2007 Bentley Continental Gtc Convertible 2-door 6.0l on 2040-cars
Houston, Texas, United States
Grand Touring has a new definition. Now available as a coupe, a sedan, or a convertible, the 2007 Bentley Continental family is outstanding among Bentleys, today's luxury vehicles, and even today's supercars.A W12 engine employs twin turbos to produce 552 horsepower and 479 ft-lbs of torque at a mere 1,600 rpm. This allows the coupe to rocket to 60 mph in only 4.7 seconds on its way to a 198-mph maximum speed. The GT convertible and the Flying Spur sedan are only slightly slower due to heavier curb weights. The six-speed automatic transmission can be partially controlled with paddle shifters, and it transmits this massive amount of energy to the pavement through all four 275/40R19 inch tires.Inside the Continental GT lineup you'll still find all the items that British gentlemen, Lotto winners, and Bentley aficionados have come to expect. The seats are wrapped in sumptuous leather. Carefully selected pieces of wood are still hand-crafted, but are now sliced into veneer by lasers. A Breitling analog clock sits prominently atop the dash centre, flanked by chrome air vents. And yes, the old "organ stops" still open and close these vents just as in days of yore.Everything about the interior speaks of class, comfort, and convenience. The instruments include a 210-mph speedometer, and the center stack has a modern GPS screen carefully integrated into its wood housing. The shift lever alone could be displayed as a work of art; the blending of aluminum, leather, and filigree is exquisite. The Continental GT accelerates in a way we have never experienced in any other vehicle. Previous turbo-charged Bentley's have also had massive amounts of torque, capable of launching these heavy motorcars right smartly. But the Continental GT's all-wheel drive, W12 engine configuration, enormous rubber and cozy dimensions combine to make every full-throttle departure an event that grabs your attention and refuses to let go. You can choose from four different ride settings, all of which produce a delightful balance between cosseting and setting you up for enjoying lateral g-forces in a breathtaking fashion.By adding 19.8 inches to the overall length of the coupe, Bentley has produced a four-door sedan of epic proportions. The Flying Spur's side profile may not be as distinct as its two-door sibling, but the Spur makes up for it by offering unparalleled interior appointments. Everything about the Flying Spur lends itself to superlatives. The extraordinarily comfortable front seats have more buttons and adjustments then you might think possible. The convertible edition of the highly-popular Bentley Continental GT looks stunning with the electric top up and drop-dead gorgeous with it lowered. A band of stainless steel frames the convertible's cockpit and sets off the luxurious materials within. The roof is constructed from three layers designed to offer the quietest ride of any convertible on the market. The single button operation takes only 25 seconds, and the top can be operated at speeds up to 20 mph.Pictures do not do any of the Continental models justice. In person, the proportions take on a life of their own, and help to make this car a work of art. The rear fender line disappears behind the massive door with delicacy.

Watch 14 hot rides take over concept car lawn at Pebble Beach
Sun, Aug 16 2015The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is an annual celebration of the beautiful, old cars that grace Monterey Car Week. But Monterey – and Pebble – features lots of newer metal, too, and that includes the concept lawn at Pebble Beach. Now, "concept lawn" isn't a totally accurate name anymore, and you'll see why in the list below. This year especially, plenty of production cars can be found in the area once reserved for the conceptual. Still, we're happy to see them. Here's what's featured this year: Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Audi R8 BAC Mono Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R Buick Avenir Galpin-Fisker Rocket Speedster Hyundai HCD-16 Vision G Coupe Icona Volcano Infiniti Q60 Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 Maserati Ghibli McLaren 570S Rolls-Royce Wraith By our count, that's seven concepts out of fourteen cars. But it still makes for one hot group of metal. Check 'em out in the gallery above. 2021 Bentley Flying Spur V8 returns with less weight, equipment than W12
Wed, Oct 14 2020Following up on the launch of the W12 version, the 2021 Bentley Flying Spur is once again getting an "entry-level" variant with a V8. It's not as powerful as the W12, and a couple fancy features aren't included. But it's lighter, more fuel efficient, and we expect it will be cheaper. Like past V8 Spurs, this new model has a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. It's more powerful than its predecessors, though, making 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. The previous-generation V8 S made 521 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. The W12's 626 horsepower still towers over the V8, but the V8 boasts a weight savings of 220 pounds. Combined with cylinder deactivation, Bentley claims a 16% improvement in fuel economy, though doesn't give specific numbers. Applying that increase to the W12's combined fuel economy number, we'd expect around 17 mpg for the V8 versus 15 for the W12. There's one other key mechanical change to the Flying Spur V8, and that's the lack of standard electronic adjustable anti-roll bars and four-wheel steering. Both features are part of an option package now, whereas they're included on the W12. The adjustable anti-roll bars are automatically controlled to optimize ride quality while reducing body roll, and the steering allows the Flying Spur to more easily negotiate tight corners and spaces. Otherwise, the V8 Flying Spur is nearly identical to the W12 version, save for the standard 20-inch wheels and quad exhaust tips. It's available in either four- or five-seat configurations. First Edition and Blackline trims are available that include extra options and unique visual tweaks. And among some of the more opulent upgrades are the rear-seat refrigerator, illuminated Flying B hood ornament and rotating center stack display. Pricing for the Flying Spur V8 starts at $200,725 with destination, a healthy discount to the W12's nearly $215,000 price tag. It's also more affordable than the the Continental GT V8's price of around $204,000. The V8 Flying Spur will be available early next year. Related Video:
The Volkswagen Group switches official language to English
Wed, Dec 14 2016The Volkswagen Group can't be fairly thought of as entirely German anymore, so the news that the company is switching its official language to English to help attract managers and executives is a rational, if surprising, decision. While many VW Group companies are still staidly German in character and culture, consider the other companies that it controls: Bentley (British), Bugatti (French), Ducati and Lamborghini (Italian), Skoda (Czech), Scania trucks (Swedish), and SEAT (Spanish). Not to mention the large Volkswagen Group of America operation, which constructs cars in Chattanooga, TN. Volkswagen's explicit motivation is to improve management recruitment – making sure the company isn't losing out on candidates for important positions because they can't speak German – and that's inherently sensible in a globalized economy. Particularly considering, like it or lump it, that English is the lingua franca of said global economy. It also should make it inherently easier to communicate between its world-wide subsidiaries and coordinate operations. It's hard to say for sure if this will have any impact on the consumer, although it's easy to see the benefits if, say, VW Group hires some American product planners or engineers and they push for features and designs that more closely suit American needs. After all, the US is a hugely important market for any manufacturer, and so the switch to English almost certainly has something to do with the outsized influence of the US in the global economy. And there doesn't seem to be a downside from a purely rational perspective, although it could mean that the Group's corporate culture becomes less German. Whether that's a good or a bad thing depends on your perspective.
