Volvo Polestar celebrates STCC title with Black R edition S60, V60 and XC60
Sat, 21 Dec 2013The relationship between Volvo and Polestar was forged – and forges deeper still – on the racetrack, where the latter fields the former's tin-top entries in the STCC, WTCC and V8 Supercars. And based on their success together in touring-car racing, Volvo has had Polestar amp up a number of its production road cars. What we have here is the latest.
This year Volvo and Polestar dominated the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, taking both the drivers' and manufacturers' titles. So to celebrate, Polestar has rolled out a new Black R package for the S60 sedan, V60 wagon and XC60 crossover.
The package includes an upgrade to 329 horsepower for the T6 engine and to 230 hp for the D5, and further enhances with special wheels, a dropped suspension, special sport seats and more. Unfortunately the package is only being offered in Sweden, but you can scope out the details in the press release below and the photos in the gallery above.
Volvo launches new Black R in Sweden to celebrate STCC title
Volvo Polestar Racing secured a double title in the 2013 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship with Thed Björk as drivers' champion and Volvo as manufacturers' champions. Volvo launches the new Black R package in Sweden to celebrate the double.
The launch of the new Black R comes a month after the announcement of the new Volvo S60 and V60 Polestar, two new performance models that share technology with the Black R cars.
"An exciting and successful year for Polestar has almost come to an end and we are really happy to celebrate it with Black R together with Volvo Sweden," said Hans Bååth, Managing Director of Polestar Performance.
"The cooperation with Polestar provides us with an amazing opportunity to spice our existing models. We are launching Black R to celebrate our double victory in STCC," said Kristian Elvefors, Director of Sales at Volvo Cars Sweden.
The Black R package is available for the S60, V60 and XC60 models with T6 and D5 engines. The Polestar power optimisation is standard which means 329 hp for the T6 and 230 hp for the D5.
The package includes a number of exterior and interior features such as Ixion wheels, a lowered sports chassis, new sport seats with unique R-design leather, Sensus Connect and much more.
The package is only available in Sweden.
