2015 Nissan Micra is your cheapest new car, Canada

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

Canadians looking for a brand-new car on the cheap, take note. This is the 2015 Nissan Micra, and it will arrive at dealerships this spring boasting a starting price of $9,998 Canadian dollars (circa $9,100 US), well under the $11,898 asked for a 2014 Versa Sedan.

Of course, that ultra-low asking price isn't for a fully loaded model. The Micra will arrive in the Great White North in three trims - S, SV and SR - with the buyer's choice of a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. A 109-horsepower, 1.6-liter four-cylinder is the sole engine choice. There will also be a number of accessory options that should allow some personalization for the small cars, with Nissan claiming that things like door handle finishers and mirror caps will be available in five different colors (plus chrome) for under $200.

"At Nissan, we understand the need in Canada for small, urban-friendly cars that are fun to drive and express their driver's personality. With Micra, we're delivering a proven global vehicle at a very attractive price – it's going to make a huge impact on the market," said Christian Meunier, the President of Nissan Canada.

Take a look below for the press blast from Nissan's Canadian outfit, and US readers, don't hold your breath for this one – there are no plans to bring the Micra to America.

The all-new 2015 Nissan Micra will feature a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of just $9,998 CDN when it goes on sale this spring, making it Canada's lowest MSRP

MISSISSAUGA, ON. (February 13, 2014) – After much anticipation, today Nissan announced a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of just $9,998 CDN for the all-new 2015 Nissan Micra, making it Canada's lowest MSRP. The price is just part of Nissan's tremendous value equation for Micra though, which is loaded with value features, built with Japanese quality and designed with European styling.

"As the only high-volume car to be offered in Canada and not the United States, Micra is here to give Canadian drivers an affordable, high-value entry point into the Nissan brand," said Christian Meunier, President, Nissan Canada, at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto. "At Nissan, we understand the need in Canada for small, urban-friendly cars that are fun to drive and express their driver's personality. With Micra, we're delivering a proven global vehicle at a very attractive price – it's going to make a huge impact on the market."

When it goes on sale this spring, Micra will demonstrate Nissan's commitment to bringing the right car to the right Canadian drivers at the right time. Sold in more than 160 countries around the world, Micra is a proven success and has now been tailored specifically, and tested extensively for the Canadian market.

Self-expression is also a key feature that will set Micra apart from the competition in Canada, with unique options that will allow the car to be "personalized" to the owner's individual tastes and favourite colour palate. Several trim items are available, including mirror covers, door handle finishers, a rear hatch finisher, wheel caps and interior trim finishers, in five distinct colours – red, white, black, orange and purple, as well as chrome. These accessories will be an 'a la carte' selection, allowing the customer to choose a little dash of colour where desired, with coordinating side stripes also available in each colours.

These accessory packages will start at less than $200 and there are also various lifestyle accessories available, such as bike, ski and even kayak carriers. Practical items like cargo organizers, winter mats and trunk protectors are also available on the 2015 Nissan Micra, making it one of Canada's most customizable cars as well as the country's greatest value.

"We want Micra to excite car buyers of all ages and we're doing everything we can to make sure we do just that," said Meunier. "Whether you just want a small, reliable, high-value car for urban life or a fun little car with great personality for your commute to school or work, Micra has a model and accessory for everyone."

Micra promises to provide Canadians with more fun, more attention to detail and more value than they've ever expected in a small car. With great visibility, impressive agility and excellent turning radius, Micra is designed for Canadian drivers and will offer a small and fuel efficient, yet spacious and fun choice.

Available in three models, the Micra S, SV and top-of-the-line SR will be available with either a 5-speed manual transmission, or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Each model is equipped with an advanced 1.6-litre DOHC 4-cylinder engine with dual fuel injection and Twin CVTC. With no plans for the United States, Micra will truly be a Canadian car and has been extensively tested and perfected for the Canadian driver with features like heated outside mirrors, rear heater ducts (to keep backseat toes warm), 60/40 split rear seats and either 15 or 16 inch wheels – sizes that are widely available as snow tires.
