Here is a very nice BMW 2002, attractively priced for the right buyer.
Being a 1976, this car will need to be smogged in CA, does not have the smog equipment. It may make more sense for an out-of-CA buyer, or for someone who wants to buy the parts (they are out there) for CA. Or turn into a rally car or whatever. The only other item that needs to be fixed is the car needs valve guides. Drivable as-is, but they need to be replaced, typical 2002 item. Now, for the good parts of the car, which there are many. Decent interior, clean. Has external fog lights, great stereo with great speakers, USB, CD, etc. 4 speed transmission is smooth as silk. Suspension is great, there are NO squeaks, rattle, or issues. Steering is straight and true with no wheel vibration. No weird wear on tires. In fact, there are four brand new tires on the car. The wheels shown are the lousy ones I got with the car; they have been replaced with fair-condition, appropriate BMW wheels. Sport exhaust, pipes are in good shape. Brand NEW battery. Car has proper power. Windows track nicely. Body is straight, I see no collision damage from previous owner. BWM locking gas cap. All in all, a nice, entry-level BMW. I looked at alot of these, and they were scary to even sit in at this price point. This is a nice version, with no rust I can see solid and decent. Questions welcome. Note to Scammers: I know all the scams. No, don't want your check in advance, no, not shipping this out of the country. Bank transfers or come to my house with cash, not a big transaction here. |

2014 BMW X5 recalled over faulty child-safety locks
Tue, 27 May 2014BMW is set to recall some 6,400 of its new-for-2014 X5 SUVs built between December 12, 2013 and March 10, 2014 due to concerns that the child safety locks, if set, might deactivate without warning. The problem affects only those vehicles with the automatic soft-closing option.
According to the bulletin issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the lock mechanism on the rear doors "may not have been manufactured to correct tolerances," meaning the safety locks could disengage with a simple pull of the door handle. Basically, with a pair of tugs, the rear doors could be opened from the inside, regardless of child safety locks.
BMW is in the process of notifying owners of affected vehicles. Any necessary repairs will be conducted free of charge. Take a look below for the official press release from NHTSA.
2015 BMW i8: Autoblog Technology of the Year finalist
Wed, 19 Nov 2014
Traditionally, nominations for the Autoblog Technology of the Year award are earned for specific developments - a new-think powertrain, a uniquely developed material, a groundbreaking smartphone app, or what have you. In the case of BMW's marvelous i8, it so bristles with novel applied sciences and fresh features that we broke with tradition and nominated the entire car.
We just couldn't help ourselves. Oh, we could've focused on the i8's carbon-fiber monocoque, or its well-resolved plug-in-hybrid powertrain that incorporates a tiny 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine and an electric motor, or its seamless through-the-road all-wheel drive. This is a car that will even have frickin' laser beams for headlights - at least it will for our friends in Europe (and it will in the US, should our legislators ever catch up).
Alex Zanardi back in the driver's seat with BMW
Tue, 21 Jan 2014If there's ever been an inspirational story in the pantheon of motor racing history, surely it's that of Alessandro Zanardi. The Italian driver worked his way up the motor racing ladder, making it into Formula One and winning two CART championships for Chip Ganassi Racing back before the series re-merged into IndyCars. Tragedy struck in 2001 when he lost both his legs in a crash at the Lausitzring in Germany, but rather than accept his fate, Alex pushed on. Fitted with prosthetic limbs, he learned to drive a racing car with hand controls and got back in the driver's seat.
Zanardi drove for BMW in the European Touring Car Championship and then in the World Touring Car Championship that replaced it, landing on the podium several times despite his physical disadvantage. He left racing in 2009 to train for the Paralympics, winning two gold medals in London, but Alex apparently couldn't shake the racing bug. BMW modified one of its M3 DTM racers with hand controls for him to test later that year. And now he's returning to motor racing full time.
BMW has just announced that Zanardi will be driving a Z4 GT3 in the Blancpain Sprint Series, the successor to the FIA GT Series and short-distance counterpart to the Blancpain Endurance Series. The car has been modified with the hand controls the Bavarian automaker's racing department fitted to the aforementioned M3 DTM and will be fielded by the ROAL Motorsport team with which Alex challenged for the European Touring Car Championship last decade.
