IIHS bestows 2015 Audi A3 with Top Safety Pick+ [w/video]

There's some good news for Audi today, as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named the all-new A3 one of its Top Safety Pick+, the institute's highest award for safety.
While there are no shortage of cars that can handle the standard IIHS trial, the tough small overlap test needed to earn TSP+ has flummoxed more than a few vehicles from prestigious, safety minded manufacturers. In the A3's case, though, it handled the small-overlap tests well.
According to the IIHS, there wasn't much intrusion into the cabin from the impact, which simulates a 40-mile-per-hour impact on 25 percent of a car's front end. The crash test dummy was held in place, with just a low risk of injuries. You can view the crash test video below, as well as read a brief press release from the IIHS.

Detroit Auto Show prankster 'damages' hundreds of thousands of dollars of cars

Obtaining credentials for an auto show is generally a pretty selective process, especially at one of the world's premier shows, like Geneva, Los Angeles or Detroit. That didn't stop online prankster Dennis Roady from getting credentialed for the 2015 North American International Auto Show on behalf of a Russian YouTube channel to cover the show. While he wasn't brought on strictly to cause mischief, Roady couldn't help but have some fun at the expense of the product specialists during the serious business of covering the show. He took to an app called "Dude, Your Car," which allows Apple iPhone users to take snaps of vehicles and then edit them to add some serious, but fake, dents and scratches. Naturally, the pranking session was caught on video, where you can enjoy the sight of poor product specialists freaking out over damage to vehicles ranging from the Mercedes-Maybach S600 to the Audi R8 and a lovely Dodge Challenger. New Audi TT likely headed for Geneva reveal

Between the Consumer Electronics Show and the Detroit Auto Show, Audi is creating plenty of buzz lately for its upcoming third-generation TT. Fortunately, we won't have to wait too much longer to see the next Audi TT, though, as Autocar reports that the coupe will make its big debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
In speaking with Audi's technical chief Ulrich Hackenberg, the article states that the 2015 TT will first be revealed in March before going on sale later in the year. Previewed by the Allroad Shooting Brake Concept (shown above), it isn't that hard envisioning what the new TT could look like: ditch the shooting brake roofline, tall ride height and obvious conceptual design cues. Of course, if this styling is more your thing than the two-seater TT, Hackenberg left open the possibility of a TT Allroad or even a TT-based crossover.
