Bentley Bentayga by Mulliner is a one-off special edition with ties to horse racing
Thu, Mar 1 2018Not long ago, we featured the Bentley Bentayga Field Sports by Mulliner, Bentley's even more lavish companion that often adds a special touch to production Bentleys; earlier on, there was even a version aimed at falconers. Here's another one-off Bentayga special edition that looks just as ostentatious, simply called the Bentayga by Mulliner. Bentley says this Mulliner version has been inspired by horse racing, and it's been created to commemorate Bentley's partnership with racetrack operator The Jockey Club at the Cheltenham Festival. It has to be said, the Bentayga looks far better by itself than towing a horse box on the highway. The paintwork is a variation on British Racing Green, on this occasion called Spruce, and the cabin has been finished with a combination of saddle-colored leather on the seats and special tweed on the doors. The veneer is burr walnut, treated to resemble woodwork at The Jockey Club's private rooms, and branded Mulliner. As well as Cheltenham Racecourse, The Jockey Club operates 14 other horse racing venues in the UK, and it was founded all the way back in 1750. The 21" wheels on the Bentayga by Mulliner are the same, partially black ones that were fitted on the Field Sports. Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept is a British Racing Green dream [w/video]
Tue, Mar 3 2015"Oh, hey there Bentley EXP10 Speed 6. You're damn handsome." That, of course, was our reaction to seeing Crewe's latest concept under the lights of Geneva's Palexpo convention center after yesterday's debut. Finished in a gorgeous, heavily metallic shade of British Racing Green, the EXP 10 Speed 6 is, as we said yesterday, a truly different take on what we've come to expect from Bentley. It's low, featuring a classic long-hood, short-deck design that expands on the British luxury marque's traditional styling features. The egg-crate grille and quad headlights give the Speed 6 a face that is at the same time new and familiar, while the wide rear haunches bleed over the rear wheels and add to the car's svelte silhouette. The cabin, meanwhile, is absolutely striking. Open the swan-wing doors and aside from the tan quilted Poltrona Frau leather on the seats and doors, the aluminum accents on the steering wheel and shifter are the big aesthetic takeaways. The digital dash and tablet-like center stack are modern takes that Bentley desperately needs to implement in its production models, while the cockpit-like layout places a greater focus on the driver than even the more enthusiastic Continental GT. 2014 Bentley Flying Spur makes its Swiss debut
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Ever since the two-door Bentley Continental GT debuted in 2010, we've wondered how the coupe's new design and technology would carry over to the four-door Flying Spur model. We received official details and images a couple of weeks ago, but we've now had the chance to see the Spur in person here on the eve of the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
It's a handsome sedan, this 2014 Flying Spur (which has officially ditched the Continental nomenclature, for what it's worth). And even more handsome in the metal. The stock photos don't do this big beast justice - especially in the rear three-quarter and profile views, where aspects of the car (namely its newly horizontal-shaped taillamps) can look a bit awkward.
More impressively, Bentley says that the new Flying Spur will be the "fastest, most powerful four-door" it has ever produced. Makes sense to us, especially considering the fact that the sedan borrows its twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 powertrain from the Continental GT Speed coupe. This twelve-pot mill is good for 616 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, able to propel the 5,451-pound, all-wheel-drive sedan to 60 miles per hour in 4.3 seconds. That's quick.
