Chevy to limit SS sport sedan dealer allocations
Fri, 06 Sep 2013With the first examples of the 2014 Chevrolet SS already in production in Australia, Edmunds says that dealer allocation of these high-performance sedans will be severely limited when the cars hit the US in December. Only around 900 of the sedans are coming in the first shipment, and there are roughly 3,000 Chevrolet dealers in the US, so the math doesn't quite work out. Thus, Edmunds says that General Motors is allocating the SS units to dealers based on their sales of the Corvette and Camaro.
This is similar to an action that GM planned for early units of the 2014 Corvette Stingray, but at least initially, the limited SS allocation might have more to do with production rather than supply and demand. This report seems to imply that General Motors is only planning to produce around 2,000 SS sedans per year, which is far less than the 10,000 to 15,000 units that we previously heard were being planned.
