My family is growing, and as much as I love this car, it'll be too small soon!

This is my 2008 Audi A3 2.0T, FWD, 6 speed manual, white w/black interior. The vehicle has been tastefully modified with H&R shocks and springs, giving it a moderate drop, but the ride is arguably as good or better than with the OEM setup. It has a brand new set of 17" Michelin Pilot Super Sports, and 5mm spacers at each corner, and handles incredibly. The steering is direct and responsive. It handles as good as my MINI Cooper did on H&R suspension, but rides MUCH smoother.

Mechanically, it needs nothing. Clutch is good, brakes are good, engine is smooth, no leaks under the vehicle. No weird noises or rattles. Runs perfectly.

According to the previous owner, the car has an APR software tune, which really picks up the engine's performance, without sacrificing fuel economy. It accelerates smoothly, with lots of low end torque, no torque steer, and no turbo lag.

The front grill has been exchanges for the gloss/matte S-line grille - I also have matte grille and trunk ring emblems, but did not install them. They come with the vehicle. The rear hatch has been debadged except the rings. There is a small 1" mark on the right rear corner of the bumper, and the lower part of the front bumper is scraped a bit from low inclines. The panoramic dual moonroof really opens the car up - the glass opens smoothly, the screens work well. The car has bixenon OEM lighting, and yellow fog lights. Comes with two sets of OEM floor mats - heavy duty rubber and carpet.

There is an iPod integration installed - I have it set up as just an auxiliary input (no charging or changer controls), as use it with my iPhone 5. If you have an iPod or iPhone 4S, it also has full charging and controls that integrate into the radio. Change tracks using the steering wheel!

The car has 85k miles, has gotten Mobil 1 synthetic 0w40 religiously, and needs nothing. Astute bidders may notice a crack in the windshield - there will be a new windshield in the vehicle before auction end.

Are supercars becoming less special?

Thu, Sep 3 2015

There's little doubt that we are currently enjoying the golden age of automotive performance. Dozens of different models on sale today make over 500 horsepower, and seven boast output in excess of 700 hp. Not long ago, that kind of capability was exclusive to supercars – vehicles whose rarity, performance focus, and requisite expense made them aspirational objects of desire to us mortals. But more than that, supercars have historically offered a unique driving experience, one which was bespoke to a particular model and could not be replicated elsewhere. But in recent years, even the low-volume players have been forced to find the efficiencies and economies of scale that formerly hadn't been a concern for them, and in turn the concept of the supercar as a unique entity unto itself is fading fast. The blame doesn't fall on one particular manufacturer nor a specific production technique. Instead, it's a confluence of different factors that are chipping away at the distinction of these vehicles. It's not all bad news – Lamborghini's platform sharing with Audi for the Gallardo and the R8 yielded a raging bull that was more reliable and easier to live with on a day-to-day basis, and as a result it went on to become the best-selling Lambo in the company's history. But it also came at the cost of some of the Italian's exclusivity when eerily familiar sights and sounds suddenly became available wearing an Audi badge. Even low-volume players have been forced to find economies of scale. Much of this comes out of necessity, of course. Aston Martin's recent deal with Mercedes-AMG points toward German hardware going under the hood and into the cabin of the upcoming DB11, and it's safe to assume that this was not a decision made lightly by the Brits, as the brand has built a reputation for the bespoke craftsmanship of its vehicles. There's little doubt that the DB11 will be a fine automobile, but the move does jeopardize some of the characteristic "specialness" that Astons are known for. Yet the world is certainly better off with new Aston Martins spliced with DNA from Mercedes-AMG rather than no new Astons at all, and the costs of developing cutting-edge drivetrains and user interfaces is a burden that's becoming increasingly difficult for smaller manufacturers to bear. Even Ferrari is poised to make some dramatic changes in the way it designs cars.

VW Group opens new plant in China

Thu, 26 Sep 2013

As the top market for the Volkswagen Group, China will be getting plenty of attention in coming years when it comes to vehicle production starting with an all-new plant in Foshan. The new plant celebrated the production of its first car this week - a seventh-gen Volkswagen Golf - but the Audi A3 will also join the line by the end of this year.
With its Foshan plant, Volkswagen is adding 6,500 workers in China as well as 300,000 units of production capacity - a figure that will eventually double. In addition to this growth, by 2018, VW is also planning to boost its workforce from 75,000 to 100,000 in China, an increase that will help rocket production capacity from the current 2.6 million annual units to more than 4 million.

A8 Audi Exclusive Concept shows off brand's interior chops

Sat, 16 Nov 2013

It's an envious position to be in, not wanting a normal Audi A8 but not wanting to make the statement that comes with a Bentley or a Rolls-Royce. What's an oligarch to do? Well, if you have the funds, consider the A8 Audi Exclusive Concept (yes, that's the actual name), a modified A8L W12 that's limited to just 50 units and features a significantly upgraded interior. Think of it as a followup to the A8 Exclusive Concept, shown at Frankfurt in 2011.
Aniline leather from Italian furniture manufacturer Poltrona Frau is fitted over the seats, while diamond stiching accentuates the Agatha Cognac color. Granite Gray piping and stitching on the seats provides some contrast - not just with the leather but the natural, olive ash inlays on the dash. Granite Gray Nappa leather lines the instrument panel and steering wheel while a white Alcantara headliner sets off the whole package. Not that it's a shock, but this looks like a really nice place to spend some time.
It's unclear how much the exclusive concept treatment adds on to the already lofty $135,900 starting price of a US-spec A8L W12, or if the special interior treatment will even be available in the North America. Production is set to kick off next March. Scroll down for the full statement from Audi.
