2003 BMW 540i M-Sport
6 Speed Manual
Alpine White On Black
Mileage: 138k
Title: Clean Georgia
VIN: WBADN53473GF71740

This 2003 BMW E39 540i M-Sport, which is number #365 out of 1,265 M-Sport models imported into the US for the 2003 model year only, the last year the E30 was produced. Of those 1,265 produced, only 12 were made in this color combination and of those, fewer in manual transmission (I could not get the exact number).

?The factory M-Sport package consisted of the following:
M5 front and rear bumpers (rear valence different to allow for single exhaust)
M5 Steering wheel
M-Sport Suspension II (with M5 shocks)
M door sill trim
Staggered 18” M-Parallel wheels
Anthracite (black) headliner (only came on M5 and M-sport models)
High gloss black shadow line window trim
White direction indicator lights
Sport seats

?This particular car came with the following dealer options:
Rear folding seats
Heated front seats
Universal garage remote control
On board computer
Deleted rear spoiler
Headlight washers
Rain sensing wipers
Xenon headlights
Ski pass?

Upgrades:
BC coilover suspension, fully adjustable ride height and dampening
3M titanium vinyl wrapped interior trim (reversible if you do not like it)
High temp heat painted valve covers
LED light license plate lights & quarter panel indicator lights
3M 35% window tint
Osram D2S CBI headlight bulbs
Royal Purple transmission fluid
Matte black kidney grills
?Some minor issues with the car:
SRS light goes on and off intermittently (faulty passenger occupancy sensor, however airbags still function)
Spare tire is not a M-Parallel (I purchased it like this)
Battery in key fob is going out
Pixels displaying info on gage cluster go out intermittently (happens on all E39 models, can be permanently repaired)

This car is completely rust free and has been garage kept, smoker free the entire time I owned it (and all previous owners from what I gathered).  There is absolutely no rust on this car and only shows minor wear with typical rock chips, bumper scuffs, minuscule dings and lightly worn leather.  This car has all original body panels and has never been wrecked.  I had the front bumper replaced and painted with OEM parts due to hairline cracks from a BMW dealership with all the records proving it.

I have some maintenance records going back to 2010 for routine maintenance.  I had the valve cover gasket leak as the only issue with the car the entire time I owned it, which I has since replaced.  Everything works mechanically on the car; a/c blows cold, brakes are strong and firm, clutch engages, heated seats, motor is strong and torquey, sun roof, great tread on tires, suspension is tight with no squeaks or rattles, seat motors etc.  I am a huge BMW enthusiast who have owned multiple BMWs before and took great pride in owning this vehicle.  It is a rush to drive with the insane amount of torque this engine has.  I constantly get compliments on this car wherever I go.  Here is your chance to own a timeless design of the BMW E39 5 series without having to deal with the hassle of owning a M5.  Mileage may go up a few hundred miles as I still occasionally drive it.

Buyer will pay for shipping or coordinate to pick it up.

BMW may be planning AMG Black Series competitors

Fri, 01 Feb 2013

Word has it BMW has its heart set on giving the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series a run for its money in the US. According to BimmerBoost.com, the German automaker has been making more and more noise about offering a number of specialty models aimed specifically at enthusiasts. While at the Detroit Auto Show this year, the BMW PR machine revealed 2013 will be "an interesting year" and that buyers can expect one or two products aimed specifically at swiping buyers from the clutches of the C63 AMG Black Series. The news came courtesy of Automobile writer Marc Noordeloos' Twitter machine.
Noordeloos reportedly interviewed several executives familiar with the M models while in Detroit, and says the M division would like to offer hardware like the M3 CSL, GTS or CRT to buyers here in the States. That sounds great to us, but saying something doesn't make it true, and manufacturers rarely find it in their hearts to bring money-losing machines to our green shores. Still, that won't stop us from crossing our fingers.

BMW crushing ActiveE EVs, saving all batteries

Sat, May 24 2014

It's unlikely to spark a movement and a movie, the way a certain EV1 did a decade ago, but anyone who's seen Who Killed The Electric Car? will likely cringe at this bit of news. Despite the fact that crushing and recycling old vehicles is standard operating procedure in the auto industry, when EVs are involved, it's always a touchy subject. The next phase will see "all of the lithium-ion batteries being repurposed for Battery Second Life research projects." So, what's the news? Well, the image you see above, which comes from the spotting of 16 smashed BMW ActiveE EVs on flatbed trailers on California Route 91 near Los Angeles, CA. EV advocate Chelsea Sexton told Green Car Reports, "It's all very deja vu, right down to [BMW's] DriveNow promotion as a don't-look-behind-the-curtain distraction – recall GM touting EV1s being donated to museums and universities? – and VINs spray painted on the sides, allowing former drivers to identify their own cars." BMW's take on this is that the ActiveEs were always meant to have a limited lifespan, and their time has come. As spokesman Dave Buchko tells AutoblogGreen, "The learning begun with the ActiveE will transition to the next phase with all of the lithium-ion batteries being repurposed for Battery Second Life research projects." (You can read his full statement below.) Originally, there were 700 ActiveEs leased to Electronauts (give or take). Yahoo! Autos points out that the ActiveEs were originally imported into the US as "pre-production" cars, which means they can't be sold, they can only be used for carsharing projects or re-leased. Eighty of those ActiveEs recently found a second life as vehicles in BMW's DriveNow carsharing fleet in San Francisco (bringing the total of ActiveEs in the program to 150) and "some have also been returned to Munich for additional research markets," Buchko said. The big picture here is that no one should be sad to see these cars go. Yes, they may have had some life left in them, but the rules say their time is done and everything is being done to crush responsibly in accordance with the law. Like Plug In Cars says, we're in a completely different era now than we were when GM crushed all those EV1s a decade ago. Instead of marking the end of a plug-in vehicle program, sending the ActiveEs away to be recycled is a symbol of the evolution and growth of BMW's i Project.

BMW's Connected Drive feature vulnerable to hackers

Tue, Feb 3 2015

BMW is working to fix a cyber-security flaw that has left 2.2 million vehicles worldwide vulnerable to hackers. Cars equipped with the automaker's Connected Drive remote-services system are affected, according to the German Automobile Association (ADAC), which first discovered the problem. Researchers found they could lock and unlock car doors by mimicking mobile communications and sending phony signals to a SIM card installed in affected vehicles. An attack could be launched "within minutes" of accessing the system without the perpetrators leaving a trace, according to their report, in part because once they had gained access to the network, the communications were not secure. In response to the security gap, BMW says it has been upgrading software via over-the-air updates over the past week, so no visits to dealerships are needed to remedy the security hole. In fact, owners of affected cars may not have even noticed the updates taking place. The problem affects BMW, Rolls-Royce and MINI vehicles equipped with Connected Drive since 2010. Flaws were first reported to BMW last year by ADAC, which is the country's equivalent of AAA. ADAC says it withheld a public announcement until the car company could address the problem. While BMW has pushed the software patch to most affected vehicles, the organization said it's possible some at cars in the United States had not yet been updated. BMW did not respond to a request for comment Monday. In a written statement, the automaker said it knows of no real-world breaches. 2015 Off To Dubious Start The hack could raise the eyebrows of industry leaders: Cars are now the equivalent of mobile computers and cyber-security experts have been warning that the auto industry has been slow to close its security holes. BMW's breach marks the second time in 2015 that researchers have found a popular automotive feature with little or no security precautions. Last month, experts said a popular device made by Progressive Insurance that allows motorists to track their driving habits contained no security whatsoever. Like the Connected Drive smart-phone app, many automotive components and infotainment features were conceived and produced at a time when industry executives never considered the possibility someone might want to hack into them. But increased connectivity brings increased risk. Going forward, BMW says its Connected Drive features will now operate by using encrypted communications via the HTTPS protocol.
