Audi R18 E-tron gets new livery, mixes it up in city traffic [w/video]
Wed, 26 Mar 2014The 24 Hours of Le Mans is still months away, but Audi Sport apparently can't wait to get started. It has just debuted the new livery for its 2014 R18 E-tron Quattro with a public drive through the streets of the town of Le Mans, while simultaneously announcing that it has a new, larger engine.
Factory driver Tom Kristensen piloted the prototype about six miles from the cathedral in the city center to the famous race track and completed a lap of a shortened version of the course. The car wears a new color scheme, which is similar to what it has raced with in the past, employing a combination of white, silver and red, plus a touch of black. Portions of the car are also reflective to show up better at night. The last time we saw the R18, it was displayed in a black and red livery. The team has also revealed that the 2014 will be powered by a new 4.0-liter diesel V6, an increase of about 300 cubic-centimeters from last season.
Audi Sport said that the stunt was inspired by the classic days of the race when drivers used to arrive to the city in the same cars they were going to race. Even back then, it's doubtful they arrived several months early, though. The 2014 R18 will make its competition debut on April 20 at the Six Hours of Silverstone. Audi Q7 to be first diesel plug-in from VW group
Sun, Dec 7 2014Lending credence to prior reports, the next Audi Q7 will be available with a diesel-powered, plug-in-hybrid powertrain, Automotive News claims, after speaking to a source in the Volkswagen Group. Both the gas and diesel-powered Q7 will debut in 2015, with the diesel PHV to arrive after that. Unlike Europe's other plug-in diesel, the Volvo V60, Audi's Q7 will be sold on both sides of the Atlantic, the source told AN. You can see a few spy photos of the Q7 PHV above. Audi research and development boss Ulrich Hackenberg previously confirmed that diesel plug-ins would be arriving earlier this year, although it wasn't clear which models the ultra-efficient powertrains would be offered on, or which of those would be offered here in the US. Time to play the waiting game...
2016 Audi RS7 Performance is an LA beauty in blue
Fri, Nov 20 2015The whole point of the new 2016 Audi RS7 Performance is directly in its name, and the Four Rings now claims 605 horsepower from its 4.0-liter twin turbo V8. For those keeping track of big-brother bragging rights, Audi claims 560 hp from the standard RS7. Plus, the engine's torque can jump from 516 pound-feet to 553 lb-ft during the temporary overboost function. An eight-speed automatic gearbox still sends power to the front and rear through the Quattro all-wheel drive system. The results of all these upgrades are a sprint to 60 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph. The RS7 Performance is about more than just power; Audi also fits carbon ceramic brakes and an RS Sport Suspension with Dynamic Ride Control. The exterior also sees some minor tweaks that include a restyled rear diffuser, new 21-inch wheels, black tailpipes, and a gloss black grille. RS sport seats come standard inside.
