1985 BMW 535i (E28) I have owned this car for 4 years and have invested WAY WAYYY more than my starting price.  Hate to sell, it’s an awesome driving  and looking car that is a pleasure to own and show. I honestly love looking at this car sitting in the garage or anywhere , it has a great stance and look to it. It gets tons and tons of compliments. You'd be surprised how many people think its an M5 which of course was only available in black / 1988...I have to explain that all the time!  I just bought a bigger car for the family so this needs to go to another loving home. I'm roughly the 4th owner, it originally came from Chicago, that owner ( older lady) blew the head gasket where it received an E34 motor replacement from a respectable shop ( no documents).  I purchased the car from a friend who owns several vintage BMW M3's and M6's. He didn’t spare any expense when it came to maintenance . I also didn't spare any expense with the intentions of keeping it forever. It has always been kept indoors and not driven winters. Its been in climate controlled storage the last 8 years at least. It runs and drives great with little or no issues.
  • 5 speed Manual
  • 91,394 miles
  • Original window sticker, manuals, etc.
  • Sunroof
  • Leather, 5 position power seats (works good) Good condition. Dash does have a straight crack right above the steering wheel. Otherwise the interior looks absolutely fantastic.
  • E34 motor swap done 5 years ago @ professional BMW shop in Chicago ( motor has approximately 120k miles). Unfortunately no paperwork. Runs awesome, no leaks.
  • Recent Intake manifold gasket and Fuel injection o-ring work due to vacuum leak ( $500).
  • Recent power steering pump and hoses ($2k )
  • Tires Bridgestone Potenza re760 sport 225/50r16  installed 2/18/ 13 ( approx 2k miles) ($500)on new 16 BBS wheels from the BMW dealer.
  • BAV auto suspension kit ( springs and Bilstien shocks) 3/22/12 ($639)
  • New condenser and retro fit A/C on 9/18/12. A/C still blows cold. ($800)
  • Brake master cylinder , 4 new calipers, pads, hoses, speed sensor etc. brakes all redone 4/5/11 ($500+)
  • Fan and fan clutch 4/6/11
  • New Alpine Bluetooth digital media receiver, 12” sub, Alpine 250 w amp, new alpine 4x6 speakers ( did not cut anything!!) All professionally installed 8/13/13 Have documents ($700)
  • Paint job ( original color) done  5/22/12. Professionally  done in Sikkens bc/cc. New moldings and badges. Chrome has been sprayed with semi-gloss black. Bumpers, kidneys and tail lamp surrounds painted in a charcoal grey bc/cc. Body was in great shape before respray, the following is what I can tell you about the cars original paint:  RF fender was resprayed at some point, rest of the car looked to have the original paint. Driver door had a dent which was pulled, rear antenna hole was welded up ( hidden antenna under dash now).  There was no rust found or filled! The front bumper had been been pushed over slightly to the left, I had the frame rails/ bumper mounts put on a frame rack to make sure it was very straight. There was no exterior body damage . Front and rear spoilers were stripped and flexible primer used ( unsure of brand but looks like pfab?) Jambs still have original paint, some very minor crusty parts under the hood and trunk that have been treated. Battery box is in poor shape with rust, had full intentions to repair it but is completely functional and not visible as is now. Looks very good, great quality. (over $6k invested in paint job alone)
  • Great Car overall, runs, drives and looks excellent.
  • I encourage inspections! 15 minutes from Louisville international airport (SDF). There is a loading dock available at my work, so I can ship overseas container. I do have several national and international shippers I trust and will be happy to pass along info if needed.
  • Clean and Clear KY title in my name.
  • For Sale locally, auction may end early. NO RESERVE! Contact me for more info or pictures, thanks for looking!

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?

2015 BMW X4 gets its small-screen debut

Thu, 26 Jun 2014

It's easy to dismiss the 2015 BMW X4. On one hand, the high-style crossover seems more like a boardroom decision than a practical one. In a world with the 3 Series, 4 Series, X3, 3 Series GT and 4 Series Gran Coupe, is BMW really being inundated with requests for a baby X6? Of course, when we finally got behind the wheel of the CUV for our First Drive, it proved rather entertaining, and certainly the X6's global sales success suggests that it's worth the relatively low-cost risk for the Bavarian automaker.
Now, it's the general public's chance to weigh in on the latest crossover Bimmer and vote with their dollars. The X4 is just hitting showrooms in the US, and BMW is beginning its marketing campaign for it with the slogan "Embrace the Unknown." The first TV ad shows off the CUV driving through the world's major cities as they undulate like the rolling ocean. A woman flatly says phrases starting with "Go," while a synth-heavy score plays underneath that wouldn't be out of place over the end credits in an '80s sci-fi movie.
Visually, it's actually kind of a cool ad and evokes some of the special effects from Inception. Focusing on an urban atmosphere is probably a good idea, too, because the percentage of X4s going offroad is likely to be in the low single digits, if that. Now, let's see if BMW buyers are willing to embrace the unknown of the X4. Scroll down to watch it for yourself.

BMW 3 Series wagon configurator up, priced from $41,450

Mon, 25 Mar 2013

If you're still smarting from the shock of the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, we have good news for you. BMW has just fired up the configurator for the 2014 3 Series wagon. Prices start at $41,450, excluding an $895 destination and handling fee. The price tag will buy you a 328i xDrive Sports Wagon with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine boasting 241 horsepower paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment. The automaker's xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive is also standard, as is a fuel-saving auto start/stop function and 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-season run flat rubber.
Buyers can step up to Sport Line trim for $2,600, and doing so graces the 3 Wagon with 18-inch wheels, high-gloss black accents outdoors as well as a sport leather steering wheel, high-gloss or aluminum interior trim and a black signature key fob. Luxury Line trim will set you back $2,300 abd features chrome trim accents outdoors and wood trim inside along with other goodies. Buyers can also opt for Modern Line trim at $2,300, complete with a turbine-design 18-inch alloy wheel, matte chrome trim bits outdoors and a range of interior trim options.
Our favorite of the bunch? That would be M Sport trim. While the tweaks are largely aesthetic, we dig the notion of 8-way power adjustable sport seats indoors and exclusive M Estoril Blue paint outside. Expect to pay $3,950 for the pleasure. Head over to the BMW site to build your own.
