Kia GT4 Stinger gets top-down teaser
Thu, 09 Jan 2014Kia has issued another teaser for its hotly anticipated GT4 Stinger Concept, which is set to debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show early next week. Our third teaser for the new car is from above, showing a squat, compact sports car form that makes us rather hopeful for the upcoming debut.
All signs point to the GT4 being a looker, with noticeable vents in the hood, a small back window and rather meaty C-pillars and rear haunches. When Kia calls this "sculpted" in the press release, we're certainly inclined to agree.
As we told you when revealing the GT4's last teaser, a 2.0-liter turbo will be responsible for motivating the rear-drive 2+2. If it held on to the concept's 315 horsepower, a production version of the Stinger Concept would certainly seem like it could have the potential to keep pace with the new EcoBoost-powered Ford Mustang, as well as the Genesis Coupe, from Kia's favorite corporate frenemy, Hyundai.
We'll have all the details on the GT4 Stinger Concept when it arrives in Detroit next week, if not before. Until then, check out our assembled gallery of teaser images up top, as well as the short press release from Kia below.
Sculpted. Menacing. Fast.
Kia's GT4 Stinger concept will be unveiled at the 2014 North American International Auto Show next week. Beneath the low wedge of the sculpted hood resides a tuned version of Kia's proven 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline direct injected (T-GDI) four-cylinder engine pumping out an impressive 315 horsepower. The hooves hit the ground via a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission that routes power to the rear wheels where 275/35R20 Pirelli P-Zero performance tires meet the asphalt. Staggered 235/35R20 Pirelli P-Zeros nestle beneath the front fenders. Custom 20-inch aluminum center-lock wheels feature carbon fiber inserts for strength and weight reduction. Tucked inside the massive wheels and bringing the GT4 to a halt are Brembo Gran Tourismo two-piece cross-drilled rotors with four-piston calipers. And underpinning the GT4 Stinger's sculpted "Ignition Yellow" body is a custom chassis with an independent double wishbone suspension.
For the rest of the salacious details, you'll have to wait for the real thing...
