidental.
This three-minute look at the 8 Series talks to Niels Hamann, who was smitten with the long-hooded coupe when it appeared in 1989 and finally bought one in 2004. Hamann also happens to be a project manager at BMW, and that came in handy when he wrote a book detailing every aspect of what was BMW's flagship for ten years but to the chagrin of many only managed one generation.
