Up for auction is my 1991 Bentley Mulsanne S. Interests have changed and I'm changing some of the vehicles in my collection and have decided to place the Bentley up for sale. The Mulsanne model was manufactured by Bentley Motors Limited from 1980 to 1992. It is based on the Rolls Royce Silver Spirit/Silver Spur models introduced at the same time and manufactured in the same factory in Crewe. The Mulsanne S series began in 1987 with just 970 produced in total until 1992. The Mulsanne S is a non-turbocharged model which has many of the features and details of the Turbo R (alloy wheels & interior) with a firmed up suspension "tuned for more spirited driving" (as listed on the original price sticker ($144,297.00), included in the sale). This Bentley is finished in black with a Silverstone Grey interior, piped same. The interior woodwork is in excellent condition, the drivers seat shows some sign of wear but there is no cracking or tears in the leather. I understand it can be redyed to freshen its appearance. It has traveled just over 80,000 miles since new, just a little over 6,000 miles a year. I am the second owner of this beautiful motorcar. The sale includes all original paperwork that I have, and of course, the original owners manual/books in their silk-lined leather case. As noted, there are some, what I consider minor, issues with the vehicle and I will describe them as best and accurately as I can. First off, there is some slight delamination/fogging of the rear windscreen (see photo). The gas gauge does not function properly, I suspect it is a faulty ground which I haven't traced. It reads "empty" when full and doesn't start to function until it is 1/2 to 1/4 tank. I have always used the odometer to determine when to fill up. The memory seat/mirrors ECM on occasion will not function properly. I replaced the internal batteries a few years ago so that is not the problem, the units are available after market either on a new or rebuilt basis. I replaced the spheres in the rear suspension approximately 1,000 miles ago and since that time, the "brake pressure" light blinks momentarily when the brakes are applied. There is no issue with either the braking or suspension, I believe another thorough bleeding of the hydraulic system will eliminate the problem. There is a slight leak in the power steering rack/pinion. I just top it up as necessary. The unit is available rebuilt in the after market or you could have it rebuilt locally using genuine Crewe parts. The lambswool overlays should be freshened with a cleaning and redying should you so desire and finally, reports on the vehicle history indicate an accident. I have spoken with the original owner/purchaser and he assured me that the vehicle was never in an accident and believes that this reported event may in fact be the paint work that was done under warranty by the Rolls Royce/Bentley dealer where he purchased the motorcar. I didn't ask him where the paint work was done on the vehicle but I honestly cannot find any evidence of this repair or any other repairs to the coachwork. I have placed the reserve price fairly to allow for the repair costs of these issues. I'm sure you'll be very happy with this fine motorcar if you are the high bidder. The motorcar has a clear NYS title "mileage exempt" (over 10 years titles do not show mileage in NYS).

Bentley considering diesel engine for new SUV
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Turns out, in case you didn't know, the rich are just like regular people. They too are concerned about the environment, even when tooling around town in their super-luxurious Bentleys. So the automaker is weighing the idea of offering a diesel engine in its SUV offering, which could help satisfy customers' demands for more fuel-efficient engines.
Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Schreiber told Autoblog in a roundtable interview at the Geneva Auto Show that the automaker is researching whether or not a diesel engine makes sense for the brand. Bentley, owned by the Volkswagen Group, could in theory use a diesel engine from anywhere in the Volkswagen Group family. We at Autoblog have hopes they'll revive the V10 TDI used in the VW Touareg until 2010, but ever-stricter emissions laws would likely make that problematic.
But rich people aren't so much like us that they'll be worried about petty things like pricing. Schreiber admitted the diesel engine could be a $15,000 option, which he said customers would probably find "acceptable." Given that the cheapest Bentley today starts at $177,000, typical customers probably won't be diddling around worrying about an extra 15 grand.
2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 Second Drive Review | The leathery lap of luxury
Mon, Dec 9 2019BIRMINGHAM, Mich. — I came home from Florida, unpacked, and was treated to a snowstorm the day after my vacation. As I sat in the office, watching the white stuff come down harder and harder, Autoblog Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore started asking questions. “Is the Bentley in the basement?” he asked, referring to the $280,000 Continental GT V8 that I was supposed to drive home that evening. Later, “What kind of tires are on the Bentley?” I wasnÂ’t too nervous yet. It was on all-seasons, and was equipped with all-wheel drive. After more hours of blowing snow, he said to me, “If you want to punt on driving the Bentley until the weatherÂ’s better, thatÂ’s fine.” Punt I did, taking the 2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium home that night instead. The next day, after the plows, salt trucks and sunshine had done their thing to the roads, I finally got to scratch the Bentley itch that had been nagging me since I had landed in Detroit. I grabbed the weighty key fob, Autoblog Associate Producer Alex Malburg grabbed a camera and mic, and we headed down to the basement together to film the video you see above. Opening the door to the 2020 Bentley Continental GT V8 greets you with a big white “B” illuminated on the ground from the puddle light, surrounded by a yellow circle. I don't recall seeing another multi-colored puddle light before, but IÂ’ll remember this one. We got in the Bentley, fired it up, and gingerly crept out of the basement garage. Before exiting, I made sure to give the car a few revs, but there wasnÂ’t much to hear from inside the cabin. Despite the lack of volume, the 4.0-liter V8 is potent. With 542 horsepower, itÂ’s just shy of the 552 horses of the original Conti GTÂ’s W12, and it out-torques it at 568 pound-feet. Helping to motivate it is a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers. As Alex and I took the Bentley for a cruise down Woodward Avenue, I got to test its straight-line acceleration at stoplight after stoplight. Despite the BentleyÂ’s 5,000-pound curb weight, itÂ’s brisk, but also smooth. ThereÂ’s no noticeable turbo lag as it motivates itself toward extralegal speeds. Bentley claims itÂ’ll do 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Bentley debating production of either Speed 6 or smaller SUV
Tue, Jun 30 2015A fifth model is coming to the Bentley range, and after the EXP10 Speed 6 concept dropped jaws and a whole lot more at this year's Geneva Motor Show, observers expected the luscious green coupe to get the go-ahead. Yet, since January, Bentley has publicly mulled a new SUV smaller than the coming Bentayga that would "to attract more women and younger buyers to the brand." Now, the firm's marketing director is in the midst of a global research to work up a business case for each model that will decide the matter. The growth of the SUV market and the success of more affordable models forces Bentley to consider the potential money stacks provided by an even more price-friendly entry. The SUV is helped by the fact that it could be built on the same MSB platform that would support a production version of the EXP10 Speed 6. It looks like this is another cage match between heart and incontrovertible business case, yet a nod to the SUV wouldn't necessarily kill the Speed 6, only delay it. The investment for a fifth model begins after the Bentayga goes on sale at the end of this year, with 2020 or 2021 suggested as the production date for whichever new model comes next. There's no reason the Speed 6 couldn't come after that, even though we - and a bunch of potential customers - know the model we'd choose to build right now. According to Autocar, it might take up to two years for a decision. And either model will be draining enough of the company's time, talent, and resources as to mitigate a super-high-performance Continental variant, as we reported earlier.
