The Good:

This 1971 BMW Roundie beauty is at about 90%+ restoration with absolutely ZERO rust.  Work performed in the last three years includes new Bilsteins's all around, new front mounts, new Fuel Pump, new Water Pump, new Synch kit for the Weber 32/36 Carb, New Brakes (Drums, shoes, calipers and pads) all around, new Brake Master Cylinder and Vacuum drum*, new Rear Transmission Seal, new Reverse and Brake switches, new Center Track Rod & Tie Rod Ends, new Front and Rear Bearings.
The O.K.:
The interior is in O.K. condition but could use new door panels.  The paint job, although new, is not top-notch;  Defects are visible in the hood finish.  The heating system (complete with controls) were not installed when I got the car, and are all boxed up in the trunk.  Typical, the second gear synchronizer seems bit off; it's not a problem unless you are gunning it.  The door latch and brake on the drivers side is difficult to operate - but does work.
The frills:
Custom made interior center console with blasting stereo.  New rear deck speakers.  ANSA Resonator Exhaust gives it that race-track sound.  Over-sized e21 radiator and new fan assembly keeps the engine cooler than original design.  3.91 non-LSD Differential.
This is a great, solid car with only a short way to go to full restoration.  It runs and drives great and is a ball around corners.
* I am still having trouble with the vacuum valve for the brake system and can't nail it down.  It is completely drive-able and stops, but sometimes randomly doesn't let the calipers back off.  I'm still working at this.

Additional parts can be negotiated into the sale including front and real light housings, instrument panel, pedals, (4)Yokahama 205/60/13 mounted on original steel rims, spare e21/M10 motor and the original stock differential.

I DO NOT ship anywhere - you must make all your own arrangements.  $500 Deposit due within 48 hours of close of auction, Balance due within 7 days of close of auction.  Vehicle is being sold AS IS / WHERE IS.  Vehicle is also being listed locally so seller reserves the right to terminate auction at any time without notice.

Alpina B3 Bi-Turbo offers Europeans a pre-M3 performance 3er

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

Anyone that's spent some time behind the wheel of the Alpina B7 probably knows enough to understand what Americans are missing with this, newly launched Alpina B3 Bi-Turbo. We've got no lack of M models to choose from, it's true, but the Alpina touch offers a completely different driving character, with almost as much performance. A pity then that Alpina has no plans that we've heard of to bring this one across the pond.
Filling the gap between the current 3 Series offerings and the outgoing M3 (we're not likely to even see the new M3 and M4 until September's Frankfurt show, nor be able to buy one until after that), the B3 Bi-Turbo brings serious performance to the F30 3er. As the name indicates, two turbochargers are used to force-feed BMW's 3.0-liter inline-six engine, for a total output of 410 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. That power offers a big jump from even the BMW 335i sedan, and will push the B3 to 62 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 190 miles per hour. Alpina's own sport suspension underpins the thing, while the power is modulated by way of a eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new B3 will be easily recognizable thanks to its "Classic" 20-inch, 20-spoke Alpina wheels, and a rather subtle, aero-enhancing body kit. No pricing has yet been announced, but you will find a host of additional information in the attached Alpina press release below.

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe caught without cladding

Wed, 04 Sep 2013

Like it or not, the majority of BMW 3 Series variants are on their way out, and the 4 Series models are hotly embroiled in the testing needed to replace them. We've now driven the basic 4 Series, seen spy photographs of the 4 Series Convertible and both versions of the M4 and today we get a better-than-ever look at the 4 Series Gran Coupe.
And, mostly dependent on your personal disposition towards four-dour coupes, that look should be a pleasant thing. The long, swooping Gran Coupe may be roughly similar in size to the related 3 Series GT, but it has been sculpted with beauty in mind rather than crossover function. We expect that those details still hidden by the body cladding here, mostly front and rear, can be filled in by simply remembering what the standard 4 Series looks like and squinting your eyes a bit. Subtlety is thy name, BMW variants.
As for the mechanicals, well, we expect to have the very same greasy bits under the hood and beneath the car that are found in the 4 Series lineup, too.
