Offered for sale is a gorgeous, virtually flawless, completely original 2012 BMW 550i with just 20,586 miles and finished in lustrous Titanium Silver Metallic over luxurious Black Dakota Leather with Anthracite Wood Trim.  Borrowing significantly from BMW’s new 7-series, BMW’s latest generation of the iconic 5-series sedan offers many of the finer appointments of its more sophisticated big brother while retaining the sleeker, more agile frame 5-series drivers have long cherished.  Purchased new and always garaged and maintained by its current owner, the car is being sold with the remainder of its 4-year / 50,000 mile factory warranty.

Harkening back to an earlier time when BMWs shared a cleaner, more unified look across the model range, Adrian Von Hooydonk’s new F10 5-series is defined by crisp, muscular lines complemented by a low, aggressive nose with signature dual kidney grills.  This car’s subtle and sleek Titanium Silver Metallic body remains completely original and nearly showroom flawless, marred only a few negligible paint chips that one would expect on a gently used, well loved car, none of which are distinguishable in the photographs.

While clearly a performance machine on the outside, the interior cabin has witnessed nearly a complete overhaul.  No longer a mid-level sedan, the spacious cabin, high cowl, multiple interfaces and luxurious appointments make the car feel as if it's a 7 Series Lite.  Driver and co-pilot are greeted by BMW’s optional 18-way heated, power seats and presented with the sweeping dash featuring both BMW’s traditional analogue instrument cluster and optional heads-up display, flanked by an intuitive center control screen utilizing BMW’s updated iDrive interface system on the center console.  BMW has made great strides in improving iDrive from previous version with a simpler more direct menu system, and has also included redundant controls for the audio system and climate controls in-dash just below the navigation screen.

Although the complete list of features on this car would be too long to list, in addition to BMW’s exhaustive set of standard features this car also includes:

  •          Convenience Package with Comfort Access System and automatic door closing
  •          Sport Package with leather trimmed steering wheel, shadowline exterior trim, increased speed limiter and selectable dynamic suspension
  •          Driver Assistance Package including adaptive xenon headlights, optional heads-up display, active blind spot detection signaling, lane departure warning system, collision warning system, and front, side and rear-view cameras
  •          Cold Weather Package with heated rear seats, steering wheel, and headlight washers
  •          Professional Sound and Navigation System featuring voice control, SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Bluetooth mobile phone and media integration (iPhone, Blackberry and Android) via BMW Apps, and a variety USB and auxiliary inputs.

Mechanically the car is in excellent condition.  Although the F10 is larger than its E61 predecessor, its performance numbers are nearly identical.  Continuing BMW’s legendary driving performance, the F10’s 4.4-litre, 400bhp, twin-turbo V-8 with 8-speed STEPTRONIC automatic transmission catapults the car from 0 to 60 mph in a quick 5 seconds continuing to 100 mph in a mere 11.4 seconds (for those sportier drivers, the quarter mile will take you approximately 13.5 seconds at 106.8 mph).  The car has always received the manufacturer’s suggested maintenance at BMW dealerships and is entirely turn-key and ready to be driven.

Whether you’re specifically in the market for a gently used 5-Series, or you’re just looking for an exceptionally comfortable, well engineered, performance oriented driving machine, this car deserves your serious consideration.

2020 Lamborghini Huracan Evo has the biggest price discount in America

Thu, Apr 9 2020

Right now, buyers of the 2020 Lamborghini Huracan Evo are paying an average of $248,000 to drive the brand-new supercar off the dealer lot. That's a hefty chunk of change, but it represents $16,269 off the car's average $264,969 retail price, according to data provided to Autoblog by Truecar. That's the largest discount in America on a new vehicle for the month of April, 2020 when judged by the dollar amount in savings off the sticker. It's not all that uncommon to see a lot of money taken off the sticker price of expensive luxury cars. This month, right behind the Lamborghini sits the 2019 BMW 8 Series with a few bucks shy of $11,000 in savings, which is hardly surprising. Though it's a very sleek and entertaining car in some of its various incarnations, it hasn't exactly proven to be a hot seller for the German automaker. The fact that there are a total of 15 (!) possible configurations probably doesn't help. Two other BMWs, the 2020 7 Series ($10,164 in savings) and the 2019 i8 ($10,145) are also on the top 10 biggest discounts list. In between that BMW sandwich are the 2019 and 2020 editions of the Acura NSX. It doesn't really matter which one a buyer chooses to drive off the lot, either way lopping off more than $10,000 off the sticker price means the electrified supercar will cost just under $150k. For a look at the best new car deals in America based on the percentage discount off their suggested asking prices, check out our monthly recap here. BMW confirms new Mexican plant

Thu, 03 Jul 2014

After over a year of speculation, BMW is finally officially announcing that it's building a factory in Mexico. The new plant will cost the German automaker roughly $1 billion US and will have a capacity of about 150,000 vehicles a year when complete. However, production won't begin there until 2019.
The new factory is being built near the city of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, with plans to employ about 1,500 people. Unfortunately, BMW is still mum about which models it's producing south of the border. Earlier rumors indicated the possibility of the 3 Series, 1 Series and maybe even Mini models there.
BMW says Mexico's multiple free trade agreements are a major factor in the choice of location of the plant. They make it possible for the automaker to ship models more cheaply to North America, parts of South America and the European Union. "The Americas are among the most important growth markets for the BMW Group. We are continuing our strategy of 'production follows the market,'" said Harald Krueger, the board's head of production, in the company's official announcement.

Did Lexus make a BMW? Or did BMW make a Lexus? This and other 2017 surprises

Fri, Dec 29 2017

It's that time of year again. The calendar is about to reach its end, Star Trek Cats 2018 is about to take its place, and I'm reflecting about all the cars that graced my driveway this year or summoned me to exotic places. You know, like Stuttgart or Phoenix. In 2017, I drove at least 57, and as I perused the list of them, I started to notice a common refrain: "This car surprised me." Most were pleasant surprises, but there were a few head scratchers and facepalms for good measure. In both cases, it was generally the result of car companies seemingly trying to break out of an existing mold. Nowhere was that more apparent than the pair of Lexuses slathered in Infrared paint: The LS 500 that left me this week and the LC 500 that was my favorite car of 2017. Though Lexus has been trying to shake its crusty, gold-packaged reputation for some time now, its efforts always seemed like an old man choosing Hollister to redo his wardrobe after realizing it hasn't been updated since 1987. I fell in love with the LC, genuinely floored by its near-perfect take on the GT. It's characterful in sound, appearance and tactility. It was at home in the city, in the mountain and on the open road. It was both comfortable and thrilling, and after driving the mechanically related LS 500, I can report that the LC's talents aren't an outlier. The LS 500's turbo V6 may make different noises than the LC's naturally aspirated V8, but it nevertheless invigorates the cabin when the car is placed in Sport+ mode. The steering is truly communicative, body motions are kept in miraculous check, and I absolutely forgot I was in an enormous luxury limo ... and a Lexus one at that. It was everything that the BMW 530e was not. I drove that on the exact same roads and was utterly bored the entire time. Generally doughy, lifeless steering, more distant than Planet 9. And no, the plug-in hybrid powertrain had nothing to do with that. At least it shouldn't. The Porsche Panamera S e-Hybrid I also drove this year proves that, as do the Hyundai Ioniqs, which are surprisingly adept and fun little cars regardless of what powers their wheels (Hyundai + hybrid = fun really blew me away). I would drive that Lexus LS F Sport over the BMW 5 Series any day of the week, which seems like a shocking thing to say in relation to either car. While Lexus is seemingly breaking out of its old crusty mold, BMW seems to be climbing into one.
