Aston Martin hits the open water with Quintessence Yachts
Sat, May 2 2015 We know, we know: life is tough. You drive your Aston Martin Vanquish Volante from your mansion to the yacht club, and then what? Just get on board any old yacht? Of course not. You're going to need an Aston Martin speedboat, and fortunately that's just what we have here.Born of a partnership among the British automaker, Dutch boatbuilder Quintessence Yachts, and the naval architects at Mulder Design, is the upcoming AM37. The speedboat, as you might have guessed, measures 37 feet long – which is a little more than two Rapides parked end to end (or nearly four Cygnets). Though there's only three images, we can already see the vessel's design takes cues from Aston's luxury GTs, particularly in the driving console. It looks a lot sleeker, at any rate, than the Voyage design we saw a few years ago, and at least as cool as the 20-foot speedboat Ian Callum designed to go with the Jaguar XF Sportbrake.
Full technical details have yet to be released as well, but Quintessence says the vessel will feature a "hi-tech composite structure allied to luxury sports car-like handling, performance and comfort." It'll also incorporate voice control and touchscreen display for the navigation and multimedia system. The yacht will be offered in two versions: the AM37 with a top speed of around 50 knots (the maritime equivalent of 57 miles per hour) and the AM37 S that'll top out at 60 knots (nearly 70 mph). That's mighty fast on the open water, with no stop signs or traffic gridlock to slow you down. Just the waves on the open water.
We don't know what will motivate the vessel to such speeds, but we're hoping for a marine version of Aston's signature 6.0-liter V12. Maybe even two of 'em. It wouldn't be unheard of, after all: Lamborghini has made boat engines, and a Ferrari-powered hydroplane set a longstanding record in the 1950s. Far more than the usual branded wristwatch or luggage, we're looking forward to seeing this one (quite literally) launch.

Quintessence Yachts unveils first Aston Martin speedboat designs
Gaydon, 29 April 2015 – During an exclusive pre-launch event held at the Aston Martin
headquarters in the UK, Quintessence Yachts has released details of the first designs
now under construction as part of a unique partnership with the famous car brand.
The AM37 is a fast 37 foot leisure boat that synthesises tradition and innovation to
offer the ultimate 'driving on the water' experience.
A comprehensive digital exhibition of artworks and renderings was set up at the Design
Reception in Gaydon to showcase the in-depth cooperation between Aston Martin,
Quintessence Yachts and Mulder Design. Together the parties have created a genuine
expression of artisan skill while incorporating the very latest technological trends.
Quintessence Yachts gave Mulder Design a naval architect brief based upon the Dutch
company's ability to provide the framework of the design to Aston Martin and then ensure
that style changes made in the UK complemented the hull's performance. The design
process has involved a constant exchange of ideas for each single item from the dashboard
to the deck and the interiors, with the full commitment of the Aston Martin team providing
inputs and feedback on components and features.
The resulting boats are a pioneering delineation into the yachting environment of Aston
Martin style in its purest sense. The AM37 combines the highest degree of technology and
innovation in a genuinely unique manner that is sure to delight those who understand the
Aston Martin credo of 'power, beauty and soul'.
Based upon a concept of creating elegant fast boats with an exclusive design and a sporty
character, the 37 foot model will be presented in two version: the AM37 S, a true sportyacht
with a maximum speed of 60 knots, and the AM37, which is more of a gran turismo
leisure boat with an even higher degree of luxury and a maximum speed of around 50
knots.
A dedicated Quintessence Yachts facility is building the boats in the United Kingdom in
order to enhance the British DNA of the Aston Martin speedboats. The production process
deploys state-of-the-art vacuum infusion technology to ensure maximum quality control with
the hull being made in high-tech composite and structural parts in carbon fibre.
AM37 and the AM37 S are the first step in a strategic venture between Quintessence Yachts
and Aston Martin that will eventually result in a wide range of top quality speedboats.
