Great maintenance history, all new tires and brakes, lots of preventive work completed."

Very clean BMW 2006 530i.  This is a very attractive black on tan leather interior color combo, that is very popular.

This was a BMW CPO car (we are are the second owners) that included maintenance and repairs to 100k miles.  It has been very well maintained.  The positives:

  • Four brand new tires (<1k miles on them), tread on all 4 is similar to what is shown (as in, brand new).
  • New front brakes (<2k miles on them) with about 30-40k miles left on them.  Rear brakes were replaced about 10k miles ago, and still have 20-30k miles on them.
  • Slightly tinted windows, as seen in the pictures.
  • If you don't know these cars, DO NOT buy one approaching or over 100,000k miles that has NOT had the cooling system completely replaced.  This is a common failure that can strand you.  At about 90k miles, the electronic water pump was replaced under CPO warranty on this car.  At about 105k miles, I learned of this as a common issue (because my X5, with the same engine, had an issue), so I replaced everything else - all belts, hoses, electric cooling fan, and the coolant reservoir tank (which can leak and cause problems).  None of these items had failed, but I know this as a common issue, so I proactively replaced it all.
  • It is in great shape under the hood.  With free maintenance to 100k, all services, maintenance, and everything else was done.  For the last 18k miles, I have done it all myself, including the above items and oil changes.
  • The car has a Sirius XM unit installed in the trunk, but I never activated it through the Host bus system (requires a dealer or indy repair shop programming).  My wife was never interested in it, so I never activated it.  I bought the unit, installed it, and then never did anything with it.  It's there, if you are interested in activating it, but it has not been programmed.
  • All functions work properly.  This car drives smoothly, shifts well, and looks great.  The Steptronic transmission is a lot of fun to drive in manual mode, and works flawlessly.  It's great for a little extra power to pass or on hills.
  • The handsfree Bluetooth calling feature is great - I use that frequently.
  • Leather seating is in very good shape - no worn spots or tears.  Weird greenish color in the front seat picture was the way the sun was coming through the windshield.
  • Gas mileage on this car is really good - mid-20's in the City, and 30+ on the highway.
  • I am into pro-active maintenance, and do most work myself on my 3 BMW's, and the 3 I've had before the current ones.  I am usually a step ahead, and this car is no exception.

I didn't put much effort into cleaning it for the photos - it is just clean and well maintained.  It is a terrific daily driver.  The way you see it in the pictures is the way it always looks - I didn't even wash it prior to taking the pictures.

I have bought and sold cars before on eBay, so bid with confidence.  Please check our feedback.

Pre-sale inspections can be arranged if you're local.  Reserve price is reasonable, and is set below Kelly Blue Book value.

The negatives:

  • there is a small door ding in the driver's side rear door, as pictured.  Very hard to see in the picture, I know, but it's not too noticeable in real life either.
  • there is a small rock chip from freeway driving on the windshield, as shown.  I can have the windshield repaired or replaced by my insurance company prior to you picking up the car.  Some folks are freaky after windshield replacements (though this is small, and may only be a quick repair), so I thought I would disclose it, and give you the option. We will decide how you want that handled after auction end.

Any questions at all, please ask.

As you can see from my history and feedback, I've been on eBay a long time, with an established track record.  I have also bought and sold cars here before (2 Jaguars), so please feel confident.  If you have any questions, please ask, and I'll get right back to you.

I strive for 5-star service.  You won't be disappointed with this car.  Thanks for looking!

Final note:  actual miles may vary, as I may drive this car on occasion for local errands prior to auction end.

Audi to spend $17 billion to fight BMW

Sat, 29 Dec 2012

It's no secret that VW Group, parent company to not only Volkswagen but also Audi, Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche and Ducati brands sold in the US, is determined to become the world's largest automaker. Even more impressive is that VW is prepared to spend billions to make it happen.
With that comes word that VW Group will be spending $17 billion on its Audi brand over the next three years to push itself above rival BMW. The money will be invested in both vehicle development (including lightweight auto design and alternative powertrains) and facilities (including expansion in Hungary, China and new operations in Mexico). The luxury brand is focused on global manufacturing infrastructure.
Already Europe's best-selling luxury brand, Audi's objective is to overtake BMW by the end of the decade by selling more than two million cars per year (BMW is shooting for 1.54 million sales in 2013). If those objectives are met, VW Group should be on track to be the industry's volume leader by 2018.

Forza Horizon 3 adds Ford Police Interceptor, Jeep CJ5

Tue, Oct 4 2016

We're only a few weeks past the debut of Forza Horizon 3, and already the folks at Turn 10 are introducing the first of six car packs for the open-world driving game. Focused heavily on performance, there are still a few, um, oddballs, including one we're sure Forza's livery customizers will have a blast with. The Smoking Tire Car Pack brings seven new vehicles to FH3, with the Aston Martin Vulcan, Pagani Huayra BC, GTA Spano, Lotus 340R, and BMW M2 repping traditional performance vehicles. As per usual, FH3 renders each car beautifully and promises a solid approximation of real-world performance – even if you do ditch the roads and opt to rampage through the Australian countryside. While performance is good, the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and the Jeep CJ5 Renegade bring an off-beat vibe to this particular pack. We aren't certain, but this might be the first time the Police Interceptor appears in a blockbuster driving game. While we expect plenty of police car liveries for the Crown Vic, Forza's rabid community of tuners and customizers are sure to do much more with it. As for the CJ5, is there a better vehicle for tooling about Australia? Yeah, we didn't think so. The Smoking Tire Car Pack is available for free as part of the Forza Horizon 3 Ultimate Edition or Car Pass program. Commitment-phobes can also download this single vehicle pack for $7. How to charge up your BMW i3 with a Honda

Sat, Sep 13 2014

Behold a cheaper version of BMW's range extender for its i3 plug-in. And it's brought to you by ... Honda? Sort of, if you take the approach that Gadget Review took when it looked for an alternative to ponying up the $4,000 or so for the gas-powered i3 range extender that comes from the factory. What was procured was a Honda portable generator for Home Depot for the experiment, which involved gassing the generator up in a parking lot, plugging in the i3 and going out for a cup of coffee. The result was that, after about a half-hour of charging, the i3 picked up about four miles of driving range. Not exactly revolutionary but it least a bit instructive. And given that Honda generators start at about $800, the idea, while clunky, is potentially cash-saving. Gadget Review briefly took the experiment one-step further by trying to run the generator inside the back of the car and plugging in, complete with a rigged-up ventilation system, but the host thought better of it once he realized that there'd be suffocation involved. Why this was never tried on the Nissan Leaf, we'll never know. Check out Gadget Review's five-minute video below.
