Chris Harris finds out if the Bentley Continental GT3-R deserves the badge

Before getting behind the wheel, Chris Harris is very confused by the Bentley Continental GT3-R. While the British brand undoubtedly has a long history in motorsports, Harris questions whether the stripped-out coupe fits the company's luxurious image. He aims to find out in his latest, drift-heavy video. Weighing in at over 4,800 pounds, this Continental is no lightweight, but the muscle comes thanks to a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 making 572 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Power goes to all four wheels, but as Harris shows here, the system is still happy to let the big coupe wag its tail. He has especially nice things to say about the shorter differential that sacrifices outright top speed for better response at lower velocities. Still, the question remains whether it makes sense for a posh brand like Bentley to follow the Porsche mold with a racecar for the street. With the GT3-R limited to just 300 cars worldwide and 99 in the US for $337,000 each, a good way to find out is to take this ride with Harris.

Bentley recalls 27,640 Continental, Flying Spur models

Even the world's most luxurious automakers aren't immune to recalls. Bentley is proving this point with a campaign on 27,640 of its posh models worldwide for a loose battery cable connection, Reuters reports. The problem affects all examples of the Continental GT, GTC, and Flying Spur with build dates between February 2011 and June 2014, and there are 7,778 of them in the US, according to company spokesperson Erin Bronner to Autoblog. "On a limited number of cars, a bolted connection for a battery cable joint could be loose where it passes through the front bulkhead," Bentley said in a statement. According to Bronner, there were four incidents were this electrical joint overheated, but there have been no reports of any injuries. As a repair, dealers will install a new connection system, which will take around two hours. Scroll down below for the entire statement. Bentley Mulsanne convertible expected to be greenlit this year

That was quick - it was only was only three weeks ago that the Bentley Mulsanne Vision concept, a droptop take on the brand's flagship sedan, was sketched out for the Pebble Beach crowd. Now Autocar reports that a production version is expected to be approved later this year, with a launch something like two years away. And even though it hasn't been officially given the go-ahead, it has a price: "at least £275,000" ($436,232 U.S.). That price would make for a £50,000 premium ($79,313 U.S.) - at least - over the current UK price of the Mulsanne sedan.
Just as the Continental GTC differs from its coupe sibling, Autocar says the Mulsanne cabrio would be unique from the A-pillars back as compared to the sedan. Shortened by roughly six inches in both length and wheelbase, frameless doors and a lowered windshield will contribute additional rakishness, and note the rear fender treatment meant to evoke the fifties-era Bentley R Type in the upper right corner of the sketch above. At launch it is predicted that power will come from the twin-turbo 6.75-liter V8, but Autocar predicts that V12 power being developed for the production version of the EXP 9 F SUV will eventually find its way up front.
