2000 Bmw 540i Sport / 6sp / Dinan Performance Equipment on 2040-cars
Warrenton, Virginia, United States
2000 BMW 540i Sport / 6sp / Dinan
“The best E39 on the market - meticulously maintained in stunning condition. Look no further as it’s as close to an M5 as possible, but with-out the breakage and expense”
About: 2000 540I Sport, 6-speed, ‘M’ package, cold weather package, all 2003 updates / upgrades completed, Xenon headlights, complete M5 exterior conversion - all parts from BMW.
Driving experience: The best performance sports sedan, period. If you’ve never had the chance to drive a well sorted V-8 E39 / 6 speed you really missed out! These cars are just as contemporary and relevant to the competition today as they were when they were new. No wind noise, rattles or vibration – butter smooth.
History: The original owner, a BMW enthusiast, ordered this car specifying the Sport package, 6-speed and other options. There were just a handful of Sport / 6-speeds imported at that time. It was used as an alternate / 3rd pleasure vehicle. All subsequent owners were also BMW enthusiasts and had the kind of cash to perform the upgrades, maintenance ahead of schedule and repairs over the years. In my estimation between the first owner and me; this car has had as much money spent on it as it cost new. It has been garage kept and extremely well cared for through-out its life.
Current ownership: For the last 3 years, me. I was formerly BMW / Porsche master technician by trade as well as a serious enthusiast. I searched and checked out dozens of 540’s through-out the US before I finally found this one. I know these cars well and I have given this one a lot of ‘love’.
Drive Train: 4.4 V-8 with Dinan large runner intake manifold, throttle body and mass air-flow sensor, AFE cold intake filter, ESS custom tune on the DME. Eisenmenn stainless steel cat-back exhaust with resonator eliminator. The valve covers have been powder-coated color matched to the paint. NO LEAKS – NO ISSUES! The underside is just as clean as the rest of the car.
Body: The body and paint are 9.5 out of 10; especially considering the year. There have been several small touch-ups over the years. 10% tint professionally added to all windows. LED small bulb conversion. The entire paint surface has been wet-sanded and buffed professionally. It is very slick and shiny, it’s beautiful.
Interior: Power sport seats, moon roof, premium DSP sound system with optional rear deck sub-woofer, updated radio module, MK IV NAV system with current date DVD mapping, large screen display, ready for Sirius radio plug-n-play module. All LED bulb conversion. Carbon fiber-look instrument cluster, short shifter from Z-3, Full M5 stainless interior trim set from BMW, console stash compartment conversion, AC Schnitzer pedals.
Suspension: H&R / Bilstein combo set up specifically for this car.
Wheels: Beyern that are period correct for this year: 19’s x 9-1/2” Rear - 8-1/2” front. They were completely refinished last year and new rear tires installed, new lug bolts, all tires were balanced.
The last 12 months: New windshield from BMW (original pitted), level II service completed; all filters and fluids with Mobile 1 & Redline oils, new Zimmerman zinc plated - drilled rotors, Akebono pads - sensors, new Bosch alternator, belts, idler pulley, rear tires, 4-wheel alignment, aero wiper blade assemblies, front cup holder, BMW floor mats, coolant flush with BMW antifreeze, charcoal cabin filters.
Bidding: Bid with confidence! I have a 100% rating with 407 transactions; a lot of which have been big $$$ items. I have that because I’m a long time Ebay’er and honest in my descriptions. I am very easy to deal with and try to be responsive and comprehensive in all communications. If you would rather discuss details over the phone, please let me know and I will provide my number. I do reserve the right to end the auction early.
Shipping / pick-up: I am experienced with domestic and international shipping. I will accommodate the winning buyer as best as possible to dates and times for pickup. I am located in Northern Va. @55 miles southwest of DC. I am @80 miles northeast of Richmond, Va. There is major interstate 4 minutes from my house. There is room in my subdivision for a semi-trailer to park and turn around. There is an inland shipping port @45 miles and sea port (Baltimore, Md.) @125 to the north. Payment: $2500 deposit due immediately after winning the auction. The remaining balance to be sent via wire transfer to my bank within 48 hrs. If you are unfamiliar with wire transfers email me and we can discuss them. They are as easy as pie, extremely safe and secure. Also the fees are almost nil. None of which can be said about Paypal. Note there is a lien on the title with a small balance remaining. Once I have received full payment, I’ll have a clear title in hand within 5 business days or less and most likely by the time you actually pick the car up. Low / No feedback bidders: If you have “0” history or less than 92% rating, please do not bid. If you have less than 10 transactions please email me first before bidding. Know that ‘bogus’ bids will be cancelled as I do not do ‘ghost’ or ‘proxy’ bidding to artificially drive up the auction. Thanks!! |

FCA joins BMW, Intel and Mobileye on autonomous car project
Wed, Aug 16 2017Today, BMW, Intel and Mobileye announced that FCA would be joining their effort to build a sharable and scalable platform for autonomous cars. This project has been moving ahead full steam, with Intel purchasing Mobileye earlier this year, not long after Tesla and Mobileye parted ways. Not long after that, parts supplier Delphi joined the autonomous effort. The group's current goal is to have 40 autonomous test vehicles on the road by the end of 2017. The eventual end game is to create a new architecture that each partner can use and adapt to its needs. The platform will support level 3 to level 4/5 automated driving, and can be adapted to suit brand identity. The main headquarters for the effort will be in Germany. FCA staff will join the already established group of engineers from BMW, Intel and Mobileye. The group expects this new platform to hit the streets by 2021. It's unclear how this will affect FCA's relationship with Waymo, Alphabet's autonomous vehicle project. Waymo currently uses modified Chrysler Pacificas for its fleet. In addition to FCA, the trio of BMW, Intel and Mobileye have extended an invitation to any other automakers and suppliers that want to join the project. Car technology I'm thankful and unthankful for
Mon, Nov 27 2017The past few years have seen a surge of tech features in new vehicles — everything from cloud-based content to semi-autonomous driving. While some of it makes the driving experience better, not all tech is useful or well thought out. Automakers who are adept at drivetrains, ride quality and in-cabin comforts often fail at infotainment interfaces and connectivity. From testing dozens of vehicles each year and in the spirit of gratitude, here are three car tech features I'm thankful — and a trio I could live without. Thanks Connected search: This seems like a no-brainer since everyone already has it on their smartphones, but not all automakers include it in the dashboard and as part of their nav systems. The best ones, such as Toyota Entune, leverage a driver's connected device to search for a range of services and don't charge a subscription or require a separate data plan for the car. I also like how systems like Chrysler Uconnect use Yelp or other apps to find everything from coffee to gas stations and allow searching via voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: It took two of the largest tech companies to get in-dash infotainment right. While they have their disadvantages (you're forced to use Apple Maps with CarPlay, for example), the two smartphone-integration platforms make it easier and safer to use their respective native apps for phoning, messaging, music and more behind the wheel by transferring a familiar UI to the dashboard — with no subscription required. Heated seats and steering wheels: I really appreciate these simple but pleasant features come wintertime. It's easy to get spoiled by bun-warmers on frosty mornings and using a heated steering wheel to warm the cold hands. I recently tested a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe that also had heated armrest that added to a cozy luxury experience. Bonus points for brands like Buick that allow setting seat heaters to turn on when the engine is remotely started. No thanks Automaker infotainment systems: Automakers have probably poured millions into creating their own infotainment systems, with the result largely being frustration on the part of most car owners. And Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming along to make them obsolete. While some automaker systems, such as Toyota Entune and FCA's Uconnect, are easy and intuitive to use, it seems that high-end systems (I'm looking at you BMW iDrive and Mercedes-Benz COMAND) are the most difficult.
BMW M235i Racing takes to the track
Mon, 09 Dec 2013Last month, BMW showed off a motorsports version of its new 2 Series Coupe called the M235i Racing. While that single image was obviously a rendering or design model, BMW Motorsports has now released a video showing the real deal being tested.
From what we can tell from beneath the camouflage, the wide-body fenders - to accommodate a 3.5-inch track stretch - are slightly different than the image BMW previously released. Still, the body is noticeably different from the stock coupe. The video, which is posted below, shows glimpses of the race-prepped interior, including a full FIA roll cage, but more importantly we get to hear the 333-horsepower engine and its throaty exhaust in action.
