Fans petitioning Sony Pictures to restore Ghostbusters ECTO-1
Sun, 13 Oct 2013Star cars can live on in the hearts of movie fans, but as we learned with the DeLorean time machine used in Back to the Future, even some of the more popular cars can end up being forgotten about by the studio. Such is the fate that has befallen the lead car from the Ghostbusters franchise – a 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance more affectionately known simply as ECTO-1.
As you can see in the image above, ECTO-1a (the updated car used in Ghostbusters 2) looks much different from the last time we saw it help rid New York City of ghosts, ghouls and evil spirits in 1989. Neglected and apparently left to the elements, the car is in rough shape likely requiring far more than the "$4,800" the car took to fix up in the original film (you know, for the suspension work and shocks, brakes, brake pads, lining, steering box, transmission, rear-end, new rings, mufflers and a little wiring).
Just like the recent restoration project for the BTTF DeLorean, though, a group called Ghostbusters Fans wants to get its hands on this car to restore it back to its original glory. To do so, it has set up a petition in hopes of convincing Sony Pictures Entertainment to allow it to purchase the car at scrap price and eventually plans on setting up a funding campaign on Kickstarter in the future. Scroll down for more information on the potential ECTO-1a restoration, and be sure to visit the site to sign the petition.
Ghostbusters Fans Presents
The Ecto-1A Restoration Project
Ghostbusters Fans aims to restore the iconic Ecto-1A from the Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE)
film Ghostbusters 2. The over the top and eccentric car from the second film in the billion dollar
Ghostbusters franchise has been sitting on the movie studios' backlot for the past several years
and is in dire need of a restoration job. Having sustained a magnitude of damage from its years as
a public display piece at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL the original vehicle sits neglected.
Ghostbusters Fans is expressing their intent to purchase the vehicle and restore her to better than
on screen appearance. The restoration project will be herald by the entire Ghostbusters Fans
community and publically funded through a future funding campaign on Kickstarter™, or a similar
service. Ghostbusters Fans is currently seeking support through a specially created website for individuals who would support the restoration project by signing their name to a petition to be
sent to Sony Pictures. The site is located at: http://ecto-1a.gbfans.com/
The website has already attracted tens of thousands of visitors since its creation on October 10,
2013, and chronicles the history of the Ecto-1A in recent years, along with previous restoration
attempts.
