I have for sale a 2000 BMW 540i, V8 with 205k miles. Its is Black Pearl with a 6spd manual and the M package. Loaded with all options including a working Nav system and moonroof. Car runs and drives great. I really love driving it. I recently bought the car and it needed a little tlc. No serious mechanical issues, just a really good cleaning and the Nav system did not work, but I bought replacement nav computer and head unit. They were used but function as they should. The head unit does have a few cut marks on the screen, but it does not hurt the functionality. I cleaned, washed, compounded and waxed the outside. As you can see it shows very nice and the paint is very shiny. It has very few dents or marks and you have to look close to see any of them. The interior was cleaned and does not have any cuts or stains. Only interior issue is one of the rear windows does not go down more than an inch. It will go up and down, but only an inch. Don't think this will be a major repair, I just didn't have time to get to it yet. The tires are near new, as are the brake pads all around. I repaired a leak in the power steering lines. They were leaking near the reservoir out of both lines. I replaced the clamps and one is completely dry and the other is just seeping. Not nearly enough to warrant changing out the entire lines. You may even be able to tweak it a little more and stop it completely, but I didn't have an issue with the seeping. I also just changed the oil and what I took out looked very good. The wheels are straight and showed some clear coat flaking, so I painted them black. I also tinted the windows and added the rear spoiler, which is an OEM M5 spoiler. I also customized the exhaust, so it is straight piped from the cats back. It sounds awesome and the looks and sound of this car definitely turns heads.

So why sell it after only a few months if it is so cool. Well basically the wife told me to sell it. It was bought as a 3rd car and toy, but recent unforeseen financial issues have not made it realistic for me to keep. It was definitely a short lived pleasure.

Please feel free to come see and drive the car, you will not be disappointed and will not believe it has just over 200k miles. Place I bought it from serviced it for the previous owner for the last 100k miles and they traded it in on a newer one from them. No joy rides, if you bring funds ready to negotiate, we will take it for a ride.

I have clear title in hand and plenty of more pictures and can also take pics of anything you would like to see specifically. I also have the manuals and original window sticker showing this car listed new for $60k in 2000. Clean car fax with no accidents.

Item is for sale locally and listing can be ended at any time.

Mazda CX-5 named Japan's Car of The Year, Subaru BR-Z wins "Special Award"

Mon, 03 Dec 2012

The Mazda CX-5 stamped its Kodo design and SkyActiv technology authority all over the Japan Car of the Year awards, taking the top prize ahead of the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT 86. It is Mazda's second victory in the last ten years, the 2005 MX-5 claiming the same trophy, and the fourth time the Hiroshima company has won.
The award is decided by 60 local "automotive experts and journalists," and open to any passenger car released in Japan from November 1, 2011 to October 31, 2012 that has sold more than 500 units. Each judge gets 25 votes, his or her top vote getting 10 points, the rest of the points being spread among the judge's choice for the next best four cars.
The second-place getters were the Toyobaru twins with 318 votes, the surprise being they didn't beat or get any closer to the crossover. The Subaru BRZ did claw some mojo back, earning the Special Award given to cars that have made "an exceptional impact." The BMW 3 Series was third overall and won the Import Car of the Year award with plenty of room between it and the second place Range Rover Evoque.

Can the government mechanically force you to wear your seatbelt? [w/poll]

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

The National Highway Traffic Administration is considering the use of ignition interlocks in vehicles that would require the seatbelts of occupied seats to be fastened in order to drive the car, Automotive News reports, four decades after Congress moved to prevent manufacturers from installing them in cars sold in the US market. Following a transportation bill passed last year that lift some of the restrictions on seatbelt interlocks, automakers such as BMW are considering the benefits of using them in future cars. Now, before you go crying about your lost freedom, keep reading.
BMW said in an October 2012 petition that the use of seatbelt interlocks would allow the company to make lighter and more spacious vehicles, if the devices could be used in lieu of unbelted crash tests. The crash test has required the addition of bulky safety features, such as knee bolsters, that aren't as necessary when occupants are buckled up, especially when considering the dizzyng list of safety features that come standard on today's cars. Europe, which has a higher rate of seatbelt use than in the US, doesn't perform unbelted crash tests on cars sold there.

New BMW i3-like Visio.M EV concept uses lightweight resin

Tue, Oct 21 2014

It's not a new version of the BMW i3, but an updated version of a lightweight concept car from SABIC, BMW, the Technical University of Munich, Daimler and others does bear a certain resemblance to the well-designed plug-in city car. From the black "glass" in the hatch to the angled line tail lights to the up-and-down window line, you can see a sort of family resemblance (see an i3 comparison photo here). And, of course, they both have an electric powertrain. But the changes made to the new lightweight urban electric concept vehicle is more of an exercise in what's possible rather than a way to evolve the i3 and i8 into a broader i family of vehicles. Even so, what we see here is interesting, since SABIC found all sorts of new ways to take weight out of the car as part of the Visio.M (Visionary Mobility) project, which was first announced in 2012. Let's start with the window material, which as you might guess from the quotation marks above, is not made of glass but is instead SABIC's Lexan polycarbonate (PC) resin plastic. The lower weight (the PC helps shed about 29 pounds) adds two miles of range while the PC resin has better thermal conductivity compared to glass and so does even more because the HVAC system can be more efficient. According to SABIC's computational fluid dynamics analysis, an extra 9-10 miles of range, in fact. Without the battery, this concept weighs just 992 pounds. Remember, BMW already made a lot of weight-reduction measures in the i3 thanks to carbon fiber reinforced plastic, so to make the "glass" lighter would only help boost efficiencies on a production vehicle that uses a resin like this. Read more below. SABIC's LEXAN™ resin delivers weight savings and thermal efficiency for new ultra-lightweight electric car concept developed by BMW-led Visio.M Consortium Munich, October 20, 2014 Today, at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), BMW, Daimler, TUM scientists and a consortium of industry participants showcased a lightweight urban electric concept vehicle with various advances, including an all-plastic design of the car's windows. The windows are made of LEXAN resin, a polycarbonate (PC) material, and coating technologies from SABIC, a leading developer of PC glazing for automotive windows and many other thermoplastic solutions for the automotive industry.
