2011 Audi S4 Prestige package

You've made it to this ad so chances are you already know these cars are special. In case you don’t, here’s a bit of info to whet your appetite.

Completely stock off the show room floor, these cars are wonderful. Add in a few carefully picked modifications like I have done here and you've turned a great car into something truly amazing. Anyone that knows anything about these cars and their potential will know that this car is going to give you loads of trouble free, exhilarating fun. If you've never owned a modern day Audi Sports Sedan, you owe it to yourself to look at this car. Trust me; just seeing people crane their necks to look at this car is worth the price of admission. It's almost as though you're driving an exotic.

If you're looking for one of the cleanest S4's around, this is the one you want!!! This car is beautiful inside and out and runs perfectly. Well over 400HP with the addition of the APR software package. APR has been providing safe, reliable software for Audi's for years. This example is no exception and totally transforms the vehicle. The APR software package consists of (2) files. One for California 91 Octane and another for 100 Octane Race Fuel. The files are very easily switchable from inside the cockpit via the cars cruise control stock. No flashing device needed. Simply put in the proper fuel, select the file you want and off you go.

The car sits on H&R OEM Sport Springs which gives it a nice hunkered down look without being overly aggressive. The addition of the Avant Garde M310 wheels in 19X9.5, finishes off the look. With the springs and wheels, the handling of this car is significantly improved over the factory settings without taking away from its comfortable ride. There is absolutely no rubbing at any corner with this set up even when the car is fully loaded with people and any gear you may be hauling around.

The car rides on one of Michelins best performing street tires and all 4 have plenty of tread on them.

The mushy factory rear differential mount has been replaced with an Apikol version. This modification takes away some of the slop present in the factory set up and allows for cleaner smoother shifting.

The factory grill has been replaced on this car with an RS4 version. Just this modification alone, gives the car a much more aggressive look and sets it apart from run of the mill S4’s.

Do you like your cars to sound like they mean business? Well this car checks that box nicely. With the addition of a Magnaflow x-pipe in place of the rear factory resonator, coupled with a pair of Magnaflow Mufflers, this car sounds amazing. Blip the throttle with a down shift on the paddle shifter and you're treated to one of the best exhaust notes you'll ever hear. It's so fun to do, that I mostly drive the car in manual mode. As good as it sounds however, it's not obnoxious. At idle and just cruising around, you would think the car was completely stock.

The factory intake has been upgraded with the addition of a 034 Motorsport Intake tube along with a K&N filter that resides in the factory air box. This combination allows for better breathing and still keeps supercharger whine at acceptable levels.

The windows have been tinted - 5% on the back 3 and 35% on the front 2.

The car is hard wired for either a Beltronics or Escort radar detector as pictured. The radar detector is not included in the sale however.

The car has been re-codded to provide features that were turned off for this vehicle from the factory. Examples include, Day Time LED's staying on when the turn signals are on, auto open and close of the windows and sunroof with the use of the car key fob. None of these changes affect the way the car drives and will not void the warranty. They simple add extra convenience options that were not turned on when the car left the factory.

The car is a completely key-less entry vehicle. Just throw the key fob in your pocket and you can lock, un-lock the car as well as start and turn off the motor without ever taking the key out of your pocket.

The car comes with a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) warranty which fully covers the vehicle. It is good for 2 years or 50K miles.

Registration has just been paid and is good through August 2015

Again, this is one of the best 4 door sedans on the market today. At this price, there isn't a lot that will touch it in terms of sheer driving pleasure, comfort, luxury and acceleration. You simply have to see and drive this car to fully appreciate it.

Deposit of $500 due within 48 hours of close. Please make sure your financing is in place ahead of time. This is a private sale and will be treated as such. At completion, buyer is responsible for pay off to Audi Financial Services and any small remainder in the sale price will go to me. I am not interested in making money on this deal. The indicated sale price is close to payoff so there is little room for negotiation.

I can provide the contact information for Audi Financial Services if needed.

All shipping arrangements and costs are the responsibility of the buyer.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

Audi shows off the Prologue Avant Concept as a plug-in hybrid

Wed, Feb 25 2015

The Audi Prologue Avant Concept goes in a different direction than the Prologue coupe, in more ways than just its five-door wagon body. The coupe was first shown at the LA Auto Show with a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8, then went redux at CES as a hybrid with a total of 677 horsepower and 701 pound-feet of torque. The only-slightly-larger Prologue Avant sticks with the hybrid but gets the system from the Q7 E-Tron quattro, meaning a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V6 TDI with 353 hp and a 100-kW electric motor strapped to the eight-speed transmission. Total output is 455 hp and 553 lb-ft, pure electric range is 33 miles, and 0-62 miles per hour comes in 5.1 seconds. The forward section of cabin with its screen-based Tie Fighter displays and controls comes over from the coupe, as well as the four individual seats, but the Avant lavishes attention on rear passengers in ways not possible in the two-door. They also get a screen on the pass-through center console for convenience controls, and detachable OLED screens - a la the detachable tablets in the Q7 - with which they can send information to the front occupants. As a traditional Audi avant is to a coupe relative, the Prologue Avant is all about bringing the family along on the digital highway. We'll see it at the Geneva Motor Show next week, and Audi is again talking up how the design language will migrate to production cars. It also makes noises in the press release below about near-production many of the technologies are in the concept, so it looks like there could be all sorts of Easter Eggs on the way from the Ingolstadt brand. Audi testing all-new, third-gen TT prototype

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

It's no big surprise that Audi is working on a new TT. It's been rumored for a while now, and the current model has been on the market since 2006, making it seven years old. But after seeing only some test mules wearing the existing model's sheetmetal, this is the first glimpse we've gotten at what Audi has in store for it's third-gen TT.
Not that we can see all that much with all the camouflage, mind you, but that's still more than we've seen until now. Spied on public roads being benchmarked against the Mercedes-Benz SLK and BMW Z4, the upcoming new TT is still unmistakably a TT, but looks poised to adopt more contemporary styling in keeping with Audi's latest design language, including a larger grille aperture and more squared-off headlights.
The whole thing looks a bit more like a mini-R8, which would make sense if Audi has called off plans for an R4 sports car to slot into the lineup as well. Last we heard, the new TT would arrive late in 2014, when you can bet we'll read all about slightly more powerful but significantly more frugal engines and a raft of new technologies.
