Up for sale is a 1976 BMW 2002 with Verona Red paint and tan interior. Car runs great and engine doesn't leak any oil. Car has 78,255 miles and as far as I know, that is all original. Odometer does work. Car comes equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission. I will do my best to list and any issues that the car has. I bought this car to restore or resto-mod. I have decided to head another direction and this would be a great project for someone who loves these cars. It has all the right ingredients for a well done restoration or resto-mod.

The Good:

Body is straight, paint is good (with some bubbling around right rear quarter and trunk lid). Paint is original color, but it does look like it has been re sprayed at some point.

Engine runs strong. Numbers matching. Starts first time every time. This car features the Solex 2bb carb. Carb seems like it is tuned for cruising rather than speed. I have not gotten far enough with it to change this.

Transmission shifts good, but will need to some work done in the future as the syncros are starting to wear. In other words, you cant speed shift but it does shift fine for driving.

All lights, switches and indicators work, with the exception of the speedometer (needs a new cable). Even the fasten seatbelt sign lights up when the car starts. Wipers and washer both work at all speeds.

Wheels are good shape and tires have good tread on them.

Trim and bumpers are good.

Interior is in great shape for it's age. No tears in the seats. Dash has two cracks in it (typical for this model). Carpet is in good shape.

Vin is 2740665

The Bad: (Remember this car is 36 years old)

Rust is present in a some areas. The front floor pans will need to be replaced and there will need to be some work done to the rear shock towers. Car rides good and shock supports are not affected at this time. Frame rails are GOOD. Pillars are GOOD. Rear floor pans are GOOD. Engine bay is GOOD. Front towers have surface rust. I added a few pictures of the front floor-pan

Steering has some play (nothing scary). The steering box will need to be adjusted to take the slop out. I drive it to work with no issues.

Engine burns a little oil, but runs good. This is typical for the original motor.

This car just needs a restoration or a little TLC to make a great daily driver. I just put brand new roundels on it (not the newer, cheaper ones, but the original painted style). Car rides smooth, and doesn't rattle going over bumps. These things are getting harder to come by that aren't in a rusted heap.

I have been looking at all the other models on here, and at other sites for comparison in price and this car is by far the best for the money. This car has great potential. While it is the last year for this model, some quote it as being much better than the 73,74 and 75 models. Most of the exterior panels on this car are in great shape. The interior is in great shape. I could part this car out (which would be crazy to do) and would make much more money than selling it outright. If I don't sell it, I will keep it and restore it myself. It just might have to wait in line :)

BMW says yes to 1 Series M successor, no to M6 Gran Coupe with xDrive

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

If you're anything like us, the first half of that headline made you smile. The BMW 1 Series M Coupe was, without a doubt, one of our favorite cars from the past few years, and according to a BMW Blog interview, Dr. Friedrich Nitschke, head of the company's M division, has confirmed that a successor is in the works.
"We haven't made a decision yet, but the 1M coupe was so successful, that in my opinion, I am absolutely sure we will build a successor," Nitschke told BMW Blog. Currently, BMW only offers the M135i version of the new 1 Series hatch in Europe, which Nitschke says is "not a pure M car."
Moving elsewhere in the M range, BMW Blog asked about the M6 Gran Coupe that recently debuted at this year's Detroit Auto Show. The obvious competitors for this car will be higher-power versions of the Porsche Panamera and Audi RS7, but while both of those offer all-wheel drive, the M6 only sends power to its rear wheels.

2015 BMW Alpina B6 xDrive Gran Coupe

Thu, 22 May 2014

Alpina has been lovingly modifying BMWs for half a century, but as we learned during a tour of the company's HQ in Buchloe, Germany, Alpina has been in the wine distribution business for nearly as long. The company has an estimated million bottles on reserve in two warehouses and a beautiful wine cellar/tasting room on property in western Bavaria, just yards from where its 1,500 hand-crafted automobiles per year are produced.
What does that have to do with the new B6 Gran Coupe? Well, it may help make sense of the overall character of Alpina's automobiles, especially vis-à-vis the similarly priced, similarly powerful M Cars that BMW sells in far greater numbers. Alpinas are built by wine connoisseurs for wine connoisseurs, or wine connoisseur types; they are not rip-snortin' racecars for the road - that's M's domain. Alpinas are esoteric, rich in character and nuanced. But make no mistake: they are very, very fast.
Our brief first drive of the B6 Gran Coupe - the only 6 Series-based Alpina we'll get in the US for 2015 - took place on German autobahns and Austrian alpine roads, where the car is more at home than anywhere in the world, both literally and figuratively. With 540 horsepower and 540 pound-feet of torque on tap from its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 and xDrive all-wheel drive, the B6 is said to be able to hit 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 198 mph, a massive 43 mph faster than the M6, which is electronically limited to 155 mph. Yet even at insane speeds - we saw an indicated 190 mph on one particularly lonely stretch of Autobahn - the B6 feels more luxurious than sporty, taking the countenance of a low-slung Bentley Continental GT or an Aston Martin Rapide S, not a knife-edged supercar. It doesn't feel scintillating like a Porsche 911 GT2; rather it feels rock steady, like the 4,780-pound luxury sedan it is.

BMW almost ready to roll out new 2 Series cabriolet

Thu, 05 Jun 2014

The 2 Series is a relatively new member of the BMW family, having been spun off of the 1 Series (itself one of the company's youngest lines) just last year. So far the range has been split between the Active Tourer and the 2 Series Coupe, but soon the latter will breed a new compact convertible to take the place of the outgoing 1 Series cabriolet, and here we have our best look at it yet.
Spied with the most minimal camouflage and its top down while undergoing its final rounds of development testing, this pre-production 2 Series cabrio looks about ready for show time. While the Active Tourer is based on a different front-drive platform, this convertible is, as you might have guessed, essentially a 2 Series Coupe with a folding fabric roof. That means rear-wheel drive (or potentially all-wheel drive if BMW extends its availability from the coupe to the convertible) win either 228i or M235i specification - both of them turbocharged, the former with a 240-horsepower, 2.0-liter four and the latter with the 320-hp, 3.0-liter inline-six.
Considering that BMW got an approximately $8k premium for the 1 Series convertible over the coupe, expect the 2 Series cabrio to start at a little over $40k for the 228i and top out at around $53k for the M235i xDrive convertible. That is, assuming BMW offers it in that top spec, because at that rate we're getting perilously close to the $54,900 base price of the 435i convertible.
