(actual model year 1998 but the wagon version was carried over from 1997 with C4 platform) compatible with most parts from 1992-1997 A4 or A6. Audi A6 avant (wagon) quattro AWD (all-wheel drive) with 2.8L V6 AFC engine, single-overhead cam 12-valve has plenty of power and torque (when running), top of the line for it's day, white/tan leather interior, dark midnight blue exterior, power everything, sunroof works, heated seats, 3rd row seats in back fold down flat.
Treated body from factory is very resistant to rust and will stay solid for many years.

Was running great, has about 125,000 miles, clean inside and out. It was our daily driver until the engine blew a head gasket.
It's a beautiful luxury car that only needs piston rings since I already had the heads done with new gaskets but now compression is still low in 3 cylinders which increases when cylinders are lubed which indicates rings. Rings are cheap and easy but means the engine must be pulled out.
It still turns over and cranks but has not run due to poor compression.

Recent work:
New battery,
New head gaskets, intake and valley pan gasket,
New timing belt and serpentine accessory belt service, including new idler & tensioner rollers,
New water pump and thermostat, had all new G12 pink coolant (must be correct for these engines),
New temperature sensor,
New oil change and filter with full synthetic Pentosin 5w-40,
New wiper blades,
New exhaust flange bolts & proper springs joining catalytic pipe to rear,
New rear brakes both sides left and right, totally new calipers with hydraulic slave cylinders, brake pads still good,
New parking brake cable,
New transmission filter kit (parts only) included.

Wheels shown are not included (winter tires) available separately, comes with stock 15" Audi wheels with decent tires.
Even as-is the car has value for all the good parts.
KBB blue book value for a good A6 is about $5,000 so with a few cheap parts and some labor, this could be worth fixing.
Thank you.

    2014 Audi SQ5 Road Test

    Thu, Jul 24 2014

It may be obvious at this point, but here in the United States, European manufacturers routinely give us the short end of the stick. Now, I'm not talking about models or brands that don't come here, like the Mercedes-Benz A-Class or the entire Renault line. No, instead, I'm referring to cars that are sold right here in the Land of the Free in one bodystyle, while Europe enjoys the same vehicle with a wider variety of configurations. A prime example of this is the Audi S4/S5 line. In America, we can have the supercharged twins in two-door coupe, four-door sedan, and cabriolet body styles. Meanwhile, our Euroland cousins get the same trio of bodystyles, as well as the A5/S5 Sportback, a characterful 'four-door coupe,' and a versatile hauler, the S4 Avant. At first glance, Audi of America lacks a vehicle that can compete with the latter's blend of performance, versatility and subdued looks. So, what's an American with around $60,000 and an obsession with quick, conservative haulers to do? Well, he can buy an SQ5. (Though it bears mentioning, our US-spec SQ5 is vastly different than what's available to our European friends.) The SQ5 has a huge number of things going for it that make it a viable alternative to a proper hot wagon, and foremost among them are its looks – this is a sleeper. Audi has thankfully decided not to molest the clean looks of the standard Q5 when penning the sportier model. The SQ5 gains a unique set of wheels: 20-inchers are standard, but our tester was fitted with a set of 21-inch rollers. Visually, neither make a huge departure from the standard Q5 though. Other standard features of Audi's S models are also found on the SQ5, including a set of quad exhausts, silver mirror caps and mildly different front grille and foglight surrounds. If anything, the Q5 TDI diesel I tested late last year looks sportier than today's tester. Audi has decided not to molest the clean looks of the standard Q5 when penning the sportier model. It's a similar story of minor but purposeful changes in the cabin. Audi has ditched the Q5's standard steering wheel and slotted in the excellent, flat-bottomed unit found in other S models, which in this case is flanked by a set of high-quality "alu-optic" paddles. Upgraded leather seats complement the new wheel, while my SQ5 offered the Carbon Atlas interior trim (a $500 option).

    2014 Audi S1 Quattro [w/video]

    Fri, 21 Mar 2014

Audi may only now be fully committing to the US compact car market with a range of A3 models, but it's got far more small car expertise than most Americans realize, and its offerings get even tinier, too. Back in 2010, Audi leapt into the subcompact premium fray - in all markets but the United States, Canada and China - with its A1. The A1 family has sold all right, but not quite as well as was expected, likely due to its price when optioned up. (It also doesn't help that the Volkswagen Polo is a great car on the same architecture and costs much less.)
But Audi seems compelled to make high-buck S trims of everything nowadays, so right on schedule, I've scored seat time in its new S1 Quattro. Under its gumdrop-colored hood is the very popular 2.0-liter TFSI motor. In this trim, it's good for 228 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque between 1,600 and 3,000 rpm. That's quite a lot of gumption for this little blaster - enough power for 0-60 in just 5.7 seconds.
My drive was originally supposed happen on a sub-zero frozen lake in Sweden, only Audi forgot to call Mother Nature and ask her to hold off on springtime. It would have turned into a slush drive and then a submarine test had I been told to stick to the original plan, so it was dusty, soggy and gravel-y pavement instead, which turned out to be a better real-world test anyhow. Plus, the car got even cuter when it was filthy.

Audi A3-based people mover in the works

    Sat, 01 Jun 2013

We have yet another announcement of yet another new Audi, including yet another obligatory quote from Audi research and development chief Wolfgang Dürheimer that there's room for it in the Audi range. On the sidelines of reports about the diesel-hybrid sports car, derived from the R18 endurance racer, there have been remarks about a possible MPV. Now Auto Express reports that said MPV "is on the way" and will be based on the A3 Sportback.
Previous speculation has posited either a six- or seven-seat people carrier; if the AE report is to be believed then five seats is the number that's been settled on. Planned to rest on a stretched version of the A3 platform, its wheelbase would be nearly eight inches longer than that of the A3 Sportback and it would compete against the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and the production version of the BMW Concept Active Tourer.
Audi is not going to dally about it, either, with a concept said to be ready for debut next year. Should it come, it would mean the A3 range comes pretty close to hitting for the cycle.
