Silverado named Four Wheeler Magazine Pickup of the Year
Sat, 11 Jan 2014The pickup truck world is all about bragging rights, and while Ram and Ford have been getting plenty of attention these days, the all-new 2014 Chevy Silverado has lots to brag about as well. In addition to having a 33-percent chance of being named the North American Truck/Utility of the Year, the redesigned Silverado was just named the 2014 Pickup Truck of the Year by Four Wheeler Magazine.
The magazine conducted a week-long test between the Silverado and the 2014 Toyota Tundra and 2014 Ram 2500 in both on- and off-road conditions. In what proved to be a close battle between the three trucks, the Silverado came out on top due in part to its smooth ride and "top notch" fit-and-finish – things not traditionally associated with fullsize trucks. The 2014 Silverado prevented Ram from winning this award for the third straight year, but there was still plenty of praise to be had for that truck as one of the magazine's editors said that the 2014 Ram 2500 "has to be one of the most significant three-quarter-ton trucks in over a decade" thanks to its new coil-link rear suspension. The Tundra managed to edge out the Ram to grab second place in the voting with the SR5 trim level boasting what appeared to be superior off-road prowess.
To be in the running for this award, a truck must be new or significantly updated from the previous model year, offer a two-speed transfer case and be in production by January 15, 2014 with a production run of at least 1,500 vehicles. Trucks like the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, Ram 3500 and GMC Sierra were all eligible to compete, but were kept out by the respective automakers likely so as not to compete against their own vehicles. Interestingly, the Ford F-150 would have been eligible to participate, but Ford declined. Scroll down for a press release from Chevy patting itself on the back, and then head on over to Four Wheeler for the whole rundown of how the Silverado topped the Toyota and Ram.

DETROIT – Four Wheeler magazine has named the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado as its 2014 Pickup Truck of the Year. The award followed a weeklong test evaluating on- and off-road performance of new pickups.
"Four Wheeler really puts pickups to the test, on road and off, and the results showcase the capability and refinement that our team built into the new Silverado," said Jeff Luke, executive chief engineer.
The all-new Silverado was named a Best of the Best for 2014 by AutoWeek, 2013 Fleet Truck of the Year by Automotive and Business Fleet magazines, and the Detroit Free Press 2014 Truck of the Year. Silverado is a finalist for the 2014 North American Truck of the Year, which will be announced January 13 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
