The passenger-side door has a dent. See pictures.- Outside mirror on driver side needs to be replaced.- A new windshield. The current one has one large vertical crack on the passenger side, and one small crack on the driver side.- New brake rotors and pads. I currently downshift, slow down, and even use the emergency brake sometimes in order to use the brakes; they are still functional (somewhat) but they don't stop on a dime. NEVERTHELESS, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO GET THESE REPLACED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. TOP PRIORITY.- Redo the interior of the car. This is not a priority, of course, but if you're looking to restore the car to a collector's item, you may want to do this when you get a chance.- The 4-way hazard button needs to be replaced. You can get these online for about $60.- There is no air-conditioning. I open the windows and sometimes the sunroof."

A 1974 BMW 2002 series vehicle for sale! A great collector's item and a perfect project for restoration! It is a 4-speed manual transmission.

I bought this car back in 2006, in the hopes of restoring it one day, but unfortunately I've fallen on hard times, and I simply don't see myself being able to afford to do this anytime soon.

What it needs:

- Body work (obviously): It has a few knicks and dings, but it's nothing really major.  There is a dent on the passenger-side door. The driver-side mirror is cracked and needs to be replaced.  See pictures.

- A new windshield. The current one has two vertical cracks, a large one on the passenger side, and a small one on the driver side.

- New brake rotors and pads. I currently downshift and slow down, even sometimes using the emergency brake; they are barely functional and they don't stop on a dime. This is a priority and it's very important to get these replaced as soon as possible!!!

- Redo the interior of the car. This is not a priority, of course, but if you're looking to restore the car to a collector's item, you may want to do this when you get a chance.

- Replace the hazard/4-way switch. The current one is not functioning, but you can buy one of these online at Bavarian Autosport or other sites and it's around $60.

- There's no air-conditioning installed in the car. I just open the windows and sometimes the sun roof, but it's still hot as hell in Arizona!!!

- The passenger side door doesn't lock from the outside; needs to be locked from the inside.

- Starting up the car is usually not a problem; since this is a 39-year old car, and it doesn't have a choke switch, in cold weather, it usually takes a few turns before the thing starts up. In summer or hot weather, it usually starts up right away.

- Current mileage unknown, because it only goes up to 5 digits.  No idea how many times the odometer has rolled over since 1974.

Other than that, the car itself runs just fine. I still use it to commute to and from work in North Phoenix, about 50 miles each way.

I do get a lot of compliments about the car from friends and strangers alike, that it's a classic, and it's a nice car, in spite of its age and looking rough on the outside. I love the car, but I simply just cannot afford to restore it at this time. I didn't realize until much later that this is a costly luxury.

In any case, I hope someone out there would like to take this car and turn it into something nice later on. If you happen to purchase the vehicle from me, and restore it, I ask that you please take photos and send them to me. I'm really curious how it turns out later.

Thanks for your interest and good luck!

Watch BMW 3 Series drift in Scotland

Sat, Sep 5 2015

Drifting is inherently connected with Japan largely because the sport originally hails from there. That's why many of the traditionally popular drifting machines are from Toyota, Nissan, and Mazda. However, as long as the rear wheels can spin, you can slide it, no matter where a vehicle is from. For a new video, Xcar discovers a grassroots contingent in Scotland that specializes in smoking the tires of the BMW 3 Series. These guys aren't running the hugely expensive machines that you see in top events, but they definitely don't lack for passion to get a car sideways. One guy in the video runs an absolutely insane-looking Nissan-powered E36 3 Series convertible. Another competes in an E30 station wagon with a Toyota engine. Watching these unconventional drifters out on the track is a cool experience. Clearly, these folks are using what's around them to fulfill their need for speed, and they look like they're having a ton of fun doing it. FCA joins BMW, Intel and Mobileye on autonomous car project

Wed, Aug 16 2017

Today, BMW, Intel and Mobileye announced that FCA would be joining their effort to build a sharable and scalable platform for autonomous cars. This project has been moving ahead full steam, with Intel purchasing Mobileye earlier this year, not long after Tesla and Mobileye parted ways. Not long after that, parts supplier Delphi joined the autonomous effort. The group's current goal is to have 40 autonomous test vehicles on the road by the end of 2017. The eventual end game is to create a new architecture that each partner can use and adapt to its needs. The platform will support level 3 to level 4/5 automated driving, and can be adapted to suit brand identity. The main headquarters for the effort will be in Germany. FCA staff will join the already established group of engineers from BMW, Intel and Mobileye. The group expects this new platform to hit the streets by 2021. It's unclear how this will affect FCA's relationship with Waymo, Alphabet's autonomous vehicle project. Waymo currently uses modified Chrysler Pacificas for its fleet. In addition to FCA, the trio of BMW, Intel and Mobileye have extended an invitation to any other automakers and suppliers that want to join the project.
