Here for sale is a solid, driving 1970 BMW 2002. This car needs work, but comes with my stash of parts. I used to drive it daily, but now I drive a different car, and I don't have a place to store it inside, so I think it is time to let someone else take care of it.
Car was stripped to race at some point, so it has minimal trim, no interior panels, etc. I left it that way even though this is not a race car. I just wanted an aggressive street car.
Body is solid overall. There is some rust bubbling under the paint in a couple of places. The only rust-through is a small spot in the passenger-rear floor. Trunk floor was replaced at some point (still needs seams finished). Obviously the paint doesn't match, and there are some primer spots to help combat some of the surface rust. Body work would be required to make this a nice car, but with a little work it would make a sweet driver.
Engine runs well, burns some oil and leaks some oil. Has a Weber 32/36 DGV (manual choke) carburetor. It runs off of a Ford EDIS distributor-less ignition with a MegaJolt controller. Runs very well and has given me no problems. Distributor is in place only to seal the hole. Spare engine (spun bearing) included for parts, has nice high-compression pistons in it.
Transmission is functional, but has no synchro in 2nd (typical 2002 issue). Spare transmission included in similar condition. I planned to rebuild and swap. Both are standard 4-speeds. Shift linkage is sloppy, could use a rebuild as well. Clutch is near new, with only a few thousand miles on it. Pedal missing one return spring.
Exhaust is straight through with two glasspacks inline. It is quite loud.
Driveshaft support bearing whines, needs replaced. Rear diff seeps.
Has Bilstein HD shocks all around. Front springs are cut and rears sag a bit. I have a set of stock springs included. Front suspension is all polyurethane, with new tie-rods and center link. Steering box has a little play and is at full adjustment (needs rebuilt). Front alignment is off, could use some work.
New battery and wipers installed in December.
I have tons of parts for this car, from a white gauge/lighting kit to a fuel injection setup from a 318i to spare engine/transmission. I have engine parts including a couple of crankshafts, camshafts, rocker sets, a flywheel, some connecting rods, etc. all in various conditions. I have some carb pieces. Fuel injection setup is complete, with the mass air sensor, the intake with injectors, fuel rail, throttle body, etc, all of the wiring harness (it was cut at the firewall), and the coolant tubes. All it is missing is an O2 sensor, a fuel pump, and some wiring work. I have some donor body panels including the original front center kidney, and a drivers fender. I also have some of the trim logos/badges/grilles.
I have a ton of pictures of the car and most of the parts all taken within the last month, available on my Photobucket:

It may not be the prettiest car out there, but it is super fun to drive, and will put a smile on your face. I hope it can go to a good home.

BMW Smart Charging App helps drivers charge for less
Tue, Jun 10 2014As electric vehicles proliferate and people try to conserve energy, moves toward smart charging seem only natural. Now, BMW is offering smarter charging, and it should mean more money in the pockets of its customers when they charge at home. BMW owners who drive one of the company's i vehicles will be able to use the BMW Smart Charging App that taps into a national energy rate database (powered by Genability) to allow drivers to automate charging during off-peak hours when electricity usage costs are lower. Charging vehicles at these lower rates could save drivers as much as $400 a year, BMW says. It's a simple idea, but one that could make BMW's EVs even more attractive to potential customers. The BMW Smart Charging App is initially available to customers who have leased a BMW ActiveE from the company's 2012 test fleet, a group whom BMW dubs Electronauts, and many of whom are also early adopters of the BMW i3. The app will then become available to all BMW i3 and i8 customers beginning in 2015. The Smart Charging App is integrated with the BMW i Remote App, which links with the BMW ConnectedDrive interface to also allow drivers to monitor charging times and vehicle status, adjust charging settings and even adjust vehicle temperature so the car is ready before the driver gets in the vehicle. The Smart Charging App is available for iOS and Android devices. Find more information in the press release from BMW below. BMW Launches First App to Automate the Home Charging Process for BMW i Electric Vehicles. 09.06.2014 BMW Smart Charging App Determines Optimal Times for Charging Electric Vehicles Based on Rates and Calculates Cost. Woodcliff Lake, NJ – June 9, 2014... The new BMW Smart Charging App makes it possible for BMW i customers to automatically identify the best rates and times for charging their electric vehicles at home. Developed by the BMW Group and available for Android and iOS devices, the BMW Smart Charging App is integrated with the BMW i Remote App, which allows drivers to get vehicle information via their smartphone. The BMW Smart Charging App has the potential to save customers as much as $400 annually on their electric bills. BMW is the first automotive manufacturer to offer this automated and fully integrated functionality. In its initial phase, the BMW Smart Charging App is currently available to BMW Electronauts.
BMW to unveil X4 in March
Mon, 04 Nov 2013It's been about half a year since BMW unveiled the X4 concept in Shanghai. But if you've been waiting for news on when it will reach production, the latest intel indicates it'll be announced next March.
Just when in March? That's the strange part. Inautonews reports having been told by BMW that the new X4 will be announced on March 14. So, the Geneva Motor Show, then? Not quite: although that show will still be going on then, the doors open to journalists like us on March 4, not 14. So either someone has got some details mixed up, or BMW - for some reason - is planning on waiting until after Geneva to reveal the production X4.
Whenever it does, we'll be looking at a slantback version of the X3, much like BMW did with the X5 and X6, giving Bavaria a rival to the Range Rover Evoque and Porsche Macan.
BMW considering North American engine plant?
Fri, 13 Dec 2013BMW may be set to expand its US operations with a new engine plant, Bloomberg reports. The Bavarian automaker already has its Spartanburg, SC factory which builds the company's X3, X5 and X6 crossovers. According to the story, Mexico is also under consideration for the BMW engine factory, with the report claiming a final decision will be made in 2014.
"Establishing local motor manufacturing abroad is more complex than assembling cars, but it's a logical step for them to eventually start making engines in markets where they're expanding vehicle production," Juergen Pieper, an analyst for Bankhaus Metzler tells Bloomberg. Building engines in the US or Mexico would save BMW from having to ship engines for some of its most popular models across the Atlantic.
BMW, for its part, hasn't said anything concrete. Spokesman Mathias Schmidt is quoted in the story saying, "As part of our long-term growth strategy, we're frequently looking at different countries for possible locations of future production facilities. No decisions have been made yet, though, for an additional plant."
