Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 coming, but not before hotter CUV

Bentley appears closer than ever to giving the green light for production to the curvaceous EXP 10 Speed 6 concept, but expect to see a hotter, more stylish crossover before the coupe arrives in showrooms. During the Bentayga launch, company CEO Wolfgang Durheimer hinted that both models would be perfect additions to the luxury brand's lineup, according to Car and Driver. The EXP 10 Speed 6's shapely design received glowing reviews when Bentley unveiled it at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, and customers prodded the automaker to manufacture the coupe. "We want to build on this and make it a reality," Durheimer told Car and Driver about the positive buzz, but the boss said he couldn't put a production date on the two-seater yet. Durheimer has made positive statements about the EXP 10 Speed 6's production chances before, but it might be 2020 before the coupe goes on sale because the company's board still needs to approve the model. Rumors suggest the possibility of an electric version with 400 to 500 horsepower from tech similar to the Porsche Mission E concept and a more traditional variant with a 600-hp twin-turbo V8. In the nearer term, we could get the first look at Bentley's high-performance crossover as a concept at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March, according to Auto Express. The model allegedly shares the Bentayga's platform but features a revised body with an arching, coupe-like roofline. The company would also add more power to the twin-turbo W12 to match the exterior's more aggressive look. Related Video:

Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R named Road & Track Performance Car of the Year

With a 526-horsepower, 5.2-liter V8 that roars to 8,250 rpm, it's really hard to consider the 2016 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R an underdog in any fight. However, the Shelby held the lowest as-tested price and was only middle of the pack in terms of power in Road & Track's 2016 Performance Car of the Year challenge. The 'Stang's numbers clearly didn't tell the whole story about the potent coupe because Ford's muscle car grabbed the title in this year's test. A model needs to be new or significantly updated to be eligible for the honor, and R&T found an impressive slate of eight candidates this year. The challengers included the Bentley Continental GT3-R, Cadillac ATS-V Coupe, Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper ACR, Mercedes-AMG GT S, and Porsche Cayman GT4. The Ferrari 488 GTB was the most expensive of the bunch with an as-tested price of $347,942, which is five times more than the Shelby. Once the group was together, R&T hustled them over curving roads and on the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park. There was a lot to love about the Shelby, even in this impressive crew. Past winners include the Porsche 911 GT3 last year and the Corvette in 2013. 2016 Bentley Continental GT keeps it fresh for another dozen years [w/video]

The reveal of the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept is without a doubt the bigger news – maybe the most exciting thing the British automaker has shown in years – but it's not the only piece of new metal on display at the Bentley stand in Geneva this year. Alongside the sports car concept, Bentley is showcasing revised versions of just about its entire bread-and-butter lineup, including the Continental GT, Continental GTC and Flying Spur. The latter sedan may have only received some new trim inside and out (along with a subtly massaged engine), but the two-door models benefit from a raft of enhancements. Most notable is the side vent that now features a metallic B emblem, but the updated sheetmetal also includes a more pronounced character line along the flank, revised front-end styling, a reprofiled trunk lid and more. There are new wheels of course, and the more performance-oriented versions get a new rear diffuser. The inside hasn't been left alone either, and the W12 engine packs a bit more power and a cylinder deactivation system. Hardly groundbreaking stuff, but vital revisions, we're sure, to keep the Continental fresh after a dozen years on the market.
