It has been well cared for and garaged its entire life.
Documents Included: Original German Packing List, Owners Manual, Factory Shop Manual, 1974 car registration. Mechanical •
Original engine. Never pulled, it has had regular oil and filter changes • Transmission: Rebuilt in mid- 80’s,
including clutch. This was typical for the car Interior Clean and odor free. No smoking ever in the car. Original
headliner, dash, console and door panels. Driver seat rebuilt in 1990. It needs to be reupholstered. I have both
seat pads for it from World Upholstery and they go with the sale. Trunk is clean, rust free, all original in color
with original toolkit. Exterior Repainted in 1978 due to the failure of the factory clear coat (BMW recall).
Maintained in original Sienna Braun. In around 1979/80, incurred minor front damage in an accident. The hood was
not damaged; just the front and you can see evidence of this due to the replacement part that has a snorkel. The
windshield is cracked. The wheels are not original to the car, they are 1973 Ronal’s and I have been told
rare/collectible. They were on the car when purchased. In 1990, I restored the paint and front seats. It was
stripped completely, primed and had Siikens two-step paint applied. All chrome border trim, rubber around windows,
trunk, and doors were replaced. Retained original Sienna Braun color. Driving Condition For the last 20 years, it
has been sitting in the garage and driven on a local errand, once or twice a month. It starts right up, always has.
The only breakdown ever was when the gas gauge broke and it ran out of gas. That was replaced. Based on my
observations, I’d drive it only a few miles until it has had a thorough going over. The tires look perfect;
however, they are old. If I were to keep the car, I’d replace the valve seals and rebuild the transmission.
Again, it runs, there is a puff of smoke on start up and then it runs clean. There is a bit of grind when
downshifting from 3rd to 2nd as the synchros are worn. I would also replace the tires. All normal maintence such as
oil changes, belts , water pump, battery has been done. Extras I was planning to restore the car and collected
parts in preparation for it. I haven’t made traction on my project, so it is time to release this car to someone
who will appreciate it and give it the care I have. It would make a great winter project. Extras I am including
are: Hella H-4 halogen headlights, factory BMW 2002 service manual, new ball Joints, brake pads, rubber bushings
for the front suspension. I also have a set of nylon bushings as well, two new Bilstien sport shocks for the front.
Many small parts to such as clips seals, driving lights, rubber gaskets for door handles. Two new door stop brakes.

Toyota passes BMW as most valuable car brand

Tue, 21 May 2013

An annual market study of the strongest brands across various industries has seen Toyota leapfrog BMW as the world's most valuable automotive brand. Toyota's 2013 brand value rose to $24.5 billion, up 12 percent versus 2012 numbers according to market research company Millward Brown's BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands list. BMW's value fell slightly; down by 2 percent to a total of $24 billion.
Mercedes-Benz finished in third place in the automotive category, up 11 percent from 2012 for a valuation of $18 billion. Honda ($12.4 billion, down 2 percent) and Nissan ($10.2 billion, up 3 percent) rounded out the top five for the category. Volkswagen was the only other auto brand that finished in the top 100 overall, in 100th place. Audi made the greatest percentage gain over 2012, up 18 percent to $5.5 billion, but finished outside of the top 100.
Technology companies dominated the overall list, with Apple, Google and IBM ranking one through three. Couture brand Prada was 2013's biggest gainer, rising by 63 percent over 2012.

Bond in Motion car exhibit coming to L.A.'s Petersen Automotive Museum

Tue, Sep 14 2021

The Petersen Automotive Museum was already a must-see for any car enthusiast visiting Los Angeles, and it's about to get a little better should you also be a James Bond fan. Opening Sept. 25 in the museum's appropriately named Grand Salon gallery will be the "Bond in Motion" exhibit of more than 30 cars, motorcycles, boats, submarines, helicopters and scale models used during the creation of the 24 official James Bond films. The timing corresponds with the Oct. 8 release of "No Time to Die," the upcoming 60th anniversary of the first Bond movie ... and hey, the release of our "All 24 James Bond movies ranked only by their cars." Highlights include many of the most famous Bond cars, including a 1977 Lotus Esprit S1 in submarine guise from "The Spy Who Loved Me," an Aston Martin V8 from "The Living Daylights," a 1999 BMW Z8 from "The World is Not Enough," the Aston Martin DB10 specially made for "Spectre," the post-flipped Aston Martin DBS from "Casino Royale," and one of the 1964 Aston Martin DB5s from the recent movies. I visited an exhibit of the same name back in 2013 at England's sensational Beaulieu Motor Museum. Although the one in L.A. won't be as comprehensive as that, simply due to logistics, many of the same vehicles and props will be present. You can see some of the photos from that exhibit below, and should you be a James Bond fan, can appreciate that it went much further than the Aston-heavy headliners above. In fact, it was hard to see what was missing from the collection. Tickets are on sale for the opening reception Sept. 23 featuring "one-night-only photo opportunities, live entertainment, food and martinis, shaken not stirred." Considering this is Los Angeles we're talking about, it's perfectly plausible this means noteworthy cast members from past films. Prices are $60 for general admission and $199 for VIP access, which includes exclusive access to the exhibit, "007 lounge" and a curated talk, plus complimentary food and a hosted bar.  The exhibit runs until October 2022.  AMC Hornet and Mercury Cougar XR7 View 22 Photos

BMW i8 with 500+ horsepower in the cards?

Wed, 22 Oct 2014

While BMW makes plenty of machinery to keep enthusiasts interested, its most enticing models are often based on more ordinary ones. That's what made the arrival of the i8 so captivating, emerging as the first stand-alone BMW sports coupe since the M1. But if its dual purpose - trying its best to both embrace the earth and traverse it rapidly - somehow left you disappointed, the next development could prove to fix that.
According to Automobile, BMW is working on a more potent i8S model. The hardcore version of the hybrid sports car would offer more power and a stiffened chassis to make it that much more aggressive. The Bavarian automaker is reportedly still evaluating two potential powertrain options: The first would pair a 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder good for 320 horsepower to an electric motor with another 204 hp. The second would use a 3.0-liter straight six with 480 hp and an electric motor with 109 hp. Both would be mated to a nine-speed dual-clutch transmission and an integrated starter motor packing an extra 27 hp.
Either way, we'd be looking at a combined output well in excess of 500 horsepower - far more than the existing i8's 228-hp turbo three and 129-hp electric motor - dropping the 0-62 time down from 4.1 seconds to an estimated 3.5. Couple that to a more advanced carbon chassis, wider tires and other goodies, and the i8 would be transformed into a far more capable performance machine than it already is.
