Nissan NV200 finds new work as ambulance, Gibson guitar repair truck

The first one is a fleet of 30 new ambulances based on the heavier-duty NV2500 chassis. They are entering the Mexican Red Cross fleet of emergency vehicles this year after performing well in pilot tests last year. The Mexican Red Cross says it receives 1,200,000 ambulance service requests per year, so the mettle of these new machines will be tested in a hurry.
The second example is less useful for life-saving, but may save a guitar from going to the scrap heap. Called the Gibson NV200 Mobile Repair & Restoration Van, it can take the services of an authorized Gibson rep anywhere they're needed to repair or restore an axe in need. The van features a whole aesthetic designed to evoke the classic Gibson look, with wood veneer and shades of brown and black used throughout. There's a guitar rack that holds four instruments, a sliding 56-inch long repair table, toolbox, genuine Gibson stools and a sound system by Gibson Pro Audio.
The Gibson van will debut this week at the New York Auto Show, and we wouldn't be surprised to see more collaborations like this between these two companies in the future, as they're both local to Tennessee. Feel free to learn more in the press release down below.
Nissan Ambulance NV2500 Included in the Annual Mexican Red Cross Collection

MEXICO CITY, Mexico – Nissan was an important participant during the opening ceremony of the Annual Mexican Red Cross Collection 2013, with 30 NV2500 units converted into ambulances that will offer support to people in need in Mexico.
During the ceremony, the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, turned on the siren of a Nissan NV2500 ambulance to signal the start of the 2013 collection and to celebrate the donation of these new ambulances.
The Nissan NV2500 ambulance was first used by the Mexican Red Cross in April 2012 in a pilot test. After proving its versatility and functionality, the Mexican Red Cross decided to integrate Nissan as a partner for its ambulance fleet as of this year.
The Nissan NV2500 ambulance has been used to strengthen humanitarian support, help during traffic accidents, and aid many other tasks that Red Cross paramedics perform daily.
"We are pleased for an institution as the Mexican Red Cross to have decided to use our NV2500 model as ambulance after having verified its reliability and technology during the months it tested them," said José Valls, president and general director of Nissan Mexicana. "Thirty Nissan NV2500 ambulances will mark the start of what we are sure will be a long relationship with this honorable institution to provide support to the population."
The Mexican Red Cross receives over 1,200,000 ambulance service requests per year, so the NV2500 will have many opportunities to show its capabilities in terms of reliability and versatility.
Launched in Mexico Last December
Sold in Mexico since December last year, NV2500 is ideal for tough work because of its load capacity (1,425 kilograms), ample towing capability, rear-wheel drive, comfortable driving position, strong chassis structure and easy access to the load compartment. A 5-speed automatic transmission with manual and adaptation mode provides excellent driving response. NV2500 is offered with a high ceiling configuration that provides a volume equivalent to 9 cubic meters of load, as well as with standard ceiling for a volume of 6.5 cubic meters of load. Additional features that appealed to the Mexican Red Cross include ABS, Antilock Braking Limited Slip, Brake Assistant, Electronic Braking Distribution, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Traction Control System, Gear Change Block System, and Velocity Dynamic Control.

The Gibson NV200 Mobile Repair & Restoration Van, built by Nissan, is an extension of both Gibson Pro Audio and Gibson's fabled Repair & Restoration shop, based in Nashville, Tenn. This facility is where the best and brightest guitar builders go to ply their craft for one of the oldest and most-respected guitar companies.
As the Repair & Restoration shop fixes and customizes guitars owned by both the top professional musicians in the world and passionate enthusiasts, the Gibson NV200 Compact Cargo acts as a quick response support vehicle for professional and part-time musicians in need of timely repairs, as well as serving as an educational tool to the public representing the art of guitar building and repair, or luthiery.
NV200 Compact Cargo provides 122.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front seats and a 53-inch cargo height, which is comparable to many standard roof full-size vans. It also offers tall cargo door openings – including the standard 40/60-split rear doors – and a low load floor height of 19.5 inches. Payload capacity is rated at 1,500 pounds (S model).
This capability plays right into the heart of the vehicle - a pullout bench that features an array of luthier's tools such as calipers, scale rulers, fret files, fret pullers, different types of sandpaper, super glue, wood glue, tuning forks, a radius planer, various guitar parts (strings, tuning machines, frets, nuts, bridges, knobs, linseed oil, potentiometers, pickups), pliers, screw drivers and a soldering station. Luthiers can either extend this bench to the lip of the NV200 to work on instruments or guide in on its pair of casters to a separate location to perform repair or setup work on guitars.
Located directly behind the front seat is a custom rack that holds up to four guitars in various stages of repair and disrepair. The cockpit has been customized to evoke Gibson's classic designs with wood veneers in the dashboard that evoke classic Gibson materials such as mahogany and flamed maple and special leather-appointed seats.
Gibson Pro Audio is also represented throughout the vehicle with a custom audio system provided by Onkyo, Gibson Pro Audio consumer electronics' brand.
The vehicle is sheathed in a full body wrap that reads, "Gibson Repair & Restoration" on one side, and "Gibson Pro Audio" on the other. The wrap also contains images of classic Gibson stringed instruments and Gibson Pro Audio products such as speakers made by Cerwin-Vega! and KRK and Onkyo- and Stanton-branded headphones.
